The whole movie is a mess, unwatchable. Turned it off after 25 mins or so. I like Luc Besson's works, but this is some seriously bad movie from him. Watch Leon the Pro, Taken, Anne, Nikita, Banlieue 13, Unleashed, Kiss of The Dragon, Wasabi instead.Which one? The ratio? The child abuse? The movie?

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
I feel like this series is loosing steam, and they are running out of ideas. The film is easy to follow, but the middle section is slow and boring, and the final act is just endless destruction of buildings. Kaiju battles are still well done, but the CGI can be a bit iffy at times.
There is also this strange lens effect, where the picture is sharp at the center, but very blurry on the edges. It stops around halfway through the film, but it was very distracting when it was there

Based on the life of Congresswoman and one time presidential candidate, Shirley Chisholm. Directed by and starring Regina King.
It showed me some history I wasn't aware of. It was gripping, powerful and saddening... And yet hopeful. The kind of dramatic biopic i love watching! In some ways it reminded me of Lean On Me, itself a biopic of Joe Clark and East Side High School

The only question I guess there is, is how much Acid, Heroin and Cocaine the entire staff was doing inbetween takes here.
Of course Hollywood with all their sex obsessed pedos would shower this trash with awards. Up until the very end I was hoping there is a point to all of this that I am missing.... there ain't.

300 - Rise of an Empire
I thought this was going to be a cheesy and quick sequel, but I ended up enjoying it more than it's predecessor. I'm still not a huge fan of it, as the story beats are exactly the same, and it always feels weird when you make a sequel, but insert the story in the middle of the original film. The cinematography was miles better this time around, where it did not look as fake as before, and actually has more realistic look to it, colors and all. I don't I'll ever watch these again, but at least I got something out of it.

What in God's name did I just watch.
I could only get about halfway through it until the character that looks like Golum from The Lord of The Rings (hairy balls dangling in full view of the camera) starts crawling on all fours towards and away from a naked Emma Stone doing a muffin spread to the Gods.
At this point I had to fully NOPE outta the movie. This distrubed me in so many ways. I almost feel I need a memory wipe. Both my partner and I kept repeating 'WTF is this!!!' Throughout. She had the ability to finish it. I got up and went to log on to my PC to play video games. Visually the movie is quiet unique but that's about it that I found appealing of this abomination.

Nah its not Mark. The acting is pretty good. There were some other characters involved that got a 'piece'. I Don't even want to think about it. My brain needs a cleanse.

Agreed, it doesn't completely nail the ending but that wasn't enough to detract from the experience.
It's like Voltaire's Candide from a girl's perspective crossed with Frankenstein, and the visual design of Mood Indigo on steroids, plus a ton of very good humor and dirty brothel sex. Can't go wrong!

Its visually amazing, don't get me wrong. The acting is top notch and the story was interesting. I just couldn't get over the gore and fucking. Some scenes were hard to stomach and look like they went and recruited the worst from Skid Row to do the sex scenes.
The dirty brothel sex was a bit too much IMO. The dude that looked like gollum was the final straw for me.

Don’t let your curiosity overwhelm you. It’s pseudo artistic trash. Only got traction because the people who made it are well known. Literally anyone else making the exact same movie would have doomed it to some weird movie subculture you don’t want to be associated with.

One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. A C-level straight to DVD creature feature. Bad action scenes. Weak plot and characters. No suspense. Adam Driver is terrible as an action hero. I don't get what people see in this actor. He's so uncharismatic and one note. The movie was only 90 minutes but I could barely manage it through it. Watched the clock several times. Just awful. Ugh.

Planet of the Apes (1968)
Since the new film is coming soon, and I found the Primal Collection Blu-Ray box for relatively cheap, I thought maybe I should rewatch these films. It has been over 10 years since I last watched them anyway. Released in 1968, there are no real visual effects, but the ape makeup still works surprisingly well. It lasts for almost 2 hours, and is quite talkative, and moves slow, but other than that, it is a well done, and fun to watch scifi from over 55 years ago. I don't remember much from the sequels, but since they were mass produced, with each new film having a smaller budget than it's predecessor, those probably did not stand the test of time at all. This one's not perfect either, but it was done by enthusiastic and clever people, and it shows.

Had a bit of free time to watch some stuff over the last two or three weeks. The highlights were:
Hanover Street (1979) - Romantic slash action WW2 movie that H. Ford did in between New Hope and ESB.
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969) - Pretty funny satire of upper middle class embracing counterculture in the late 60's. Baumbach is most likely a fan. It's funny to see Elliot Gould playing a square for once.
Revenge (1990) - Not the botched shorter director's cut that is more available on home video. Theatrical version rocks - lot slower and there the whole sad, cruel misery aspect of it works so much better.
Dune: Part Two (2024) - Harkonnen soldiers floating up the rock is my 'imprinted in my memory forever' visual of the year.
The Heroic Trio (1993) - I was in a shitty mood but that 4k criterion restoration and these three amazing women cured me.
The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears (2013) - Uses Giallo (especially Argento) visual language to tell brain-melting and utterly exhausting avantgarde oddity. Not for people who watch movies for plots, but it blew my mind. Blocking, editing and sound design are top class.
One from the Heart (1981) - The movie that nearly ruined Coppola. His exploration of American Dream and artifice - a visual feast.
