Not sure what qualifies being a Sony fan in this case? I'm primarily a PC gamer but I've owned every PlayStation generation including the PSP, so PlayStation has always kind of been my main side platform for exclusives like Bloodborne, Last Guardian, Gravity Rush, etc and legacy Sony properties like Gran Turismo, Wipeout, Hot Shots Golf, etc.

The disc issue isn't that important to me personally but it's just the cherry on top of the entire Jim Ryan / Hermen Hulst era of running the brand / platform into the ground. I don't care about or connect with most of Sony's game library right now and there's shockingly few titles I care about.

- The Last Of Us / Uncharted titles are solid but honestly over rated.
- The Horizon games are boring as fuck.
- The Insomniac Spiderman titles are some of the least interesting properties Spiderman has ever been involved in.
- The God of War titles are ok but I can live without them.

It all just feels too steralized and isn't hitting the creative bars I've come to love from Sony. When I think about what I'd actually lose by not owning my PS5 it's down to Ghost of Yotei, Demon Souls remake, and Astro Bot... Three whole games. Ghost of Yotei wasn't as good as Tsushima and I could live without it. Bluepoint is dead so no more remakes of classics. Which just leaves Astro Bot and team Asobi, the last sliver of soul from the old Sony and the only team left worth giving a shit about. As much as I enjoyed Astro Bot, I'm not about to drop $1000 to play it, so I'm out.

I've been with Sony from day one, but I'm probably not going to bother with the PS6.

I just don't trust with a digital library, I don't like that they've abandoned consumer choice and honestly, their first party line up just doesn't do it for me anymore.
Yup, sony going all digital ps6 onwards is like ur gf asking u to "lets go on a break", in theory it could mean noting awful but chances(close to 100%) are she just wanna get plowed by chads w/o feeling any remorse, it simply means relationship ended and that girl(same like sony) totally lost respect for u.

Im baffled by the fact this thread is for sony fans only and yet there seems to be non virgin people in it ?
As for me, as a sony fan i enjoy the shitstorm.

Sony seemed to have lost its n°1 anticonsumer corporation some years ago to Apple and their brainless drones fanbase. But with a move like this, the rankings have to move and they might have gotten back the p4p asshole company title.

That being said i'll buy the ps6 if the bullshit gameplay trailers are convincing enough.

I'll be honest, this is the worst generation for gaming. It's not just about the games, it's about the greed and direction it's going. I've retreated more to retro gaming and spent my money there. Modern gaming is pushing me away and my attitude isn't so positive towards it right now. The industry is in shambles and headed towards a cliff.

Having said that, I am holding out for 3 titles, FF7, P6 and Jedi 3. I'll probably keep going down the retro path, some PC and some Switch 2. I'll support titles like Mina, Marvel invasion, Terminator 2, TMNT.

I won't be jumping into PS6 day one, Sony will have to earn it this time. Usually I jump in blindly, not this time.

I was a big Playstation guy up until 2017/2018, when they completely abandoned the Japanese market and only started making Triple A movie slop games, hell I would even go as far as saying that I enjoyed the Xbox One and the Series X more than the PS4 and PS5 ( PC is of course superior to all of them ).

The only way I would even consider buying a PS6 is if Sony :

1 - Started reviving all the classic IPs they abandoned years ago ( Buzz, Socom, Killzone, Resistance, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Twisted Metal, MotorStorm etc ).

2 - Reversed the decision to end physical media .

3 - Revised the terms of service to be more costumer friendly, and no BS banning PS accounts if you don't play for a period of three years.

Recent news did not affect me whatsoever and I couldn't care less to be honest. I've been digital only (PC) for way over a decade. The price tag of the PS6 at launch is actually what will be the decider for me.

i m full digital from 2010.
Other options (PC, xbox) are full digital and subscription based anyway.
There is no real alternative and it personally doesnt affect me at all.
Only problem is i wont be able to borrow games, which isnt THAT big of a deal as it was 2-3 games per year max.
I would like for the retail discs to exist as an option, but it was inevitable. We have already voted with our wallets, years ago. It wont change
I ll be buying PS6, except if something catastrophic happens. eg $2k price point and laughable specs.

Xbox is full digital since when? I buy my physical for Xbox..

Not denying they are a heading the same direction as Sony but stating that Xbox is fully digital is a straight up lie.

Haven't bought disc for more than ten years, so don't really care about current mess
Will buy PS6 day1, same as I did with other consoles since PS3, for convenience gaming, PC is too much of a bother to play on

Xbox is irrelevant anyway, its stupid to get an xbox as long as pc exists. Especially for xbox MS pushed people to go full sub

I wish there were more options in the poll. I'm lukewarm on the PS6. The absence of physical games has nothing to do with it. I'm an owner of a PS5 Pro with a disc drive for maximum backwards compatibility. I am loving the experience I am having on my PS5 Pro, and as such have no sense of urgency for a PS6. Games already look and run so good on my current system. I don't feel like my box is way outmoded and desperately needs an upgrade.

I will probably buy a PS6 at some point, but unless the price is heavily subsidized, it's pretty unlikely that I'll do so at launch.

As for "muh physical games", I've said before I'm a huge physical games guy as well as a PS only gamer. In fact, I have six separate physical games for PS5 on pre-order right now. They were all placed before the announcement of support ending for physical games. I really don't get why people are screaming so hard about something that has been in the works for so long. Physical games make up such a small part of the overall gaming market that they have become irrelevant. People love to post about a handful of Sony published titles that had significant physical sales--some people posting data on games that are a decade old like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

That's all well and good if a handful of titles move big physical numbers, but those physical sales are still a drop in the ocean of gaming. Sony has been cutting Blu-Ray production for some time now, they didn't just wake up one day and decide to phase it out. Year after year after year, the numbers go down. And the physical experience gets worse.

You buy a physical game on PS5 and you get a disc in a box. No manual. No maps. No errata. In a great many cases, you don't even get a complete game. You insert the disc on launch day, and after the disc installs, an absolutely massive update is still downloading for the game. Then there is all the post-launch patches and DLC. Even when you buy so-called "complete editions" of games physically that release later, it's just the same day 1 version of the game in the box with a voucher code(s) for DLC content. It's not on the disc.

When I first heard the news a few days ago, I looked at my shelf with hundreds of physical games, and I said. "Oh, wow. That sucks. But it's nice that we had it as long as we did." I didn't get mad. I didn't feel some need to rush to Sony the multi-billion dollar corporation's defense. I recognized the reality that the market has moved towards digital for the last two decades, and that all digital is what every single game publisher and platform holder have wanted since digital games began emerging on console in the seventh generation.

This ninth generation has been absolutely devastating for what remained of the physical games market. The sales are so low they have become irrelevant. Sony can make more money by cutting the expense of them and going digital only.

To all the people screaming about betrayal, Sony does not hear you. Sony does not care. They are not beholden to you. They are beholden to their shareholders. They have only two goals as a corporation--to increase profits and increase the valuation of their stock. Your feelings do not matter.

Do you think their board held a meeting to decide the best way to piss off their fans? They looked at the numbers and said physical does not make sense anymore. They can make more money by going digital only. They also looked at the data and knew it would anger people. That they would lose paying customers over it. Sony examined that data, calculated the value of those customers, and deemed them to be acceptable losses.

Sony announced the death of physical games on PlayStation. Their stock went up. Their shareholders applauded. Your screams for vengeance fell on deaf ears. They do not care. Because the people making all the noise are not a relevant part of Sony's portfolio. Your business is welcome, but if you're determined not to patronize them over it, they are fine with that.

Cancel your PS+. Sell your PS5. Sony does not care. You are not "sticking it to Sony." Your rage and your departure are a calculated part of the process. That is just the reality of the situation.

I've been a supporter of PlayStation since the original release of Resident Evil 2 back in '97. Bought every single console and played almost all of their exclusives.

I'll be the first to say the PS5 era is a completely different feel from the PS1-PS4. I even hesitated with the PS3 when it originally released, but eventually that paid out to what was a fantastic generation of games.

Something has changed drastically with PS5 so much so that I've lost all interest in the brand since it release in 2020. The first party games don't really exist much anymore and for me that's why I've always played on their platform.

Sony fans? Are you sure you are a Sony fans if you don't have their fans?

What? I couldn't hear you over my Sony fans. Let me turn them down.

All about the content, price and hardware specs for me.

And when I say hardware, I don't mean how much uplift is there in graphics, I mean things like "will it take my existing 4tb m.2 PCIE 4.0 SSD from my Playstation 5 Pro to the PS6?" and "how much do they give me in onboard storage?" etc.

Price is the concern, not digital - that ship has sailed long ago and if people were really that vexed with physical then they should have been buying discs all this time.

The only way I don't have the latest Sony and Nintendo hardware is if I can't afford it.

That said I do support the boycott. I'm just not an active participant. I need to play my games.

Think I'll just wait another three gens after PS6 when Sony abandons digital-only for electronic spores that attach directly to my adrenal glands for the ultimate VR gaming experience.

depends on if i can still play my discs on ps6, either let me digitize my collection of give me an optional disc drive or some other way to play my games if not this was my last playstation

I really don't care anymore if it's physical or not. I did when you could trade them in at gamestop for a decent amount but those days are over.
They aren't over on mercari and other places to sell.. I buy games at 70 and can play them and sell for 40 to 45 easy all day long on mercari.

But that said I'm not that married to physical like I used to be, I have enjoyed building my digital collection as well

Everything is worse for sony right now, is playstation better off with disk drive? Probably know, many still want physical games.

t this point, hard pass. I'll instant forgive if they say "fine, physical stays". Because I really don't want to go back to PC as my primary gaming rig.

I've been a Sony-only gamer for two generations, but I never considered myself a "Sony fan," so I won't vote.

I'm currently weighing whether to stick with PS6 next gen, jump to PC, or just forget the whole thing. Fortunately, it's not a decision I need to make any time soon. We've got a couple years before the PS6 arrives, so plenty of time to mull things over.

I'll buy it anyways because my kids, my friends, and my history is with PlayStation products more than any others these days. That said..

Really unhappy really. I was already very concerned that Sony would go all digital with the Ps6. I did not expect that they would rugpull the current generation though, that's what's really shocking. As far as I know the disk drive model of the PS5 is far and away the most popular model indicating quite a significant amount of physical sales still happening. I can't imagine they will just abandon all those users when backwards compatibility has always been so important to them. There has to at least be a attachable drive or using the current one.

That said, out of the probably 500 or so PlayStation games I own starting with the initial PlayStation up to the 5, I have only a handful of digital titles maybe about 10 or 15, the majority of those being games that didn't have a physical presence whatsoever. I have no intentions of carrying forward in an exclusively digital environment on PlayStation. It's really unfortunate and sad but it is what it is and I knew this day was coming and this is just where we part ways it seems.

I'll probably pick up a PS6 eventually, though it'll depend on the price at launch, and I'll definitely wait a while after launch to grab one. I'm already using a PS5 Digital Edition and have fully moved my whole library over to digital, so it works for me, so far.

I realize that many gamers are frustrated and angry regarding Sony's recent decisions, and those feelings are completely valid. But I hope folks can also see that not everyone feels the same way. Here's where I'm coming from:
  1. Preservation: I'm not really a collector, and I rarely go back to play old games. If I ever get the itch to revisit a classic, I'll just use an emulator on my PC or wait for a remake/remaster.

  2. Price: I rarely pay full price for games at launch, with the exception of a few major games. I'm more than happy to wait for a sale or until the game hits the PS Plus catalog.

  3. Ownership: People talk about the risks of digital games, but I feel physical games have their own headaches. I've lost plenty of games to disc rot, scratches, or even having my stuff (PS3 and PS4 consoles) stolen back in the day. It sucks that I can't just move my old discs over to digital, but I've already accepted that my old library is pretty much gone anyway.
Honestly, for me, memories of completing a game on its original hardware are priceless and cannot be replicated by a port or an emulator later on. If I do revisit an old game, I prefer doing it on PC, where I can mod it to make the experience feel fresh and different.

TL;DR: I like PlayStation and will likely grab a PS6. I know limiting the options to play games sucks for a lot of people, but I just hope we can respect that everyone games a little differently.

Won't buy.
Been a loyal Pony since PS1 when I was a little kid.
The recent news are just another reason not to buy.
Exclusive output has been abysmal this gen, the worst it has ever been. This trend will likely continue. And after PS6 releases Sony will continue to milk cross-gen for another 4-5 years at least so there will be no real reason to buy a PS6. No system seller games, no buy.

I will probably buy a high-end PC in a couple of years and that will do. GTA 6 is the only reason I'm keeping the console nowadays but even that will be coming to PC sooner or later.

- New consoles have diminishing returns
- Sony exclusives are fucked due to GAAS debacle
- Digital only will spook gamers
- What was the point of having PS5 over PS4?

I guess it depends on what your definition of "Sony fan" is. If it's brain dead, retard brand slave that defends billion dollar company at every opportunity, no, I'm not a "Sony fan". If it's someone who has owned every single piece of gaming hardware Sony has ever made for the past 30 years, then, yes, I'm a fan.

Either way, I'm not buying a PS6. The PS5 had exactly ONE title that was a "can't miss" game for me, Demon's Souls. Past that, this gen has been a dud for me, and with increasing development times meaning less games, hardware prices being ridiculous, and the constant gouging of their current customers, I don't foresee PS6 being any better in this aspect.

Xbox needs every win it can get at this point. I can almost guarantee they were leaning towards digital only as well, but I can't see how they let this opportunity slip by to use this as marketing and as a selling point.

I would buy the PlayStation 6 under three specific circumstances:

1- If the price makes sense. I don't intend to pay more than $500 for a video game console. At most, I might consider paying a little more if it's a really good bundle.

2- If they offer a very cheap subscription just for online play, something like $19.99 a year, similar to Switch Online.

3- If Sony stops making games stuffed with woke garbage. I have absolutely no interest in financially supporting any of that by participating in their ecosystem.

I've only used the disc drive in my PS5 once, and that was for demon souls which was in a bundle (along with an extra controller) I had to get from gamestop at the time in order to buy the system. I actually tried to get the digital only version of the ps5 to save money, but could only get that gamestop bundle (at a rather hefty cost). I've been mostly digital since Steam took off. Only my Switch 1 collection was mix of physical and digital. Only had a 128GB micro sd card in my switch, so I purchased bigger games on game cards. My back is so fucked up (due to age and arthritis, not being fat) that getting out of my chair to change game is a pain, literally. Plus the selection of games at my walmart (only place to buy games in my small town) has been shit for a long time. So Sony going all digital with the PS6 doesn't affect me nor did it have any influence on my intentions to buy it. The only thing that will stop me from getting the ps6 is excessive pricing of the hardware, although I still might bite the bullet as will probably be cheaper than similarly specced PCs and Helix. I do understand the frustrations of collectors. But considering how long PC has been digital only, I'm surprised it took consoles this long to go digital only as well. I mean the PS3 was out when PC was mostly all digital.

I'll buy it anyway, all digital sucks and has many tangible downsides but I haven't bought a physical game in years so I am not super mad, just has seemed inevitable for a long time.

However, I likely won't buy it at launch like I have every other Playstation except the 1. Sony's first party pipeline is so obviously completely jammed up right now, they would have to have like 3 or 4 exclusives in the launch window that I wanted to play for me to buy at launch. It's been 6 years and I think Horizon Forbidden West is the only Sony console exclusive I have played on PS5. My Brother bought me Last of Us remake as a gift so I played that too but would have waited for it to have gone on sale on PC otherwise.

I have been waiting on Yotei to go on sale, I was initially waiting for it to come to PC but now Sony is not releasing anything but service games on PC. I barely enjoy the God of War Series, played 2018s when Sony gave it to me for free but have no interest in paying for the sequel which by all accounts is worse. Never got into the Spider-man games, Sony will give me Astrobot for free in time, I played Demon Souls remake for a few hours but fell off it.

Honestly the best time I had on PS5 was replaying Ghost of Tsushima and Last of Us 2 at better frame rates back in late 2020/early 2021.

Maybe after 3-4 years after release, they make less and less exclusive games and their GAAS games are all Ass or flops.
I still like my game discs, they are much cheaper where i buy them than on psn or steam. just got that adventures of elliot or whatever the name is for 50eu, wolverine will be 60eu. netgames.de
Ordered me a PC cause i need a new one anyway (7500f, 9070 xt, 32gb ram, 2tb ssd, good fan and power supply), 1800eu including windows and getting put togehter. That rig will likely be better than a PS6 anyway. and as a bonus i wont need that Helix Xbox cause that PC will get the games too.

Sony have burned me too many times now. Vita, PSVR2 support, all the shit policies and shit games during the PS5 generation (a console that had so much potential, only never to be realized)..

Nope, I'm out. I have 0 interest in the PS6, and I have no confidence or trust left.

It'll be down to the price for me, if it's a thousand usd as the rumor goes then is probably gonna be a pass. Here in Mexico is gonna be stupidly expensive, the ps5 pro right now is very hard to justify. Unless they release some exclusive masterpieces on launch i'll just keep playing my ps5, most games are gonna be cross generation anyways.

Kinda terrible voting options. I voted "Sony betrayed me" but I don't really view it this way lol, too emotional for my blood.
I shouldn't have even bought the PS5 after TLOU2 shit show, but I still bought it out of a habit, won't happen with the PS6.
I don't give a shit about digital only future, but I just can't bring myself to buy DEI and LGBT games, every time I see them trans aliens and those boy lovers in games I'm about to puke out of pure disgust.

All those voting the middle option and we just know they'll be amongst the first to pre-order 😂
No, we wont, simply coz of economic reality of not being able to afford ps6 digital licences, its not matter of us wanting something or not, we simply cant afford it.
Imagine volkswagen decided to end all their cheaper cars lines and only stick to premium products, thats alldigital ps6, at least 50% of previous ps4 owners wont be able to afford it, hell midrange gaming pc will turn out to be much cheaper over span of whole gen...
Look at that shit, gta6 digital only, look at its price:
https://www.playstation.com/pl-pl/games/grand-theft-auto-vi/ 429pln aka over 114 fucking dollars, u think ur normal ps4/ps5 physical disc buyer can afford to buy all games at that price? Its not even buying games, its buying digital licence which u cant sell/lend and can be taken from u anytime, ofc its logical tens of milions of ppl who previously bought physical discs(some at launch, some discounted, some 2ndhand even) cant afford that nasty price hike, its 4-5x hike btw with certainty to only get worse over span of next gen...

I'm not a tech guy, but isn't it pretty late in the game to be redesigning the hardware? Wouldn't they have already decided something like this from the start? And wouldn't redesigning the machine to include a disc drive be a pretty significant overhaul of the innards, shape, cooling system, etc.?

Owned every Sony console, including the handhelds.
Will not be buying a console that costs $1000 and is download only.
I have a PC that does that already.
And their exclusives this gen are easily the worst in their history.

Not sure how "gamers" will react. But it may be time for Sony to lose their top spot like during the PS2-PS3 transition.
It will be better for everyone.

Technicalities aside, i am almost certain that MS is pleased that Sony took on the burden of this decision and the associated social media backlash so that they could silently follow.

This is where the entertainment industry is heading, and there is no escaping it.
