While it’s certainly not affecting everyone, a number of Returnal players are experiencing crashes while playing the game. This is something Housemarque has acknowledged, although it’s suggested that the PlayStation 5 is the problem – and not necessarily the game. Writing on Discord, a spokesperson said: “This is an issue with the platform. We've sent our report to [Sony]. Specifically, it has something to do with the pre-start system.”

Be interesting to see what this is, Returnal is far from the only game with crashes like this, but it doesn't seem consistent. I wonder if the report HM sent in, helps with other games as well, or whether the prestart scipts are specific to types of interaction. There's only so many variations of rest mode etc. people can have surely. I'm guessing pre-start must be like the equivalent of a prefetch system?

Watched some really great streams of this on twitch. Looking forward to picking it up at some point, but they deffo need to add a save and quit.

Maybe they should introduce a item in-game that gives you the possibility to save or something. That would be the most elegant way to solve this "issue".

Or maybe have it where once you load the save it deletes it, and you have to make a new save? That could work.
