The sky is crazy here. This morning was truly apocalyptic looking. Didn't help yesterday was 39c feeling like 45c. Thankfully a little cooler today and the actual fires aren't anywhere near us. It was like this a few years ago and it lasted a week or so before subsiding.

 
It's wild. Air quality in certain parts of Ontario currently rivals industrial regions of India. Stay safe y'all, and turn off your HVAC if you're within range of that smoke. Your filters likely don't have high enough MERV rating to clear out all the nasty stuff.

Yup. It's an orange cloudy haze here. Never seen it ever. The weather app on my phone literally called the forecast "smoke". Googling it, Armstrong Ontario is north of Thunder Bay. And TB is a 14hr drive away from Toronto metro area. Here's a pic outside. It's like my avatar!

Yep, or get an HVAC filter with MERV 13 or higher. MERV 11 is advertised to stop smoke particulates, but it's not that great at stopping PM2.5. High MERV filters will fuck up your HVAC in the long run unless they're specifically built for it due to the increased stress on the motor. But for a temporary solution given what's going on, it's completely justified. Lung cancer is not fun.
 
That train footage is insane. They're way more calm than I would be lol.

I have my vacations in north of Quebec in 4 weeks or so. I doubt we'll be allowed to make fire camps unless there's a shitload of rain coming.
 
Wild fires are scary stuff. I worked an ics role for one last year and it was insane. I thought I was working hard pulling 12-14 hour shifts for a bit over a week but the fire fighters were pulling 24 + shifts and were back at it before I was the next day.

I was in a "base" and we got less than 30 minutes notification that the wind had drastically shifted and we were suddenly in the path of the fire. It was amazing how calm and fantastic they did it. We just moved to a new place and restarted. The old place was in utter flames shortly afterwards.

Firefighters are absolute heroes.
 
Hope everyone stays safe, I live right next to where LNU Lightning Complex fire was in California back in 2020(burned 363,220 acres). It is wild walking outside at like 10am and it seemed like it was night time since the smoke was so thick it blocked out the sun.

In that first video, what am I missing? Is anybody actually trying to get moving or are they all standing around filming like their phones are invincible Captain America shields?

Wild stuff. The smoke's made it's way to the NE US and northern Midwest like it did a couple years ago.
 
So tired of these wildfires every summer. It was nice to actually have some decent air quality until this week. We are currently covered in smoke from Minnesota and Canadian Wildfires. But hey, stop burning fossil fuels guys.

Not sure if serious but maybe one of the reason there's more and more very hot summers in Canada, droughts and fires, is because of too much fossil fuels? The arctic is warming up faster than anywhere else on the planet and it directly impacts northern Canada. So yes, I think it's a pretty good idea to move away from fossil fuels as much as possible..

you need a good logging program, good power lines, and respect for not leaving trash behind.

Helps to not have any arsonists..........

What I'm guessing is that they are waiting for that train to pass so they can move forward.
 
For a moment i read the title like ontario wildlife surround a train and i was thinking how the fuck a group of rabid beavers could threaten someone inside a train...
 
Much different today. The winds must had blown all the ash and smoke a different direction because it's actually bright white/blue skies today with a haze though. So not clear blue skies where you can see the sun.

But the smoky smell is oddly heavier than yesterday. You just cant see it.

Chicagoland area is feeling it today and tomorrow is supposed to be worse. America's hat needs to do better. :)

BC also has yearly wildfire season.

Is the air this bad out there on the west coast every single year?

e: oh, and I didn't realize that part of this smoke is coming from Minnesota? Hope any posters from there are ok.
