Green Bay at Minnesota, 3:00 p.m. - Favre's got something to prove after this week's performance.

Saturday, Dec. 25
Oakland at Kansas City, 5:00 p.m. - Because Kansas are a Jag's best friend.
Denver at Tennessee, 8:30 p.m. - Steve MacWho?

Baltimore at Pittsburgh, 1:00 p.m. - GOTW
Chicago at Detroit, 1:00 p.m.
Houston at Jacksonville, 1:00 p.m. - Nice try, Mig. This time we've got playoff fever, and you... don't.
N.Y. Giants at Cincinnati, 1:00 p.m.
San Diego at Indianapolis, 1:00 p.m. - Manning still embarassed by the Marino comparisons, and refuses to pass the ball. With San Diego stuffing the box, it's left to the Indianapolis defence and special teams to win the game, which they do, 12-10 (with six safeties).
Buffalo at San Francisco, 4:05 p.m. - Is it even worth playing this game? San Francisco will not win a game until they beat the Patriots in the final week of the season.
New England at N.Y. Jets, 4:05 p.m. - It's the only way to be sure.
Arizona at Seattle, 4:15 p.m. - I'm not saying the division is weak, but a team with a losing record could win it. <shudder> This result will prevent that.
Carolina at Tampa Bay, 4:15 p.m.
Washington at Dallas, 4:15 p.m.
Cleveland at Miami, 8:30 p.m. - Miami's hopes of the first overall pick go down the drain.

If I were Andy Reid I would throw the game vs the Rams to reduce the chance of the skins getting in the playoffs. Their defense makes them dangerous. Even now they are the only team that would challenge the Eagles in the NFC IMO. We match up too well with the falcons and packers for them to stand a chance.

Texans still have an outside shot at the playoffs!

Texans win 2
Jacksonville loses 2
Baltimore loses 2
Denver loses 2
Buffalo loses 2
KC wins 2

I'm going to go through all the tiebreaker procedures later today, but I think I had them right.

Since Texans/Jags are in the same division, and Denver/KC are in the same division, division tiebreakers apply to them before throwing them in the wildcard mix.

If Texans win 2, and Jacksonville loses 2, that means that the Texans beat the Jags in week 16, putting the season series at 2-0 Texans. Texans move to the wild card contention.

If Denver loses 2, and KC wins 2, then it'd go all the way down the tiebreaker procedure to...

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory.

As it stands now... KC edges out Denver .560 to .429. If the same holds true after KC's 2 wins, and I don't think it'll change much...then KC advances to the wild card contention.

So, it remains
Texans
Bills
Chiefs
Ravens

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)
1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

1 has already been done...
2 would not apply.
3...is where teams start getting knocked off.

Since Texans, Ravens, and Chiefs are all 5-5-0 in the conference, and Buffalo is 5-6...someone is about to get knocked off...

For this scenario to even come into play...we've already stated that
Houston wins 2, Baltimore loses 2, Chiefs win 2, and Buffalo loses 2.

This would put...
Houston at 7-5, KC at 7-5, Baltimore at 5-7, and Buffalo at 5-7.

This leaves Houston and KC.

Two Clubs
1. Head-to-head, if applicable.

Sep 26
Texans vs Chiefs
24-21

TEXANS ADVANCE!

Although there's about a 5% chance of this happening...there's still a chance!

oh shit, i thought the colts were playing at SD. oops.

on one hand, i'd like to see the chargers win and so the pats could lose and lose their bye...but on the other hand, the colts could win out and the pats lose out(GO NINERS) and they could get the bye....so i'm torn.
if NE wins this week it doesn't matter what the colts do, so I'd prefer SD wins if NE does indeed beat those privledged jets.

Since it's more relevant to this week's thread than last, a quick recap of the discussion between FMT and myself in the week 15 thread:

iapetus said:
Sorry, FMT. Dorsey's losing this week. Karma decrees that the 49ers will only beat the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots this season.
FMT said:
you want to bet an avatar on that buddy? cause i guarantee a niners win
iapetus said:
Sounds like a fair bet to me. I'll sport your choice of 49ers avatar through to the end of the regular season if the 49ers win, with a Dorsey-lovin' tag. If the 49ers lose, you get my choice of Jaguars avatar through to the end of the regular season, with a tag singing the praises of Lord Byron. Deal?
FMT said:
the loser sports it until after the PROBOWL! what say you now jaggy? too late to turn back now!
So there you have it. The explanation for why I'll be wearing a 49ers avatar through to the Pro Bowl. Or not, as the case may be. :D

8:48 -- Just to screw over all the "Pats -10" money, Miami drives for an apparently meaningless TD. Now it's 28-23 with 2:07 remaining. What's more unbelievable, the fact that Miami covered this game, or the fact that Feeley has played four quarters without throwing an interception? Probably a tossup.

:lol

God, this is like watching the game all over again. :D

A few quotes in support of Darius:

Marv Levy, Hall of Fame coach:
"As for the play where Jaguars safety Donovin Darius clotheslined Packers receiver Robert Ferguson, knocking him on the ground, I don't think that was an intentionally malicious hit."

Bubba Franks, Green Bay Packers TE:
"some of our tempers were getting out of hand there [...] I'm not going to say it was a cheap shot."

Darren Sharper, Green Bay Packers FS:
"You never want to see a guy get hit like that and then be laying motionless, but I don't know if you can say the hit by Darius was a cheap shot"

Robert Ferguson, Green Bay Packers WR (to DD):
"I know this was not a cheap shot. I know you're not a dirty player."

Robert Ferguson, Green Bay Packers WR:
"He's not a dirty player at all. He's just an aggressive player."

The fine's still deserved, though. Malicious or not, you can't put yourself into a position where that's going to happen.

without TO the eagles were the best team in the NFC east for the past 3 yrs...and good enough to make it to the championship game....with TO they were the best in the NFC. i seriously doubt they will falter to the point they will lose this coming game, the next game, or be eliminated in one game in the playoffs. too much character on this team. and mcnabb will have to resort to his run first style and i know vick is king for that but mcnabb can make his own magic by just running.

Trotter, Sheppard, Lewis, Dawkins and Reese made the probowl on defense for the eagles (cant believe Kearse isnt there). Also Sheldon Brown was nfc defensive player of the week, Lito has won it before.

In a span of less than a full season, their total of 2 NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors matched the eight-year total of former cornerback tandem Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor. Vincent made five straight Pro Bowls but was never named a Player of the Week. Taylor won the award twice as an Eagle.

Considering our only weakness in espn football was the defense we should be dominant next year. :)

Steelers get six pro bowlers and six alts. Not bad.
OL: Faneca, Hartings
WR: Ward
LB: Farrior, Porter
S: Polamalu

Alternates:

Roethlisberger, OT Smith, DE Smith, Randle El, FB Kreider, P Gardocki.

I didn't think Polamalu would have gotten a spot, the voting only had one vote for his position, and I assumed it was going to Reed. Guess they allow more players than people can vote for.

Cool. I'm a little surprised to see Porter, he's having a good year, but wasn't sure it would be recognized. Aaron Smith I think should have been selected a starter. But overall I'm very satisfied with the selections.

No way, Dwight Freeney and John Abraham are easily more deserving than Smith of a spot on the all-pro team. Smith is good, but those two (In addition to Jason Taylor and a handful of other players) are much better.

And that's just the AFC alone. How the hell did Kearse not make the pro bowl squad? He's been the most impressive Eagle player this year. I knew Owens was good, but Kearse has been making huge plays all year long, stuff he never did on the Titans squad. Who, apart from Peppers, could possibly be considered better in the NFC?

Smith plays in a 3-4 though, not a 4-3. Yet he still has 40 tackles, 8 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. Normally a steelers end job is to just make room for linebackers to make plays, he's doing that and making plays himself.

Yeah, 8 sacks in a 3-4 scheme is fucking nutty. I think there was an article on ESPN just a couple weeks ago talking about the lack of stats for D-linemen in a 3-4.

You are kidding right? He had 14.5 sacks his first year with the Titans and 11.5 his second. And actually, his numbers this year, 31 tackles 7.5 sacks, are very similar to what he had last year with the Titans, 41 tackles and 9.5 sacks.

He was only a pass rusher on the Titans (probably the best in the league, but that's not my point). This year on the Eagles, from what I've seen of them at least, he's been doing a good job of making plays on people other than the QB.

So, Mig, you're bitter that Jimmy Smith didn't get in over Andre Johnson, then? More TDs, better yards per catch, more yards over the season, more first downs, more 20+ catches, more 40+ catches - more everything, pretty much. Just thank your lucky stars that the best players don't always go to the Pro Bowl...
