Resident Evil: Veronica (Code Veronica Remake) Announced

It's a manufactured controversy. All these years and I'm yet to be convinced that it's anything but. I'd wager that half the people who parrot RE5 being controversial couldn't tell you why.
100% manufactured.

N'Gai Croal of Newsweek did an interview with MTV Multiplayer back in 2008 about it and even said in the interview "Wow, clearly no one black worked on this game." And went on to criticize Capcom for putting black zombies in the trailer. And of course from there it picked up steam with every game journalist.

One of the first examples I can remember of people injecting their politics into games.

Yes, it was the patient zero of the Game Journo Virus.

This remake kinda kindled a crazy thought.... maybe Capcom is trying to erase RE5?
I mean, Resident Evil Veronica. They got rid of the word "code".

Also release of the remake order is also in question too. RE2 remake, RE3 remake, RE4 remake - so technically, it should be RE 5 (V) remake, and maybe they are doing it to smoothly connect and do a mild mid-reboot to Ethan Winters saga and RE 9 (which I have not played)...

Just a thought.

Re5 is referenced in the RE4 remake and has key story points that are referenced in RE 7 and 8. Despite what a handful of pissy journalists feel about RE5 being divisive, it's definitely going to be remade, just not yet.

Also, at some point you have to ask yourself, is removing the only RE game from canon that stars the series first dark skinned character more racist or less racist?

Third person only confirmed, among other things.

In RE9 I when t with 3rd person for both characters. 3rd person feels right for RE games.

This also confirms that maybe that the game was modified for trailer and that close up of Claire was probably an additional render made for the revealing, probably CGI
hence why it looks different to the actual Claire model.
the in-game model looks way better.

Will be interesting to see what Capcom does with this. All other REmakes to date have been based on original games that are beloved classics. Code Veronica is....less beloved. Hopefully Capcom will take it is an opportunity to make significant improvements.

Well, I did enjoy RE5 actually and I hope the eventual RE5 Remake would make it even better - but wasn't too keen of the end fight of the boulder thing.
I mean, where in the world, you go underground and find a pit of lava flowing? The air must be so hot and toxic, you'd die pretty much instantly.
Also in the same vein, I loved CV's mannor/prison complex type - but felt like jet fighter flight to the arctic/antarctica felt somewhat too arbitraray.

Come to think of it though.. it does look like the end-game fight places are usually pretty not realistic for a lot of earlier half of RE series. It starts pretty ground place, then ends up in some sort of laboratory or some exotic place. ;)

Hopefully it won't be trash this time. RE5 was a huge turnoff for me. They leaned way too heavily into the action element and the AI was borderline brain dead.

I never played the original so this will be all new to me. Day 1 like pretty much everything Capcom.
I've tried to play it but it is ROUGH!

I do feel like I should complete it before attempting this remake so I can see how good the improvements are.

This is the most hype remake because they can take an objectively bad game and make it amazing. The prior ones were already incredible so improving them is near impossible.

5 and 6 are the only RE games that I genuinely cannot get into. Just not enjoyable at all for me.
RE5 isn't that bad, but more fun with a partner. 6 is also fucking fun with partners. I like the ogs plus veronica X more, but I found 5 and 6 more enjoyable than recent remakes slop including requiem.

I only played a bit of RE5 in co-op but my full playthrough was solo and I didn't think it was that good. It ended really badly with that Wesker boulder thing too. Apart from the size and scale it felt like an inferior RE4. This was made at a time when I believe a lot of talent such as Mikami left Capcom after the Gamecube RE4 release. Their output for a while afterwards was a step down. The Separate Ways extra they added when RE4 got ported to other systems was diabolical. Worst experience I've had with an RE game. RE5 was just ok. RE6 got such a bad reception I never bothered with it. DMC4 was also not as good as DMC3.

I don't think it's aged very well and like most games, the fun factor elevated by playing in co-op.

So in other words, they scratched that iconic entrance. Fuck them.

"Iconic entrance"

er .. ok.

The idea of a 19 year old college student infiltrating a secure complex and gunning down half a dozen guys was ridiculous even then, but The Matrix had just come out and they just had to do something similar, lol.

I'm glad they're going with a more sensible intro. A seasoned veteran mercenary like Hunk will always have the upper hand on a college student.

Yeah it was ridiculous, but they can adjust that. At the end it's a videogame about bioweapons, fuck realism.

Really happy to hear that it's third person. Been playing through RE9 lately and have been really enjoying it, so now I can look forward to this one.
