Is it gonna be the same setup of "big villain invade city, city is filled with bad guys" like all their Spider-Man games?

At the very least, because of the games linear nature, they're free to explore multiple different locations and biomes, instead of an almost exact same copy of Manhatten for the 5th time.

I don't care about something as banal as the bangability of the characters. I'm more concerned that the cinematic violence animations are going to become repetitive after the first dozen times seeing them. I want to want this game but I probably won't buy until I can see some player feedback.

Looked great to me and at worse 8/10 based on the trailer.

10/10 for me would be allowing the player to go full silent mode (assassin)in most stages/levels to then build up to full action.
Think X-men on snes, mutant apocalypse with Logan scaling up walls using his claws.

I thought having a good looking female mercenary freezing in fear "Oh my God!" before getting brutally stabbed in the chest and face by the main character was.. rather bold.
Like God of War III bold.
I liked that bit, enemies should be terrified of fighting wolverine.

(NEW) VIOLENCE CUSTOMIZATION
  • (NEW) Violence Preset: Some, Full – Presets for a mix of different Dynamic Blood, Dismemberment, and Healing options
  • (NEW) Dynamic Blood – Toggles the visibility of blood from impacts during gameplay and cinematics
  • (NEW) Dismemberment – Toggles visibility of dismemberment in gameplay (no dismemberment) and cinematics (blurred)
  • (NEW) Visceral Healing – Toggles the level of physical damage displayed on Logan's body in gameplay and cinematics

yeah gameplay look even more basic than spidey, and the gore is not really the best, a lot of blood but barely any decapitation of vertical body slices or cutting limbs except maybe one robotic leg...

The good amount of blood and the good looking ragdoll are the best praise i have at the moment :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I mean if you are not crazy about the wolverine character, the game lose a lot of its selling points, the trailer really doesn't excel at anything for now.
nailed. as popular as some marvel characters've become, spidey will always be in a 'wholesome family entertainment' class of his own. this game's clearly directed at wolverine fans, so not nearly as inherently widely appealing...

…A top 5 most popular cartoon of all time that put Xmen on the map?

So popular that they brought it back 3 decades later due to extremely strong demand?

That poor choice?

The cartoon is literally the reason why people want Wolverine to wear the stupid yellow/blue suit over his superior Brown/Orange suit.

How about they stay consistent if it's the homage you say it's supposed to be?

Looks incredibly fun... But the setting / environment, that construction site looked terribly bland. Bad choice for the 1st official gameplay reveal.

Reminds me when CDPR began the marketing push with CP2077 and decided to focus all the gameplay demos on Pacifica, arguably the worst. most uninteresting place in the whole city.

Because they're clearly sourcing different looks from different media for outfits. Previously I brought up that Jean Gray's look is from X3 the movie. One could even argue Wolverine's main suit is directly referencing Deadpool and Wolverine (especially the mask and eyes). The Sentinel they briefly showed does not look like the traditional one.

They literally did this same exact thing with their Spiderman games. For example Doc Ock referenced the Spiderman 2 movie version moreso than the cartoon or comic.

My expectations from this game were that it would have THE BEST graphics we've ever seen for an X-Men game. The characters would all look better than any game released before it.

My what a sweet summer child I was.

So we're just going to ignore all the comments that amount to "that was shit" and selectively focus on the more detailed criticism? Not everything has to be viewed in such black-and-white terms.

I'm not talking about people who explain why they weren't impressed. Fair enough, that's what discussion forums are for. I'm talking about the large number of reactions after virtually every showcase that are little more than "shit," "boring," or "waste of time" with no substance behind them.

And this isn't about Sony. The same thing happens after Xbox, Nintendo, Summer Game Fest, or pretty much any gaming event. It's a gaming forum, yet a significant portion of the immediate reaction is always how terrible everything supposedly was.

The strange part is that some people seem to approach showcases looking for reasons to be disappointed rather than looking for things they might enjoy. Criticism is fine, but there's a difference between analysing what didn't work and reflexively declaring everything shit five minutes after the stream ends. Sometimes it feels like being unimpressed has become a personality trait in gaming communities.
Nothing that shown off was impressive. At all. It was already stuff we've known about for a long time, or they just showed off what is essentially the same tropey Sony gameplay we've seen for the past decade but with swapped characters/genders.

What was i supposed to be gushing over again?

Some parts of the video it looks like it's on rails, like a bunch of QTEs rather than actual mashing of buttons to get the actions flowing

And again, he can slice steel beams like a hot knife through butter, but these bunch of TEMU cyberpunk villains are able to withstand the same adamantium claws, they better have a good in-game explanation for that
To be honest most of the game seemed to be QTE auto-animated.

I love Wolverine Origins (2008 Ravensoft) but even it cant escape wolverines limitations. He only has claws, doesnt use gun, heals so fast that he is nearly invincible so this leads to natural very repepetive gameplay. I knew way before this trailer this would be the largest hurdle for insominac to overcome and was almost certain they wouldnt. It is what it is.

On a side note I also kinda think this issue extends to pretty much all the xmen. They just dont have enough variety of moves for there own solo games. They should really consider going the forgtotten realms demonstone route and have a hot key to switch between x-men on the fly so you can organize group dynamics during a fight if they ever make an x-men game.

Oh I see Debra Wilson is in this game too.

If I was her I wouldn't also mind to appear in almost all AAA games since 2019, but on the devs' side, I don't understand why they all go with her specifically. There is nothing more off-putting to see her characters as "yet another Debra Wilson performance".
It wouldnt be a big issue as much if the devs werent such woke pussies and maybe for once maned up and apprached her about changing her hair so she actually lookes different from all the other games that she is in. Dont get me started on how inapropriate some of the casting they have given her like here in wolverine where you have a 65 year old woman playing a young action hero.

Maybe because this is mostly a shallow gameplay slice, but I actually want to see some awesome scripted scenes and story in this game, so hopefully a normal trailer will appeal to me a lot more.

Basically the perfect X-Men game would just feel like reading an arc of the comics, fights sprinkled between engaging story, with tons of great shocks (main characters dying, switching sides, etc). I think X-Men '97 gets it right, mostly, and they are just speed running the comic arcs, but that's what I love about X-Men.

It may be that a solo Wolverine game is a lost cause though, you could be right, his kit kinda is broken and boring. It's his aura farming and disregard to play by the rules and his way or the highway attitude, along with his in-team fights (Charles Xavier, Cyclops, etc) that make his bits good.

And the OG theme. Where's the riffs from it, it's so good! The music really didn't catch my ear either in this gameplay footage.

Basically the game really needs to be 50% batshit insane twists and ridiculous fights between mutants and sentinels, and 50% plot, but plot that can at least give great one-liners every 5 minutes or less, another thing X-Men '97 had down.

"Most other nations don't allow a terrorist to be their leader."
"And yet, so many allow their leaders to be terrorists."

"We shall not spend our days wondering if we could have saved more."

"There is no love without sin... for love is best measured in what we forgive."
^ god damn, that's above average, actually good there

That's what I want. Kick-ass music, a few great one-liners every story bit, and super-epic action bits.

I don't like the blood. It looks too chunky. Why is that? It reminds me so much of the water droplets in A Bugs Life. Weird nitpick, but blood was everywhere, all the time, its hard to ignore. Other than that, I think its okay. Wolverine looks a bit psychotic going around gibbing people but I suppose that's the power fantasy.
Its not properly shaded and fhe metaball simulation for th liquid while impressive is low fidelity in density giving it a jelly like consistancy.

Also the cutscene are clearly using a higher fidelity (most likely precanned) simulation.

Full accessibility features below.

Full customization for gore.

Looks like dismemberment is in the game, they disabled it for the video/censorship

Hype + 1
This makes no sense. Why would they hide one of the best visual mechanics of the game?

Dismemberment would completely change the feel of this game, I hope it's true.
