About

Mortal Shell II is a standalone sequel to Mortal Shell that significantly expands on the original with unrestricted, adrenaline-charged combat, deeper weapon design with extensive upgrade options, and an emphasis on free exploration.

This action RPG offers an immersive, interconnected open world, expansive yet deliberately compact, designed to unfold its twisted landscapes and hidden structures while respecting the player's time.

Their Flesh is Your Weapon

The dormant forms of forgotten warriors are scattered throughout Mortal Shell II's shattered world. Once discovered, each Shell can be awakened and possessed, unlocking their innate strengths and unique abilities.

Evolve your own style of combat by harnessing the diverse unique abilities of each Shell, and unravel their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.

Cleanse a Ravaged World

Mortal Shell II's compact open-world connects over winding footpaths guarded by the desperate and fanatical. Those who wander are rewarded with new story elements, Shells, powerful and strange weaponry, upgrades, curiosities and more.

Step through derelict temples of ancient deities, across forbidden forests and icy graves, into citadels carved from bone.

Scattered between these lost landmarks are more than 60 dungeons, each providing a formidable challenge to the talents and weaponry you have accrued on your way.

Dethrone False Gods

You are the Harbinger, a being prophesied to reclaim the blessed Undermether's stolen Ova from the daunting creatures that ruthlessly guard her unborn.

Mortal Shell II's combat system is agile yet grounded. Unrestricted by stamina, players exploit multiple tactics to shatter enemy posture and strike critically.

PlayStation 5 users can also pre-order the physical "Revered Edition," which includes the base game, SteelBook case, art book, fine art prints, and the pre-order bonus skins Obsidian and Skeletal Harbinger, all housed inside a collector's box.

I JUST got a phone notification about this game being available on the store. Not a bad spot for a release date.

The demo/beta/whatever was SO GOOD, I can't wait for this to release, especially since Lords of the Fallen II was delayed.

This team has had a pretty cool trajectory so far. The first game was very limited in scope and quite janky - as good as one could hope for (probably) as small budget and team. Perhaps too harsh, but it felt like it was straddling the line between indie and very impressive student project. I remember finding some alpha trailers from when I think it WAS an actual student project (I think).

The DLC is what finally elevated it for me, being this very idiosyncratic little rogue-like experienced nested within a janky souls-like (got all trophies for the base game and DLC).

This one seems like an exponential improvement then, in all aspects from visuals, art direction, game design (i haven't played the demo, so just going off trailers and reactions). Like truly a step from a functional and endearing prototype, to a fully formed indie soulslike. I hope it sticks the landing and that the team are able to carve out a nice niche for themselves.

Rotting Christ and now Paradise Lost - these dudes sure know their Metal...

Anyway, this looks as big as a jump as Lords of the Fallen (the shitty, PS4 release) to Lords of the Fallen (2023) quality wise, but, i'm burned out on Souls games, plus, i'll be on vacation at that time so...

This is gonna be my Xmas game

Day 1, beta was awesome and it's one of those rare sequels that improves on the previous title in every feasible way.

Sweet, the beta/demo felt good.

Now I've got two games to play in August, this and Beast of Reincarnation.

Really liked the first game and really really liked the beta for 2. I do appreciate the game is £40 and most of all, no Epic timed exclusive crap this time. I do hope the pace stays similar to the beta as I lost interest in the later Souls games when they felt like heavy endurance tests, which is not for me, personally.

I have to call it out again, but another game doing the whole "buy the more expensive edition and get 72 hours early access" is really shit. I absolutely hate that this nonsense has actually picked up pace since The Division 2 years ago.

This game deserves to go nuts with sales judging from the Beta. This is absolutely one of the great Soulslikes and it's releasing for $50??

Out of nowhere. Day fucking one.

Yeah the demo completely surprised me. I didn't get on with the first one at all, but this one feels so much better to play. Though I did think the last boss of the demo in the forest did feel a bit janky to fight.

I love the demo but I'm missing Dualsense feedback. Hitting enemies and parrying and not having any kind of reaction from the controller is a huge minus, compared to other games. That adds to the floaty feeling of the character. I hope they patch that.

The atmosphere is very well made, extremely creepy.

Already preordered Revered Edition as soon as it was available. My most anticipated game of 2026. Demo was an absolute banger. Love the gritty atmosphere, metal music and enemy design. Combat feels super weighty as well. They really did a leap in quality coming from MS1.

My most anticipated game of August. Seems like such a step up from the first one. And then there is also Sinking City 2, which I look forward to as well and at the start of september The Blood of Dawnwalker (my most anticipated game of the year, even more than GTA6, yes). There is just so much releasing the coming couple of weeks.

Yeah im really hyped for dawnwalker aswell and i liked the sinking city 2 demo, but its going into the backlog. So much shit coming out

PS5 Pro here :

The demo/beta is BIG - I'm already 4 hours in and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Having said that, for a game that's releasing in just two weeks, it has a couple of problems:

- Challenges/trials bug out, making them impossible to complete.

- Enemies occasionally spazz out, stop moving and/or you can sometimes walk right through them.

- Enemies randomly levitate, ending up about a meter above you on the Y axis.

- Heavy stutters during some spots

- The brightness levels feel off. Adjusting them makes the game either way too bright or way too dark. Maybe there's a lantern mechanic later on, but there's nothing like that in the demo.

- No rumble/haptic feedback. If there is any, I genuinely haven't noticed it.

- I really don't get the WASD/God of War-style movement. It makes the game feel clunky because pulling the stick backwards always makes your character backpedal instead of turning around.

- No stamina system, you can keep mashing the attack buttons

The art direction is OK. I love grimdark stuff, but this feels like it's trying WAY too hard and ends up coming across as a bit pretentious.

Graphics are just OK and it's the art direction that does the heavy lifting.

The ambient music is nice.

The story also seems to be the usual Dark Souls-style cryptic, mystical stuff and, again, it feels a little too try-hard for my taste.

Overall, I like it, but if it launches with the bugs I mentioned, it's going to be rough. These are the kinds of issues that should've been found months before release, not two weeks out. Hopefully this is an old build, because otherwise... yeah.

I'll pick it up once it drops to around €20. Frankly, I've had my fill of Soulslikes, and this is yet another one that doesn't do enough to stand out from the crowd.
