I'm curious in finding out about the video game spending habit of fellow GAFers so be sure to take a minute of your time and vote. If you'd also like to list your purchases that you've made so far this year you're more than welcome to do so.

I will add that everything you've spent on video games from January 1 2023 to present day counts so have that in mind before casting your vote!

Items which counts towards your video game spendings:

- Games digital or physical
- DLC, season passes and other digital game related stuff like MTX in F2P games
- Game subscriptions (Game Pass, PS+, NSO, EA Play, etc.)
- Special and Collectors Editions
- Gaming accessories controllers, headsets, etc.
- Consoles or PC gaming setups
- TVs and audio setups that are primarily used for console/PC gaming
- Video game figures and collectibles like amiibos or funko pops
- Other gaming merch

Thanks! :D

Bought an ROG Ally + XG Mobile for about 1.8k and then I have purchased games and accessories for at least another 700-800 dollars. So roughly 2.5k I think so far this year. Gonna cut back considerably on spending for the rest of the year and maybe next one. I have everything I need in terms of hardware and accessories, so all I need is a select few games on the horizon. Time to enjoy the things that you have.

Diablo 4 - 80€ - PC
FF16 - Bought and resold - 15€ - PS5
Wo-Long - 40€ - PC
Hogwarts - 25€ - PC

so 160€ all in all.

Nothing for hardware this year and I`ll probably not have to upgrade anything for the next ~2-3 years.

I´ll probably bargain-bin buy Jedi Survivor sometimes down the line if it ever gets patched to an acceptable state, and I´ll use the 1€ GP Trials for Starfield, so a very very cheap year gaming wise so far.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Out of pocket, between 100 and 200.

Continued GP sub, Reward points and renewing gamefly sub has allowed me the need to only buy 2~ games at full price since the start of the year.

Anybody that spends over $5000 on gaming is a big deal that thought makes you nervous let’s be honest people with subscriptions, passes, dlc, new games, game sales probably spend $200-300 a year and that’s not bashing gaming.

I had a genuine epiphany in 2023. I enjoy games just as much even if I don't buy them the year they come out. I've also dusted off some of my older games and have replayed games I haven't touched in years. As a result, this year I've picked up more games this year than I usually do by August, and have spent more time playing than I usually do. It's been a good year.

At least £2,000 or ~$2,500.

Upgraded my PC which was most of this. It came to around £1,600 but once I sold my older parts the actual cost was maybe around £1,300. The rest is on games.

Games I've bought this year (not a full list):

Persona 3 Portable (Switch)
Persona 4 Golden (Switch)
Dwarf Fortress
Disney Dreamlight (PC)
Diablo IV (PC)
Tears of the Kingdom
Baldur's Gate 3
Armored Core VI (PC)
Vampire Survivors (PC)
Hogwarts Legacy (PC)
Ready or Not

I've got more games to buy. Going to pick up Starfield, FC 24, Forza, Cities Skylines 2.

Last thing I bought was today and that was £30 worth of coins in Pokemon Go :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Lot of future proofing for me this year, so more expenditure than usual.

For my PS5, I extended my PS Premium to 2031. Bought a load of dirt cheap games off the PSN Turkey store. And last week bought a Series X with 3 years of GPU.

No chance of playing even half of all this shit, but it saves me from the FOMO and it's only money.

Spent most of my money on physical copies of retro games (😅 for some of those prices) plus some of the physical releases (mainly Switch) of the last few years.

On the other hand spending was light on modern games. BG3 was the only full priced game I got so far this year.
Overall - probably hit $1000 - $1200 or so? Will spend a bit more on Starfield, Cyberpunk expansion, Spider-Man 2, Warhammer Rogue Trader and maybe some DLCs for Paradox Strategy Games, Age of Wonder 4 and Pathfinder WoTR.

So probably will wrap the year with $1500 or so overall.

Well, this isn't counting my major PC upgrade this year (everything but GPU basically), but that's not just used for gaming.

Edit: I recently got into collecting for Japanese Saturn games and my god it's so much cheaper vs US/EU copies. Highly recommend it to folks with an interest in that library and especially if you have some understanding of Japanese.

Same for Dreamcast. I

It's so annoying that there is no physical P3/P4 collection on the Switch (or PS5). I think it would have sold well. Not even a Japanese / Asian copy to import.

Roughly guessing here, because I don't recall exact sales amount on a few games:

10 Switch games - $425:
Tears of the Kingdom
Pikmin 4
Fire Emblem Engage
Octopath Traveler II
Metroid Prime Remastered
Dragons Dogma
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered
Diablo II Remastered
Monster Hunter Stories 2
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox

$100 roughly on a bunch of 3DS games before eShop closure
$250 on a TurboGrafx 16 mini
$115 on PSP + SD card for softmodding and a battery
$575 on Dreamcast games (mostly through eBay) since I collect them physically
$85 on Raspberry Pi + necessary cabling for a DreamPi setup

Adding that all together $1552. Man that number is pretty rough to look at when you add it all together lol. God forbid if my wife ever saw that number. I think I need to slow down on my eBay bidding for sure.

Around $600 and that's only for games. I'm a patient gamer so almost everything is older and heavily discounted. Much of this is due to 'discovering' cdkeys this year and the Steam Deck. Average price is around $12/game. On one hand, life is very good. On the other, I acknowledge my addiction.

$5000+ club here.

Bought a lot of hardware and such this year. PS5, VR2, TV, computer desk and chair, another computer monitor, couple sd cards for my Deck, a docking station and plenty of great games this year too!

Under $500. Game Pass and Game Fly have been my goto for console games. Purchased Diablo 4 and Starfield for PC. Bought and resold some games like Hogwarts Legacy prior to getting on Gamefly. Bought DualSense Edge controller for $160.

Probably will end up being around $1000 on games by the end of the year, I buy almost all shmups in physical form. Some bangers coming out in Q4.

No hardware yet but I’m probably going to cave and get a series X & 3 months of gamepass in September

I’ll probably end the year around 2k

Nothing in hardware and 65€ on FF16 physical version, that i even got to play 1 day earlier.

And considering that all the games i was interested in purchasing this year day 1 (BG3 and Yakuza Gaiden) are digital only for the west, this will be my only purchase this year, unless i grab somehing during a promo.

I'll probably also renew my 1 year sub for PS+ Essentintial + Extra during that Black Friday promo, so that will be another 75€.

-New gaming PC ($2500)
-New gaming desk ($350)
-New games; including digital, physical and collector's editions. All were either Xbox Series X and PC, with one Switch game ($600)
-Retro gaming, including the new Atari 2600+ console ($500)

So rough total: $3,950

I have spent $10,000 on gaming this year.

I bought

a Corsair Vengeance I8200,

a Samsung OLED G9,

14TB external hard drive for my Steam library.

PS5,

Corsair 4TB SSD expansion for PS5,

I have every gaming subscription for the year.

Gamepass 3 years,

PS Plus Extra 1 year,

GeForce Now 6 months(I bought this before my new PC, no refunds),

Sennheiser 600s headphones for Audio,

$3000 gift subs to streamer Kyle Bosman,

$1000 tip to streamer Wetty (lead singer of my favorite band Closure in Moscow),

PSVR2 gift to my brother,

Steamdeck OLED 1TB gift to my Brother.

PS5 gift for parents + 4TB upgrade Corsair SSD. (They are on satellite internet)

And who knows how many games I bought /shrug

The hopelessness of owning a house has changed my spending habits this year significantly.

Pretty low this year even though I bough a lot of Nintendo games which were all full price, so I’m pretty happy with this.

Then again I’m planing to purchase a Ps5 Pro and “Switch 2” next year so it’ll even out. I’ve already put away $1600, now I’m just playing the waiting game.

PSVR2 alone cost me 1000 dollars here in my country, and considering that I buy on average 2-3 games a month across the three main consoles, I easily exceeded 2000 dollars this year.
