Is Konami the most frustrating Company this gen?

pretty crazy a card game they released in the US 20 years ago is whats keeping them alive. They dont even know what to do with it either they made it overly complicated with all the summonings, then created rush duel as a side gig to simplifiy the game but they oversimplified it. and all a man wants to do is draw 2 cards with his pot of greed but they still have it banned.

2014 pendulum came out everyone including myself walked away from the game. 80% of released cards are unusable in new format due to being too slow of a strat and statistically you will lose every time to pendulum.
2020 they realize the game is fucked up but dont know how to fix it and make a completely separate card game called rush duel even after attempting a similar restrictive format as speed duel in 2018.
2022 both card games suck in their current state.

Im a huge Castlevania fan so yes. And before anyone says Bloodborne, I played it and loved it but I want real Castlevania.

Actually any of the remaining team that ever even touched the Akumajou Dracula series in any shape or form has left Konami. They were part of the IGA's team working with Bloodstained. Whatever shit Konami would put out in-house, unless contracted by Artplay, would probably be nothing like you'd want it to be, so a wish for a "real" Castlevania would be quite ambiguous. After Hagihara left the series, it hasn't really been Castlevania anymore. Once IGA took the reigns after SOTN, then it's been a couple of failure-level 3D games and remixes of SOTN.

If you ever get anything for that IP, look at it being a vs mashup of all Castlevania IPO's characters with NFTs in a pay-to-earn game for your mobile phones. And you'll like it.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
No.

Microsoft is when you consider the resources they have. They're inability to deliver a reasonably consistent release of first party games has been their big time achilles heel. The only thing that seems to be consistent with them is delays and when things FINALLY do get released (Halo Infinite) they seem to have issues that should have been fixed. Talk to me about the value of Gamepass all you want, but they've been in the game long enough such that they should have 2 major releases on Gamepass every single year, but their heavy hitters are constantly being delayed and suffering due to piss poor management. 343 Industries being the most obvious examples. I see a lot of people "confident" that MS will turn it around. MS needs to show me first. They need more Rod Fergusson's running their studios and less Ken Levines.

I know I trigger a lot of people when I say this, but you can criticize Sony for a lot of things, but you can always count on them at have at least 2-3 major exclusives coming per year. They have their shit together in that regard. In other areas (especially communication) they such. This year they have HFW, The Last of Us remake, and (maybe) God of War.

It's completely stupid.

Old men at the board of directors not understanding how much money they could win by outsourcing, spending zero of their own money

The Phantom Pain came out in 2015, it's been too long since Konami had relevance for me to remotely care about them.

Actually, haven't there been rumours about them contracting out a Silent Hill game to Bloober Team? Seems like a bad idea but what are you gonna do.

No, hardly. You might not like that they've shifted their focus onto pachinkos and other casino games but the fact of the matter is that they are making money.

I highly doubt they'll make another big budget, high profile game again after what happened with MGSV.

lol you act like what they’re doing with pachinko machines is strategic and long lived. They have no actual vision. You’re not building new IPs from pachinko machines, what they’re doing is milking nostalgia. It’s a short lived strategy that makes money but ultimately will kill themselves. Making money indeed.

Who cares if they're making money? Indian scam call centres make money but I don't think that means we have to like them... if anything it's a sad testament to the state of things that actual art is of less value than gambling machines that are designed to extract money from brokebrains by blasting them with light and clinging coin sound effects

I think most of the pachinko players are old folk who haven't even played of a Castlevania or indeed an Akumajou... I imagine they use the old IP because it's easy to reuse existing stuff, it adds some sense of legitimacy to have a brand attached to it, and they figure they can attract at least some younger players

At least Konami had the sense to hire M2 for the TurboGrafx Mini and multiple of their collections. That's better than Capcom or Nintendo have done but not quite on par with the Sega Ages releases, also done by M2.

edit: Many of Konami's arcade games are also available via Hamster, also done better than Capcom's Arcade Stadium, save the lack of Steam versions.

I don't ask for much, just remaster all mgs games for current gen. Not even asking for remakes here, just easy access for everybody.

I'll always maintain that Dark Souls was pretty much how a 3D Castlevania was always supposed to be

Also which type of CV game, like SotN or the Original (I was gonna say 1-4 but 4 is a remake and 2 is a wildly different game)?

I would say it's 343 or Activision. In terms of Konami, they're like Sega. Used to be top tier, but for my tastes, they're a non factor now. The best they can do is compilations from the glory days.

SEGA at least do release good stuff like Judgement and Yakuza, and have arms that handle Total War and Football Manager, my biggest issue with SEGA is pretty much frustrations with SONIC team and SEGA JP never listening to the SEGA in the West despite Proven sales etc, 343i were never good, Halo hasn't been the same since Bungie left, and I loved Infinite

It’s hard to watch the downfall of Konami and metal gear because gamers care so much about the company and franchise. As a casual fan a metal gear solid and death stranding cross over would be cool, metal gear solid 6 would open eyes again.

Yes, yes it would, I would love to see a Remake of MG 1 and 2 at this point, done in the Decima or Fox engine would be perfect, MGSV still looks fantastic

Recently I had an urge to replay the Metal Gear Games and I've not found a decent way to do it outside of a PS3 (of which mine is a Launch one and really slowing down) and realised that Konami really is awful, I mean look at this:

  • No new MGS games since Survive
  • No New Castlevania games for a while
  • Super Bomberman R is pretty decent and there is a sequel
  • No remasters or remakes
    • On that point no outsourcing or allowing borrowing of their IP's
  • Or no easy way to play older titles unless they're in a Collection now (so wheres my MGS collection!)

My only other choice is Emulate them, I do own them all and tbh not opposed to emulating them (or playing the weird PC ports from GoG) but its just annoying

Koji Igarashi is gone. See Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night as the true SOTN successor.
Hideo Kojima is gone. Without him, Metal Gear is as good as dead.

Nothing for Konami expect for their Health Clubs in Japan and the Yu Gi Oh franchise.

Where have you been the past 5 years? Konami has nearly 0 in-house productions anymore, they ditched dedicated video games a long time ago. It's mostly mobage these days. All the console games bar Momotarou Dentetsu (already outsourced to Nintendo) and PES are made by outside contractors.

Until Kagemasa junior is out, they won't do anything above C scale games on consoles again. Which is never as the execs are all Kagemasa family tied.

Edit, holy shit this started already in 2015, so put that to 7 years...

Pretty sure OP is referring to PS4/X1 generation. For PS5/XS there is barely anything new to begin with...
