They use VRS
How can the PS5 version have VRS when the PS5 RDNA 0.00001 GPU doesnt support it?

Will be really interesting to see if this causes a discrepancy between the Series and PS5 versions....

IF, and I emphasize IF, IF that is the case, things will heat up for sure.
MAYBE, and I emphasize MAYBE, MAYBE developers will use their own vrs solution.

Well that was logical, but people kept maintaining that they did but it just used a different name.
Which didn't make sense either since the Vulcan dudes mention VRS and mesh shaders all the time.

Software VRS is actually more flexible than hardware VRS.

End result should be a wash. The HW VRS will be more performant by 5-10% but will have more visual artifacts.

well I suppose this is confirmation that the PS5 does not support VRS.

Kinda of disagree. There isn't an unique way to do VRS and if an ex engineer reported something similar is inside the GE what change if it's not exactly the same VRS used by RDNA2 or MS? I think the big misconceptions around this matter it's the notion there is only a way to reach the VRS and mesh shaders enhancements, but we put the things in the wrong perspective, if I can say. You can achieve similar effects via hardware if you have a dedicated GE as ps5, or at least seems so hearing different sources

I think the big misconceptions around this matter it's there only a way to apply similar graphic features, when it's notorious is not true at all. VRS and mesh shaders are just terms, not necessarly it means ps5 can't support them, or at least hearing difference sources it seems there are similar alternative in the GE.
Looking forward to someone from Sony talking about VRS.

Seems to be the case hardware wise, if it had hardware support for it I don't know why a dev would use their own software version from last gen instead.

Will the same hold true for Mesh Shaders and SFS.

Interesting. So there is no hardware support for VRS then.
VRS maybe some new buzz word to you and a few others around here, but most modern game engines have used a form of it for many years! It is not a magic FPS wand! It requires both a software solution and the hardware to accelerate the process, both the PS5 and XS consoles have a method of accelerating the process quicker and more efficiently than the last gen. Results are and will be similar, as grandma-ma used to say 'there is more than 1 way to skin a cat'

Reconstructing 4k from 1080p renderer and using all low details like Control. This is a game that maxed out at Real 4k barelly reaches 60 on a 3090. It runs significantly worse on AMD hardware like a 6800XT. The new consoles being so weak for what they want to achieve (RT and 4k), there no chance for what they say
I also remember people saying Metro Last Light could never run at 1080p/60FPS on a Jaguar CPU (base PS4), but it did.

4A are gifted, and while the game won’t look nearly as good as a PC version running with 20GB of DDR6 VRAM on Ultra, it will still be extremely impressive given the specs of the systems, if 4A’s past ports are anything to go by.

Or maybe it will just hide behind some reconstruction technique.

That's fine. They still gotta have a base resolution. I will take that over pixel counts from DF and NX where they have no true way by means of software/hardware to benchmark the average resolution.

Well with some reconstruction methods it's almost impossible to detect the base resolution. Which is what happened with Digital Foundry and the UE5 tech demo.

Not if they're using Tier 2, which Series X supports and is used in Gears 5 on Series X and the DLC. I also think they updated it for Gears Tactics also? I can't remember. But Tier 2 won't have those same artifacts that Tier 1 VRS does.

ima be real, they should include a setting on Console to switch between RT lighting and RT reflections. IMO reflections are way more important but for some lighting might be more important. I bet the whole set of RT effects would completely slow down the consoles but at least a choise would be nice IMO

All of them are detectable including the one in Spiderman which DF could pixel count. That's a misconception. Alex said they couldn't pixel count the UE5 demo because there were no straight edges. Not only that the UE5 demo uses dynamic resolution on top of TAAU and averaged sub 1440p.

Metro Exodus - THE METRO EXODUS PC ENHANCED EDITION ANNOUNCED - Steam News (steampowered.com)
Today we’re ready to confirm another exciting project set to release this year – the Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition! Built for high-end PC hardware with Ray Tracing capable Nvidia and AMD GPUs and implementing DLSS 2.0 for the ultimate PC experience. Didn’t think Metro Exodus could look any better? Hold our vodka.

We also have an update on the PC Mac and Linux Versions that we know some of you have been patiently waiting for.

When Metro Exodus released two years ago, it was one of the first games to feature Ray Tracing (on high-end PC only) thanks to NVIDIA’s new RTX series of graphics cards, although we still utilized many more traditional rendering techniques for console and older PC graphics cards.
But with Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 consoles offering Ray Tracing support, we took the decision to radically overhaul our proprietary 4A Engine and realise our ambitions for a fully Ray Traced experience on next gen consoles and high-end PC.

We have built an all-new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline that brings a number of optimizations, upgrades, and new features to the Ray Traced Global Illumination and Emissive Lighting that we pioneered with the original release of Metro Exodus, as well as an upgraded implementation of our powerful Temporal Reconstruction technology to further boost resolution, visual detail and performance.

And we’ve pushed these enhancements to the limit to take advantage of the latest Ray Tracing capable GPU hardware from NVIDIA and AMD, to create the ultimate version for our PC enthusiast fans.

Introducing the Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition
For PC players, we’re taking advantage of our new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline and the latest GPU-capable hardware from NVIDIA and AMD to offer the ultimate Ray Traced experience – the Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition.

This upgrade is so extensive, it will require a Ray Tracing capable GPU as the minimum spec, and we will need to deliver this version as a separate product – it is not a simple ‘patch’ to the base game – instead it will be offered as an extra entitlement to all existing Metro Exodus PC players.

The PC Enhanced Edition will offer additional Ray Tracing features, including Advanced Ray Traced Reflections and support for DLSS 2.0 on NVIDIA hardware, which offers sharper image details and increased framerates and display resolutions. Applying the same philosophy as our Xbox and PlayStation upgrades, this PC Enhanced Edition will be FREE to all existing Metro Exodus owners on the Epic Games Store, Steam and GoG. You can expect the PC Enhanced Edition to release later this Spring.

Ok, now i might pick this up for PC.

Always appreciate it but not enough to pick it up, but with these RTX upgrades im keen.

ARTYOM! Game sucks ass. Laughable AI and everyone speaks through each other.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the game either. I honestly can’t remember a thing about it except being annoyed and frustrated and I kept thinking to myself “when does this get good?”, and a Forrest section with some stealth? And some weird requirements for the “good” ending? Yeah fuck this game lol.

Played Metro Exodus on Xbox one X like a year ago really enjoyed it. Can't wait to replay it when this patch comes out and I still have the DLC to play!
