For me personally, there's just isn't enough "wow" games on switch besides BOTW,

What? that italian mascot with hat powers and regurgitated 2D segments from the 80s, with dull simplistic gameplay. Meh, same crowd just gets hyped for bloated aaa budget games like cyberpunk lol.

Metroid Prime 4 can eat it, for all I care.

Demand the games and exclusives. They're making bank right now. You're right to be upset if the schedule has massive gaps of quality fresh content.

I'm not attacking btw, the fact that you think it is makes you kind of a snowflake I guess.
And LOL they could always try nailing the monster design and maybe people would buy these "big publishers" games, they just can't and aren't capable of it. Look how western games style their games for example, ugly people left and right showing muh realism.

We had millions of Pokemon fans, from casual, hardcore to mentally ill ones, guess how much bitched about things on the internet. Low effort, low budgets etc. To maintain and grow a legacy you need effort not simply riding on it. Hilarious anecdotes from you who loves this low effort/low budget narrative.
I guess we just have different standards. You talk about basic game balance like Im supposed to be impressed by it while I think Nintendo and Game Freak with their billions in the bank should make a Pokemon game with a huge open world. With Pokemons roaming the world on their real scale. A great storyline would not hurt either.

Pokemon has huge potential but the fans are happy with scraps.

People so butt hurt over Nintendo’s success is cringe worthy.
I would have to say many games were probably delayed like a lot of other games from other companies due to the Wu Flu.
And those arguments made that they only make Kiddie games is hilarious when you can make a argument that all video games are ”kiddie” games.

The estimate is around 20m and as they point out the vast majority of recent sales will be the 2018 game, so unless you have data which says otherwise this is the best available evidence. Spiderman is reckoned to have sold around that much aswell. The suggestion that their games have a low ceiling and don't appeal to the masses is complete bullshit. We're talking some the best critically and user-reviewed, and highest selling games of the generation.
Around half of GOW 2018 sales were from free bundled of PS4 like what they did during the holidays season meanwhile Zelda BOTW sales mostly came from full price MSRP. Sony 1st party sales not even in the same tier as Nintendo.

GOW 2018 probably only made around 1/4 of total Zelda BOTW profits.

For example in NPD(dollar ranking) Zelda BOTW physical sales alone is higher than any playstation 1st party games with physical+digital sales.

Really ?
You are so much mature than I am :pie_eyeroll: GTFO with that garbage.
You sound like your 12 years old.
Only real men play COD right ? lol
Why is CoD always the go to example, lol? But yes CoD is also a lot more mature in tone than the vast majority of Nintendo releases.
How about you simply aknowledge that Nintendo aims their games at a very young demographic. No need to drag down the rest of the industry just because of your insecurity.

Why do people love Nintendo Direct so much and get so mad when there aren't any?

It's basically just a list of games that are coming out. Some are coming soon. Some are years away.

Same with E3 and TGA etc etc. It's just a list of games coming up and a dash of gameplay if you are lucky.

Look at something like Cyberpunk 2077. All hype and then a week after launch everyone is kind of over it. Except for those who are out there playing the game a lot and loving it.

If you like games then just go play some games. That's an area where there are no shortages.

"Damn, I really should work on clearing my backlog... GIVE ME MORE GAMES!"

Just the whole idea of having a backlog is dumb. As if gaming is a kind of job or something.

As I mentioned in the other thread. They are making money. Their fans are rabid and buy all this stuff.

They dont have an incentive to do it differently.

I'm really OK with that, but taking that shit online service in comparison with other companies is pathetic. Nintendo Online service is ages behind any other company. How can Nintendo fanboys even accept that service?

Its just like Pokemon game removing pokemons, content and increasing the price, people are OK with that so probably next Pokemon version will be less for more.

IMO Nintendo fanboys lost the right of whinning about Sony and Microsoft raising their next gen price. But hey, as soon as you make a critic about Nintendo someone will reply with Japan sales.

Good games are good games no matter the demographic .
Just because you think that’s all Nintendo makes shows how ignorant you are. Every platform has there share of “ kiddie” games and you are a fool if you don’t recognize that .
You can make a argument that Minecraft is a kids game but look how popular that is.
It‘s funny you say that Nintendo aims their games to the young when Sony is censoring the shit out of everything more than Nintendo. Your argument is very weak and full of BS.
The thread is about Nintendo’s game output not the maturity of the games they make, clearly you just hate Nintendo for no reason other than “ they make kids games and I’m too cool to play them “....lol

My WiiU gave me a lot more game time then the switch. I know the switch is a success but for me it’s been a failure. I still cannot understand why it’s doing so well. Everyone I know that has one never touches it. My niece and my son barely look at the thing and my niece just recently got it.

My favourite recently has been the way people reacted to Astrobot on PS5.

"Nintendo games are kiddy games.
Nintendo games are kiddy games.
Nintendo gam- oh my god have you played Astro's Playroom!?
It's the most fun I've had gaming in years!
Probably better than any Mario game? I think so."

Yeah, platformers are a lot of fun and sometimes a nice casual but creative and inventive experience is fun too. Well done on working it out.

It is almost like that all this success that put Nintendo again on top somewhat hinders the fun that people can have with other systems.

Most of the things "gamers" complain about something Nintendo, the reality is that most people don't care.

Regarding their full price games, people don't spend too much on games so they don't care anyway.

Regarding Wii U ports, even most gamers didn't have a Wii U so are new releases for most of us.

Also, some here are mentioning it's been a bad year for Nintendo. Sorry for telling you this but even on development front, Nintendo has had a very productive year, it's just that these game are not for you, like Animal Crossing, that Tabletop game, Pokemon Mistery Dungeon remake, Mario Kart Home Circuit, etc.

After Gamecube I kinda gave up on Nintendo ever really doing something that would make 100% sense to me.

For example: you create an amazing looking Zelda game, but then don't give people any way to play it at something better than 900p and 30fps. A TV only Switch would have been easy money, but nope.

Because their fans will keep buying remakes and ports over and over again. And at full price too even if its years old. Meanwhile years later Sony and MS are selling their games for $10.

Yeah, about that...

I know you will mention the price point, but games prices are set to what people want to pay for them.

Like ps5 games will cost 80 euro.

Exactly this.

Animal Crossing is this mega success because the game reached much more people than the "kids".
It's not Nintendo's fault that PS4 exclusives doesn't have this kind of power. Also, Animal Crossing being a success doesn't mean that one can't have fun with PS games at all.

If Sony could produce an Animal Crossing level experience then they would. Really it's that simple. No gaming company in their right mind is leaving that kind of money on the table.

Not talking about gameplay here since it's not my kind of game and I haven't played it.
Talking about the cultural impact the way it obviously reaches out to people and engages them and has them (again, kind of baffling to me) investing a lot of time into these fictional islands with all these little characters and sharing it with friends etc.

A lot of posters genuinely seem to believe that Sony is in the videogame business just because they want to make sure everyone is getting games on deep discount and making sure that everyone is getting some interactive narrative-driven storytelling in their lives.

If Sony could come up with a next gen exclusive that could do what Animal Crossing has done then they absolutely would.

so is Mario Odyssey but in different ways.

There are certainly valid criticisms of Mario Odyssey, but I've never felt it was 'low effort'.

The game is beautifully polished. The worlds are great, the soundtrack is stellar. And I think, more than any other 3D platformer, the moment to moment gameplay of moving Mario is without peer. It's sheer fun.

That said, I actually do prefer Mario games that are 'stage restricted'. So 3D World and Galaxy 2 are my favourites.

Meh. The online service is cheap. 20 bucks a year? Fuck, it's so cheap I don't even remember how much it cost me.
It gets the job done and doesn't break the bank. Easy decision.

It's interesting to me that gaming is probably one of the only areas in all my consumer activities where you can be labelled a "fanboy" for being willing to pay for, or *gasp* enjoy, a service or product.

Like sometimes when I go to the local shop they don't have what I wanted or there's a queue or the lady at the deli counter has fucked off for an hour. On top of that they overcharge on some stuff for sure.
If I decide to go back there because they are local or whatever reason my neighbors don't come round and start screeching about being a "fanboy" or "defending them" or other equally stupid shit.

Sometimes I like to order some food for delivery on the weekends when I can't be arsed to cook.
Once in a while they will fuck up the order.
Now, this is either so minor that I just eat it anyway or it's major enough that I have to phone them back and get them to sort it.
What doesn't happen is my wife starts berating me for being a "fanboy" of that particular restaurant.
Cos that would be fucking stupid.

Bars, Restaurants, Gas Stations, Movie Theaters, Supermarkets, Malls, Book shops. I have my preferred ones that I always go to and the service isn't always great but I get what I want at a price I am willing to pay so it's all good.

Do the same with videogames? "Reeeeeeeeeeeeeee! FANBOYS!"

Oh my god? Nintendo made some cardboard crafting thing for kids? OK. I don't really care.
Holy shit! Say it isn't so! Nintendo are making some video about a theme park attraction? Eeeeeh... OK? I guess? Not really my thing.

"Nintendo won't meet my Outrageous Demands!!! Anyone who doesn't care is just a blind anti-consumer fanboy who defends corporations!"

Mario Odyssey in itself is a very good game. I just feel that 3D Mario games maybe even 3D plattforms as a genre itself has stagnated a lot. Putting the whole blame on Nintendo is maybe not quite appropriate but they are at the same time at the forefront of this genre with not that much to show for it while getting overwhelmed praise. Production values are not too great either.

The cappy mechanic is fine but at the same time pretty random and easily replaced with something else. The next mario game could come with a magic tool to transform mario into a car and some people would go crazy with praise.

And I agree "restricted" mario games are better because you have more room for creating a creative element for each stage.

That's a valid point.

You do wonder how long 3D open world Mario will get away without any sort of shooting mechanic. In many ways, Splatoon actually delivers the really tight 'restricted' experience that 3D World and Galaxy did, although not to the same standard. Moving through the paint is a fantastic gameplay mechanic, but the jump is too basic, so the levels never *really* develop.

I actually think Sunshine did some really interesting stuff, with basic mechanics. It's just a shame that the levels themselves were a bit dull.

Our switch has been used for Mario Kart, but is otherwise one kid's Minecraft and Fortnite machine. The young ones just don't care about the first parties no matter how often I buy them games and tell them Zelda is the best game they could be playing. I don't know if its a generation thing or just my kids thing.

I dont think shooting mechanics are the way to go but I dont really have a extremly valid suggestion for a revitalisation of the genre other than to be very creative. Cappy and the level design in Odyssey are just not very creative imo.

If you cant come up with something great, at least have the production values be great, but thats the one area Nintendo refuses to budge the most.

I enjoy my Switch but think Nintendo as a company sucks ass.

The more people post sales numbers and profits, the more I want to bite something or someone. Great, I'm glad this asshole company is killing it. Can they then, in turn, throw their loyal fucking fans a bone every now and then? Would it kill them to have a REAL sale on their titles? Would it cut into their profits too much to improve their online platform to 2008 levels? Would it bankrupt the company to fix that piece of shit E shop that is just a showcase and bloat monster for shovelware? And for the love of Christ, could they take some of their wealth and invest in talent/Studios to produce more games? We are STILL playing Mario Kart 8, A Wii U game, and BOTW and Mario Odyssey have no sequel in site. Oh, we KNOW we'll get them when the Switch 2 comes out.

But yay, I can't wait for the Zelda Anniversary Collection where this incredibly successful company shits out some roms and charges us full price, while making it a limited release, so they can charge us again for the roms one by one.

It's been a shit year to be a Nintendo fan, no doubt, and overall I've found their output on Switch very underwhelming since the magical year in 2017.

However, I think things could be about to pick up again if they do release a new Switch model as rumoured.

Nintendo's consoles often follow the "tick-tock" pattern of new and underpowered machine followed by an evolution that has more power but is less successful. In almost all cases I prefer the output on the machine that's an evolution, where the game design comes before the gimmick.

NES->SNES
N64->Gamecube
Wii->Wii U
Switch-> ??

In almost all of the above transitions it's the first console that's the revolution, but the second console which adds power to the original idea that really brought the great games.

The Wii U, in particular, was unfairly maligned. When they realised the Wii casual audience had gone for good they knuckled down to produce the software that has established modern Nintendo's quality standard and has frankly carried the Switch. Genre-best games that pushed Nintendo to new quality heights like Mario Kart 8, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Smash 4 and Pikmin 3, new takes on old franchises like 3D World or Xenoblade X, new IPs like Splatoon and Captain Toad, fun throwbacks like NES Remix or Game and Wario and of course, the big daddy BotW (which was entirely a Wii U game that was delayed so that it wouldn't seem like a port on Switch, even though it was one.)

Anyway, the Wii U ports are drying up and a new Switch is apparently coming. They'll have to produce new games for this new machine. The relative drought of the past 3 years (2019 was okay, tbf) is almost over.

That's great, still not sure why you would enjoy paying higher prices though. Your opinion on GOW etc was a joke though, and I notice you didn't even challenge me not having played those games either. Fanboy rubbish.,

Unless you have any data to back this up it's meaningless words.

Also we've established that you're weird. You like being taxed hard by Nintendo, and you're more interested in game sales than game quality. I like having a wider, better, cheaper games library available to me.

I had a dream last night. I was participating in some sort of tournament about crafting some stuff hosted by the Kit and Krysta from Nintendo Minute. After some time I had enough of the BS and straight up yelled, "why are you just not giving people what they want, GAMES"

I believe this was a deep insight in my relationship with Nintendo right now. Nintendo milks their IPs like crazy, Lego Mario, AR Mario Kart, now that direct with the theme park, a ton of unnecessary tournaments and a lot more I'm forgetting. And of course all that copyright strikes do not leave Nintendo in a good light either.

But what everyone of course, really wants from them is games. What did we get in the second half of 2020? A Pikmin 3 Port, ROM dumps and a Hyrule Warriors, basically all super low effort and low budget stuff. They did that WHILE investing a ton in toys and I'm seriously tired of this direction. Games should always come first. When was the last time we had a full general direct, fans were begging for mind you? That was more than a year ago.

Now that theme park direct and again, the absence from them at the TGA (Smash is sooo milked right now and I couldn't care less) is the last middlefinger from them to the fanbase this year. Hopefully.

Seriously, I'm so tired of Nintendo. If BOTW2, Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 weren't in development right now, it would be a lot worse than the WiiU era and that says a lot. Atleast Iwata, Reggie and Miyamoto were sympathic faces of the company and made a ton of wholesome jokes, it was always a joy watching the directs even though game announcements sucked. But now? That Nintendo doesn't exist anymore.
I dont care if my opinión is controversial but since the death of Iwata.... Nintendo is now better than other years.

Im fine with under powered but I thought that by combining their console and portable lines, we would get twice as many games. It seems like we arent even getting as many games as the 3DS was getting.
You thought that because Nintendo said it would happen, yet it didn't. This is my frustration as well. I love Nintendo's output, but they said they'd be consolidating and streamlining development pipelines by combining portable and console, and that simply has not happened. I don't know why their out has dropped so much while their profits have soared, it just seems like such an odd thing.
