I does makes sense. It's not about the expansion bay, but about the availability of those supported NVMe drives.

I left PT there too.I like what they did with the Game Base, by separating the groups from friends list, and what they did on the Library, can finally hide all the demos and betas i played on PS4 and was showing on my game library. No moreI still left PT un hidden because im masochist.
Weird how demos were on top of the actual game. I went to resident evil 2 and it said not playable. Chose hide and it was then playable (with disc) as the main game was hidden behind the demo.
Not a fan of party being first in game base, would rather it showed friends list by default.

Thanks for sharing and the info. I'm using an adata se800 external ssd nvme drive and have this issue with not being able to use it in rest mode without repairing everytime I turn the system on from rest.
Is there anything I can do to my external ssd drive to fix this? I can't open it and put it in a different encloser could I? Would it be best to maybe just sell it and get another one that is confirmed to work with the ps5? I've had it for a few months so can't return it.
Website even mentions that it's ps5 compatible but not being able to use it in rest mode is a deal breaker for me.

The random disc spinning appears to be improved.
Tonight, I played Ghost of Tsushima for an hour, followed by an hour of watching Netflix. Aside from the initial spin up at boot, I don't recall the disc spinning up during Ghost. It certainly didn't do it during Netflix.
Normally, the PS5 would spin up the disc twice during the two hours I have it on, but tonight it didn't do it. That's a massive improvement in my experience. Here's hoping that's now thing that's here to stay, and the PS5 wasn't just giving me a night off.

Yeah that was the same issue I dealt with and almost ended up getting a new SSD like the T5 or T7, BUT that enclosure I linked fixed those problems with my "old" nVME.
I've tried it on and off today and aside from the slow downloads from the back USBs, it's worked perfectly in rest mode.

The whole thing doesn't make sense. Why aren't there any supported nvme drives? Sony is big enough to strike partnerships with companies that can produce them. They've known about their nvme spec for very long time.. unless it was a last minute addition?

Biggest feature was them fixing the random disc spinning issue, whether you were playing the disc game or not.

Yes, there are, and they frequently go on sales.

IIRC Settings>System>Something about HDMI. I just turned it off and never gave a second look, but it's definitely there.

These things are impossible to find. For most PS5 users these features WILL be there on day 1.
Factually true but still annoying for consumers currently. Had to wait long for suspend mode on the ps4 so it's now a new experience really.

I don't need to tell you that I told you so, but I told you so. It's honestly pretty obvious for those who's been dealing with PC hardware for years.
Also, who's dumb enough right now to rush and buy almost two times more expensive (1 and 4 TBs models) M.2 Gen 4 SSD instead of 10-20 GB/s external USB SSD, store their PS4/PS5 games on it and use internal SSD only when they need to play PS5 game? Moreover, transfering games from USB SSD to internal NVMe (and the other way around) is much faster in comparison to downloading them from PSN and you don't need internet connection for it. All you need to do is from here on out is from to time make sure that SSD is connected to active energy source (console or PC, doesn't matter) to prevent data loss.
We didn't have options with Vita, but now we do, so use them to your financial advantage folks and use your brain. I know I won't be buying M.2 SSD until top tear 1-2TB models are $130-140. Also, as NAND tech for M.2 SSDs matures, it hopefully won't need to maintain 80-90+C to offer high transfer speeds.
