Anyone wish to comment or shall we just put the whole power discussion behind us once and for all. 🤔

What would have put this shit to bed a Teardown Mark Cerny said would happen. 🤔

Gavin will probably talk about this since he follows them. So expect this to be brought up again in the near future. Also the original source is that discord so it's probably fake.

Anyone in the UK who preordered in a GAME physical shop before? I just paid 10 pounds to lock it and I just need to bring the ticket on the big day... I'm all good?

We all know it will never be.
On the other hand, there is little to discuss. "Disable effects" like what? Some reflections? A filter that sightly refines textures? Shit, how I'm supposed to appreciate the game now, right?
You saw R&C, you saw Demon's, you saw Horizon (which should be reprensentative of gameplay graphics, not because I say so but because pretty much any other PS4 exclusive says so), you heard of CoD pushing for 4K 120 fps. We went ok overall with a fucking tablet CPU, I will not concern myself now that Zen 2 is around for sure.
There is not a single concern about the machine that should open discussions about such problems on games not yet released. It's just the hysterical obsession of control and victory from both barricades.
18% GPU difference or whatever it's not a concern, it's a minor element on double digits TFs consoles that dwarfs the prior generation.
And I don't have anything against Dusk Golem, it's just that his contribution it's useless. He can't offer proofs, he has no actual tech knowledge, so he isn't warning me about anything, he does me no service. As any conscious person out there I will simply check for performance tests and real info around the game release. Period.

Official pricing in Oman:

PS5: 215 Omani Rials ($559)
PS5DE: 170 OMR ($442)

Pretty nice, actually. Final prices indeed after imports, etc. No VAT here yet, government is still thinking about implementing 5%.

Burce Lee kinda cheated here.

a) the first karateka comically throws a punch bare foot (no grip at all)
b) Bruce Lee wears shoes, has much better grip and essentially just pushes the guy back, by attacking him from below>up in motion, by putting his upperbody, and front right leg (grip) behind it.

He even is aided by his legs, right before the pushback you can see how Lee "dips" and then lands the "punch", sort of a upper-cut-push-back. Rest is inertia, a guy wearing leather shoes on a slippery surface losing grip, tumbling backwards. You can even notice how Lee leans towards, puts his upper body behind the "push".

I would have crushed him!

I'm far from an expert but I'm sure Mark Cerny talked about locked profiles on the dev kits so devs can easily optomise their game. It looks like those CPU/GPU speeds are for CPU or GPU bound scenarios?

All i know is i have seen demon Souls at 60 fps and rachet and clank going through portal after portal and loading entire worlds in the process.

If this is PlayStation with problems, god help these fud spreaders when Sony fixes them all.

Ps, we have been here before boys and girls, don't believe any of this shit, these people are scum.

I'm really surprised by how in every poll the XSS is the less desired console. I mean, we see a lot of people hyping the console and say that it will be the best selling next gen Xbox due to its price, but none of them seem to be willing to buy it. And it makes me wonder, what if the XSX ends up outselling the XSS by a far margin?

Casuals rarely see these posts, so there's that.

If ps5 APU would have to run gpu at 1.2GHz with 3.5GHz cpu mode, then there is no way that xsex would run constantly at clocks it runs at.

Unless Sony fucked up and I dont think so

I do remember Cerny saying that. What I don't like is that some people are.saying the clocks will drop so low that it will become weaker than Series S. That part is FUD.

If they were not so stupid they would have a more possible FUD like a few percent or something but they have seen the ps5 sales go astronomic and that is what we call FUD desperation.

They should be more worried about XSX hitting its power ceiling, we have seen nothing yet on XSX performance other than Halo supposedly and that XSX design with only 4 shader arrays is not exactly wide for efficiency, some of those CUs will be begging for food.

Is there a 120 fps mode like dirt. :messenger_grinning:
Yes but fuck knows what resolution it's at lol.
In DMC5SE, players have the choice to turn on ray tracing and prioritize resolution (targeting 4K @ 30fps), or frame rate (targeting 1080p @ 60fps).
For players who prefer to allocate their horsepower to frame rates over graphics, PS5 also gives console players the ability to play their games at frame rates up to 120fps (with a compatible display, of course), which is enabled in DMC5SE when players turn on High Framerate Mode.

First thanks for your reply. I agree with most of what you said. But there are others parameters we should use when we compare both machines. It's not only about the potential power of those machines (12tf vs 10tf). It's also about mature and easy APIs that can extract the most of the hardware in a short time (time to triangle).

For instance let's just compare Halo Infinite and horizon 2 / Spiderman. Those cross-gen games have to run on a 1.3-1.8 tflops hardware. Now let's just compare the results (imagine Craig meme here). And 343 Industries are working on Halo since 5 years and they are a much bigger team than Sony's teams.

Now the others game: just how great Ratchet & Clank already look. Demon's souls is in dev since 3 years by a relatively small team, and it's already the most impressive next-gen title.

Finally, almost all those Sony big titles are already using Ray tracing (Spiderman, R&C, Demon's souls and Gran Turismo 7) while MS is showcasing their big games on mighty powerful 2080ti cards... without ray tracing enabled (coming later in a patch).

And finally about Demon's souls, even with loadings times, maybe XSX hardware is not powerful enough (polygons & SSD) to run Demon's souls as it is. First the density of the levels need a machine tailered at designed tons of polygons (we know PS5 has the advantage here) and second maybe they are constantly streaming assets even in the same map, just before a new corridor like in the UE5 demo.
Demon's Souls:
"...visually "identical" in one way or another..." (not in the same way)

As far as I know, XSX tools no longer have the initial problems, so most of the responsibility falls on the developer today.

Come on little lady speak to me.

Been trying to get a pre-order set, several shops where I was merely minutes late. With one I was still typing in my info and poof.... Hmpf

I did pay 50 euros for a preorder at a gaming shop tho in April and am hoping they will be able to deliver them on release.

I might have been ok with the show if I had seen it, grmpf, I had fallen asleep 35 minutes before it started! Awesome!
Anyway, I saw the trailers and it was ok, kinda hope for some more new games and GOW 2 only the title and it has to release in a year already? Even Halo looked further along....

I'm also not a fan of the flip flopping Sony have done with the generations thing. With Spidey: MM I could still understand it, plus they then stop the console warring of 'it's just an expansion, it could've worked on ps4' stuff, but with Horizon 2 I am really surprised and a little miffed. There was some interview with a dev from Guerilla Games where they said that the were held back by the hard disk of the PS4, they couldn't add flying for instance they said. And now we learn that Horizon 2 will still be held back by the PS4 and not be a next gen game. I mean, WHAT????

Of course immediately everyone gets 'concerned' about all the other announced games if they will come to PS4 or not, like GOW2.

They could've done this in a much smarter way.

Plus I had expected to see at least a bit of the UI. We still haven't seen that, we don't even know what that new share button does. The thing releases in 2 months! It's getting a bit infuriating to say the least.

And then not sure being able to get one on release is bumming me out to no end (I have my reasons to be extra bummed out if I don't get it at release as some of you know). Add that all the forums I tend to watch exploding with many pages of ehhh things I tend to not be all that active here!

But, there's a new update out for Boundless, now have my own private lil planet! heheh

If these numbers are true, that means that

these numbers are of course very disappointing and a million miles away from what cerny said.

This. I mean we can see the games and their quality and people still have the need to sow doubt. I don't get it...

Until we see the XBsX we'll not know how super awesome it is but the PS5 is right there up on the screen. I'd be more concerned with why MS appear to be holding back on showing anything. The hypothisis that they're waiting to show all these awesome games next week? Really? That doesn't stack up to me. I'm not saying they'll have nothing to show. Surely the machine is what we all suspect (slightly more powerful than the PS5). However, why wait until the week before pre-orders to show something? After the Halo delay they're clearly scrambling...

There are no "smartshift profiles". As per the "Road to PS5": Smartshift is there to automatically shifting unused power reserves from the CPU to the GPU, never the other way around. Also there is no profile for the 2.23Ghz GPU clock. This alone makes the tweets info wrong.

There were fixed performance profiles in the dev kits, but I suppose these were for the non-final versions and nowhere as aggressive. These frequencies make no sense even when looking at the 1 year older comparable PC parts. As per Eurogamer:

"Regarding locked profiles, we support those on our dev kits, it can be helpful not to have variable clocks when optimising. Released PS5 games always get boosted frequencies so that they can take advantage of the additional power," explains Cerny.

These numbers are not true.

Power to clock frequency do not scale linearly, and in particular, the GPU and CPU scale very differently - the implied ratios suggest the same scaling, which doesn't make sense.

Thank you for emphasizing how ridiculous the claim is.

No it wouldn't mean these things.

If the profiles are real.. then those are modes you can test it... that's all that it means.

The performance isn't always the same, it's workload based. The point of profiles is to lock the parts to see how code would perform at those states. It suggests there might be WORKLOADS that cause these kinds of wide variations, not that all workloads cause it.

Or they could be totally BS anyways.. since... twitter.

I just hope it's fucking misunderstanding. Terrible move otherwise.
I think that the article is accurate. I read that the spiderman game included in the Miles Morales version, has visual upgrades, performance upgrades and more suits, so they're charging for it ( so logically even for those of us who own the original on ps4 ).

You're likely correct. When trying to optimise code, having the clocks dynamically change on you makes it far, far more difficult. Have fixed profiles means you can make minute changes and see the affect.

Mobile phones have dynamic clocks with the aim of balancing performance with battery drain. Changing/optimising code can mean the OS just changes things up (reduce clocks down further to save battery).

There is no "if this is true". Its patently false.

Saying shit like "If this is true [blah blah blah] disappointing" lends more credence to this abject horseshit than it deserves.

What did cerny say about the scaling? Did he give any examples?

He specifically stated that modulating frequency by a few percent is enough to keep it within the targeted power envelope.

Which, if anyone has actually seen a voltage frequency curve, will know is fact.

Spreading Smartshift FUD in a week when Demons Souls becomes the first game to achieve Deep Down fidelity in real time.

Great!
Sorry , it looked like a remaster all the way , albeit a good one . But nothing like the UE5 demo which is the base line for next - gen imo .
