A new Assassin's Creed comic series will offer hints at the future of the franchise beyond this year's pirate-themed entry, Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

The India-set adventure, named Assassin's Creed: Brahman, will star a new present day assassin and include flashback scenes to the 1800s, when Britain ruled the region.

"We wanted to do something different - tell a type of story never before seen in the Assassin's Creed universe - and touch on corners of the brand not yet explored by the video games," Brahman writer Brenden Fletcher explained in an interview published on Ubisoft's UbiArt site.

"Brahman answers a lot of questions and opens a ton of new doors. Fans who want to know what the future holds for Assassin's Creed beyond Back Flag would be advised to give it a read! Hint! Hint!"

Black Flag will round off the narrative arc of the Kenways, begun in last year's AC3. Beyond that, we know that Ubisoft is already working on the 2014 Assassin's Creed, which series co-creator Jade Raymond's Ubisoft Toronto studio is helping develop.

Brahman is being developed by Karl Kerlsch and Cameron Stewart, co-creators of the Russian Revolution-set comics Assassin's Creed: The Fall and The Chain.

The new historical assassin star is Arbaaz Mir, who must "face down a foe who subjugated his land and people" - a Brit, perhaps? - "who's now in possession of an artefact that may be a very powerful Piece of Eden". The story will also follow his modern day descendant Jot Soora, who now works as a programmer at Templar-run company Abstergo.

Ubisoft has released a few sample pages which culminate in a bushy-moustached Brit meeting the sharp end of Mir's dagger. Boo.

Art work of the story's Assassin (thanks ArtHands):

Waiting for Assassin's creed Japan, Assassin's creed China, Assassin's creed London and Assassin's Creed WWI and we can officially retire the franchise.

I'm beginning to feel like there are some people who have I'll feelings towards the UK at Ubisoft

Cool setting but after AC3 I have literally no hope at all that they can deal with it in a meaningful and sensitive way

Comics aren't really anything to go by when it comes to the games
We had a japanese and russian comic, but no games set in those times.

Also how does Desmond have so many fucking ancestors from different countries. It's magic

As an Indian myself its cool to see this guy. Its good to see more representation. I'll never forget going through KOTOR with a Filipino face because that was the closest to Middle Eastern/South Asian (though in KOTOR II they had a face just like mine). With that said I know there is no chance he'll star in his own game. Also the title of Brahman for a comic book just makes me think of Batman, probably intentional.

For all the people saying this is too close to Prince of Persia you really have no idea how extremely different the cultures are. People suggesting China or Japan are forgetting that there are plenty of games in those settings. But suggest one set India. While it won't happen it is a much more original setting.

It's a very cool setting, much better than the American revolution. I don't think Ubi is going to deliver a good game, though. At this point, they'll just switch characters and recycle the same game over and over, but I'm fine with that as long as I like the setting (and it's bargain bin price).

It is simple: They are not Desmond ancestors! Only main AC games are related to Desmond, in comics we have other Animus subjects. Desmond was Subject 17.

Nah dude. Truth is our British ancestors were actually total shits. So i couldn't blame them really.

India under british rule for the next AC game though would be spectacular.

How could anyone sympathize with the British Raj? The brits were fucking shitheads during occupation.

Of course they were total shits, I don't deny it. Just that this is the second (I think third, Kenway kills British soldiers in Black Flag?) where the principal enemies have been British. It's not as though they were the only European empire at the time that had questionable ethical standards wrt their colonies.

Actually I don't think it's people at Ubi, it's the fact that they have to flog them to Americans, who presumably respond better to moustache-twirling Brits as enemies than they do to other European powers.

It's not really a complaint anyway. I'm under no illusions about how cruddy the British Empire was, I just think it's noteworthy that they've become the series' go-to baddies.

I'm not sure how you got that I think they should sympathise with the British out of what I said? I'm aware that the British empire was awful.

Omg I could play with my ancestors

Judging by Assassins Creed 3 you'll spend more time watching your ancestors lol new character and location = shit load of time trying to explain everything... Does anyone still care about the story? Does Ubisoft have an ending to this convoluted mess? Will the comic have an answer for that?

I really wanted the French Revolution with some of the Assassins Creed 3 people (Jefferson, Franklin etc) making cameos.

British Raj is fairly cool though.

Well I guess if they are going to milk that franchise, hopefully they do use this setting which would definitely be a nice change of pace.

After the way 3 ended? No thank you, Ubisoft. I'm done with "metaplots" since it's obvious you have no plans for them.

Is the jump to this being the setting of the next game entirely Eurogamer? There seems to be no indication this setting will make it a game.
