When you exclude platforms it hurts the game you're working on but we pledged to put them on GP day one and want to allow sony to put it on Psplus.........Phil, what

Tears in the rain
One thing that is nagging me, so somebody refresh my mind but didn't Phil say that he would want Game Pass on PS, and it's Sony that refused?

He's complaining about Sony buying exclusive content like Deathloop and Ghostwire...

And he thinks the right call is to just buy publishers AND engage in the same strategy you are complaining about?

it's not about "Securing content" and keeping it on Xbox (while also allowing it on Playstation). It's about engaging in the SAME, if NOT WORSE, tactics than Sony by taking massive games off rival platforms.

This guy is such a snake oil salesman

Phil YOU could have negotiated a deal for Starfield. You DID NOT have to buy Zenimax to get a deal for Starfield, you dunce!
Pete Hines spilled the beans yesterday that they were trying on multiple games.

Phil Spencer blaming Sony for Bethesda PS5 exclusives, but it was established yesterday that Bethesda was the one shopping their games for exclusivity.
Yep. And said MS was in on negotiations as well with them.

Starfield PS5 exclusive rumor true
That MS was also negotiating for. Why stop there?

FTC says AB titles, Phil Spencer says its simplistic to reduce it to one game and starts blaming Sony for Final Fantasy XVI
To be honest, that was a pretty good answer.

He’s speaking slowly and clearly and is trying his best to steer conversation away from CoD. Note the repetition of ‘market leader’ instead of Sony.

It's the same bullshit argument I've seen people on reee and twitter make each day since this acquisition has been announced smh.

Anyone else listening to this and feeling like we’re witnessing the turning point where Sarah Bond ascends to the top spot? Don’t know what she’d do for the Xbox brand but she was a lot more composed and succinct yesterday than Spencer is.

Spencer is being too vague and open, leaving him exposed for future lines of questioning. It’s almost like he’s having a hard time keeping everything straight, too many PR talking points in his head at once.

coming from the one who bought zenimax and made future bethesda titles exclusive it's a bit funny

As usual Phil is either dumb or playing intentionally dumb. There was little financial impetus for Square-Enix to bring FF XVI to Xbox Series, especially if a publisher like ABK were pressuring you to give them a bigger cut in revenue else they would've skipped your current-gen platforms! And that's for COD, an IP that actually sells well on Xbox (unlike Final Fantasy).

What have you been smoking?
Xbox isn't being vilified for making Starfield exclusive. They are being vilified for saying to regulators that they had no incentive to take Bethesda games away from Playstation in order to get approval and then doing the opposite of what they said.

Sony is not doing the same with studios they own because they have never made such promises and Bungie is still multiplatform and is going to release Marathon on Xbox.

Are you really comparing Bungie to Activision/King?!?
For fuck sake, drop the Xbox discord guidelines.
Comparing a 2bn company with a 67bn company??
If MS wasn't blocked from buying Zenimax for 7.5bn with lots of IPs why would Bungie be blocked for 2bn with a single IP? (2bn + 1bn for talent retention)

Sony became market leader BY CONSUMER CHOICE , there is nothing any regulator can do about that because there is nothing wrong or illegal with it.

How Sony became market leader has nothing to do with this case. As a consumer I did not choose to be unable to play Spiderman on my Xbox. I had to buy a PlayStation for that, cause Sony made it exclusive. When someone mandates they stop doing that, then they can mandate Microsoft to do the same... Making games exclusive to your platform is something all 3 players do. Whether you promoted 100 guys from your mail room to make that game, or bought 100 guys from a smaller studio and made them your own matters for nothing. There is nothing in this deal that threatens fair market competition.

Game Exclusivity, per Sony even, has nothing to do with this acquisition. Sony doesn't want the deal to go through cause they have their boots on MS's throat in the console space, and MS getting Activision might give Xbox a sliver of life. Everyone is pretending it's something else but it's not. Xbox is trying to be more competitive, Sony is trying to block them from getting more competitive, and everyone is acting like MS is the bad guy here.

That's saying a lot considering (IMO) Sarah got obliterated yesterday.
