Hype over 9999 x 15 = Omnislash!

Red XIII

RNonaln.jpg

He has red fur, sharp claws and a flaming tail—but Red XIII is no mindless beast. In fact, he’s as intelligent and well-spoken as any human.

In Final Fantasy VII Remake he’s in… well, let’s just call it a tough spot. He has been captured and used as a test subject by Shinra scientist Hojo.

Professor Hojo (voiced by Shigeru Chiba in Japanese)

VKfJivh.jpg

The Director of Shinra’s Research and Development Division is not a man bound by common ethics or morality. If his experiments require him to take a life, he will do so without hesitation.
His scientific acumen is undeniably impressive—in a previous collaborative role, he performed special surgery on soldiers to increase their physical strength. In doing so, he helped birth Shinra’s elite SOLDIER unit.

Battle Introduction: Tifa

Tifa Lockhart—she is a brave member of the anti-Shinra group Avalanche, a loyal friend and the owner of the best bar in the Sector 7 slums (just ask Wedge).
She is also a powerful warrior who takes down opponents with fast strikes with just her fists and feet. In battle, Tifa is a swift fighter—repeated presses of the Square button will let her perform quick combos.
She also has a powerful unique ability—press the Triangle button after a combo, and she will release some powerful moves.

—Whirling Uppercut: A powerful upwards strike that will send a foe soaring.

—Omnistrike: Tifa slams into the enemy with a brutal shoulder barge.

—Rise and Fall: After waves of kicks, Tifa finishes with a powerful blow from her fist

Tifa’s Battle Abilities

In Final Fantasy VII Remake, attacking enemies will fill your ATB bar. When it is full, you can use it to launch a special ability.
We’ve previously seen some of Aerith’s moves, but what does Tifa bring to the party?

—True Strike: Hits an enemy directly in front of her.

—Dive Kick: A high-power mid-air kick.

■ Materia and Weapons

Healing Materia

Healing Materia lets you use healing spells like Cure and Cura. In the shot above, Aerith’s using Regen – a spell that gradually heals a target for a set time.

Deadly Dodge Materia

Deadly Dodge Materia lets you turn any attack after evading into a powerful melee strike. We can see Cloud using it above – although any character can equip it too.

Nail Bat

Nail Bat! One of the most fondly-remembered weapons from the original game is reimagined in glorious style. As the screenshot shows, when you equip a new weapon, your character’s appearance will change in and out of battle.

■ Mercenary Quests

Citizens and merchants across Midgar will ask Cloud for help. As a jack of all trades, Cloud will help them with these quests, which could be anything from taking down some troublesome monsters to helping find lost cats.

Sector 7 Slums Quest
This quest tasks Cloud with taking care of some Drakes. If he completes it, he’ll be well rewarded.

■ Battle Report

Chadley
(voiced by Shuuichirou Umeda in Japanese)

ZSS3v3F.jpg

A 15 year-old research trainee who works under Professor Hojo. You will find him in the Sector 7 slums, where he researches new types of Materia—if Cloud helps out, he’ll develop and sell Materia for the team.
Battle Report quests are available from Chadley. He will request that you complete various requirements, such as using Assess Materia a certain number of times, or defeating enemies in a specific way. Complete these tasks, and he’ll develop more Materia that you can purchase.

■ Summons

Summons are a powerful type of Materia. Equip one to a character, and they’ll be able to bring a powerful ally into battle.

Chocobo Chick

x8aWsqe.jpg

This is Chocobo Chick. We know what you’re thinking: d’awww, adorable, right? How could something so cute and fluffy be dangerous?
Don’t be fooled—Chocobo Chick is plenty powerful, and will assault your foes with powerful attacks. It’s included when you preorder any edition of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Carbuncle

cevjdlL.jpg

Carbuncle is a mystical creature with a ruby attached to its forehead. It gives power to allies with the shining gem. This summon is included with preorders of the Digital Deluxe Edition from the PlayStation Store.

Cactuar

EcmUfnr.jpg

Cactuar is a true icon of the Final Fantasy series. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, this summon uses incredibly powerful needle attacks while always keeping that trademark vacant expression. You will get Cactuar when you preorder the Deluxe Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, or 1st Class Editions of the game.

■ Environments

Final Fantasy VII Remake reimagines iconic Midgar locations, but also expands them to feature brand new areas that weren’t in the original game.

Mako Reactor

TfVqigf.jpg

This Mako Reactor sucks out Mako from the core of the planet. The Shinra Electric Power Company turns it into electricity or liquid gas for cities, to produce Materia and for other scientific research.
Shinra has a total monopoly on the resource, and has built several reactors around the world. That said, the safety of these structures has been questioned, as there have been confirmed accidents in remote locations.

Corkscrew Tunnel

aIo1KOn.jpg

The Corkscrew Tunnel connects the streets of the slums beneath Midgar’s plate, to the living areas on top.
The tunnel coils upwards in a giant corkscrew through the centre of Midgar, and anyone who rides the train are is ID checked.
If an unauthorised intruder is discovered, they are dealt with harshly and quickly.

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
I've never played past Midgar in FF7 and even I'm really excited for FF7 fans, this looks fantastic as a re-imagining.

So were is this game going to end at,will it be leaving Midgard?

No-one knows. Does "that thing" happen like halfway through the original game? Seems like that'd be a good place to finish part 1 off.

What thing? Are you talking about the part where Snape says he is Luke's father while sledding down the hill on Rosebud?

No, the part where Bruce Willis was a ghost.

Maybe we'll visit some of the more natural landscapes close to the city.

The image shows some pieces and garbage, it might be that some areas of the slums shows natural light this time, like around the edges of the city limits (in the original, you can see the fence and gate into the city slums and it shows some natural light).

You're not completely off, Crisis Core was a prequel and FF7 is the sequel, so yeah this Remake could be considered a sequel to Crisis Core minus the gayness of Genesis.

Yea, but also in terms of graphical style, combat, gameplay systems, sidequests, it really does look like FF7 Crisis Core 2.

Doesn't really look like a PS4 game but the perfect game to sell on both the PS4 incomplete and then complete on PS5 with even more orgasmic visual upgrades

damn that is an amazing OP. these screenshots look so good.

Tifa's move are pretty awesome. here's hoping Dolphin Blow makes it in.

Nothing wrong with that, Crisis Core was a great game, I had my gripes with Genesis, but other than that it was a great expansion to Zack's chapter, so in my eyes if this remake is episode 1 then Crisis Core is episode 0, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Everything except the weird quest system and summons looks great. Cactar looks fine though.

I wonder how far we'll get to go outside the city...

Hmm if anything the quest menu gives me hope that the quests have a bit more meat on them than just pure FF12/15 monster hunts.
I'm just not into the aesthetic and the quests themselves bring to mind basic fetch quests with big waypoints telling me what to do.

I hope I'm wrong though. This game looks fuckin awesome regardless.

I do not like the look of those sidequests AT ALL. Just looking at that menu and what they're asking makes me imagine being bored to fucking tears.

Sidequests can be a cool way to further develop or add more life to Midgar. Looking at them, we have at least a new character related to Hojo and some background stuff related to rats and factories. Depending on how they turn out, they may give greater insight to what is the daily life of your average Midgar's citizen.

Of course, you'll still have to hunt 7x rats, 3x beast and 5x whatever in the meanwhile. If that is boring or not depends on whether or not the optional battles make good use of the battle system, which should happen if Square makes them challenging. This is one of the hightlights of sideboss hunting in FF12-15.

So, the first quest introduces us to Chadley, which in turn introduces us to Battle Intel, huh? That's a sidequest within a sidequest. The perfectionist in me will drool to try to complete as many things as possible before advancing the story, especially (hopefully) if they get challenging.

I find it interesting how HP / MP recovery is part of a quest's reward. Makes me think that there won't be easy ways to heal your party? Or maybe that quest is available inbetween a mission with no inn available?
