I broke my ankle last night, AMA

Yes, I was drunk. Yes, I had bad shoes for the weather. Yes, I'm a dumbass. But one bad slip, and next thing you know you're looking at surgery (which I haven't had yet, hopefully tomorrow), 6 weeks of jumping on one leg with the other in a cast, and a lot longer than that to fully recover.

I've never broken anything before, there's a first time for everything I guess. It sucks. Lying in a hospital bed is boring as hell. And it makes me feel old, lol. Like, who the hell slips and breaks their ankle in three places?

Do you exercise? It keeps the body strong and is pretty much required if you don't want to break random shit as you age.
Sprained my ankle with skateboarding a couple of times but I never broke them. That said, it hasn't happened since which tells me that I've gotten used to carrying my own weight.

Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse, but my almost 80-year-old mother broke her ankle a couple of years ago, had surgery, and recovered really quickly.

Ask for a walking cast/boot. She did and was up and around and walking a couple of days after surgery.

Do your physical therapy and you'll be fine.

It does, thanks!

same, never broken anything either.
i feel if i do now, in my old ass body, i get destroyed.

i remember other kids when I was one always breaking arms or whatever all the time, they heal up super fast, and were out of a cast like it wasn't even there.

Did they have to install hardware (plates, pins, screws, etc.)?

Ironically I passed on this bit of "old age" wisdom just a few days ago.

The underlying principle of everything is: "gravity is not your friend"

Yep. My transition from human into machine has begun.

How are the pain meds. And do you have a super hot Swedish nurse helping with your dingdong?

They are alright, but Swedish healthcare is pretty conservative with that stuff. Don't want a bunch of pain med addicts I guess. But I do get a little bit of morphine now and then.

Do you have anyone to help you while your temporary crippled?

Nobody who lives with me, but yeah, a bunch of people have offered to help with different things.

Yeah, if gravity hadn't been there this never would have happened!
