RGG/Yakuza Producer - Yakuza Games Not On Switch Due To Nintendo's Wholesom & Family Friendly Image

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
What do you guys think about this ? Do you think it makes a difference ?

"Do we want to put a title like this where we're going around and picking a fight with the world and doing all this Yakuza stuff, on a Switch," Yokoyama explained. According to the producer, the family-friendly image of the Switch in its home ground of Japan clashes with the "underground feeling" that Yakuza games project.
"We still kind of think of ourselves as people of the night world, right? We don't want to be like walking around the day with everybody else," Yokoyama said. "Like for us, it's kind of showing this kind of underground feeling. I think the underground kind of feeling is what we want to do."

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
they do know that games like Doom are on Switch right?
Killing demons is fine.

Having Kiryu filming softcore porn with real life actresses as a mini game might not be so cool.

I still think it's bullshit tho. Porting those games to the Switch could be a pain, specially the ones that run in the Dragon Engine.

Nier Automata releases next month on Switch and I'm pretty sure this game is darker and has more overt sexual themes than any Yakuza title, which is ultimately a pretty goofy series.

Just say you don't want to spend extra money to port the games to Switch, it's understandable.

I suppose.

There's bullshit, and then there's Sega.
I preferred when devs were more honest and just laughed at the idea of making WiiU versions of their games. This "family friendly image" BS died when games like Senran Kagura and SMT started appearing on 3DS.

To Japanese the term yakuza is very sensitive
Good thing they're changing it to Like a Dragon in the west too, then.

The Switch has quite a lot of adult and violent games. Sony does more censoring of lewd stuff than Nintendo these days. So nah.
It depends on his frame of reference. It's the clowns in California (department of redundancy department) that censor things on PlayStation, so if he's talking about the Japanese market, he may have more of a point.

The Yakuza games aren't graphical tour de forces. The Switch could run them no problem.

Besides, it's the Yakuza dev with the DEMONSTRABLY oversized foot in his mouth.
People seem to forget most these games were on PS3, including 0 and Kiwami 1 in Japan.

I personally think they should port the PS3 version of 0 to Switch to test the waters, since 0 is the fan favorite, then go from there. Can always save the newer/more hardware demanding ones for Nintendo's next platform if things go well.

Which game is this? Asking for a friend.
Tell your "friend" Kiwami 2.

Yakuza is one of the most family friendly franchises today, oddly enough.

despite the name it is about hard work and moral codes (minus the hostess business part:messenger_mr_smith_who_are_you_going_to_call:).
Yup, it taught me some valuable life lessons. For example, the solution to literally every conflict or minor disagreement is to beat the shit out of somebody (often a whole group of somebodies).

He has a good point, it would indeed be a little tricky selling games like Yakuza on Nintendo.

Nintendo is and will always be the most family friendly company of the 3 big publishers, and that's never gonna change, they will never stop making colorful games, will never stop going after the casual audience, or release gritty shooters, will always publish and advertise games for everyone like Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon. its something that both works in their favor and backfires badly. Their business has grown so much in big part thanks to their quality family friendly brands and that's why they treasure them.

What they are willing to do, however, (specially on the Switch) is go out of their bubble to try and cater to varied audiences in their system, if Resident Evil Revelations port can sell 1 million+, Bayonetta,Shin Megami Tensei, No More Heroes 3,Bethesda games, can do ok numbers (not great, mind you but at least ok) then i suppose there's a chance Yakuza can justify a port one day.

The above games mentioned are on Switch simply because Nintendo and their fans actively support them, they never been anti M rated content, but want to release a game system that everyone can enjoy,Nintendo is even about to launch and advertise an M rated game that was rejected by other companies because of its lewd content and low sales risk, and on the big boy hardcore consoles no less.

They will continue being Nintendo for better or for worse, but at least i can see the Switch is aiming a little closer to a healthy balance of quality content. We will see if they can keep up next gen
