Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Here is some interesting point about wolverine this pic from today's trailer

It's clearly that this pic section from today's trailer is more polished but my problem with them if the game have good looking sections like the ones on first trailer or on last seconds of today's trailers then why showing that ps4 looking section today before starting pre-orders, there's something wrong with this bullshit
 
I wonder what's going on with Wolverine now that I think about that last minute, and the previous showing... Maybe they showed the ugliest part of the game and that's that? SM2 had many of those, and they were horrendous.
 
Decent showing from GOW. It's definitely a step up from Ragnarok, although not generational.

Wolverine is underwhelming, both technically and artistically. Insomniac has been pumping out games at a much faster clip than their peers, so I guess this is the trade off. Idk. I wish they weren't just the marvel guys. It has really killed my interest in their games.

Man I miss the gritty PS3 era.

game looks way better in cutscenes. same as death stranding 2 and tlou1.

007 inspired me to boot up Uncharted 4 and how in the actual fuck is this game 10 years old?

007 looks good but not being able to turn the HUD off is a travesty. Naughty Dog deserves so much credit for keeping their games almost entirely HUD free by default. The art direction is so much more free to flourish when there's not a bunch of bullshit covering up the screen.

I mean ...GOW 2018 treated the fantasy setting with a lot more respect and subtlety and was as a result a much more mature and grounded story
that opening scene turned what was told as a poignant story of pain and heartache into just a casual and lazy starting point for Faye's journey
I don't mind her story being more light-hearted but I wish they'd take their time with it

I stopped playing it until they release a patch. Absolutely egregious and immersion killing HUD for me.

Why the last minute clip looks far better than that gameplay they showed? Or they are not actual gameplay? I truly dissapointed

Every single shot you posted is either fixed camera finishers with the background completely blurred out by fancy depth of field or straight up cutscenes. Not one of them is free form gameplay.

The thing about baked lighting is you can even achieve path traced quality if you really want to, as long as nothing on screen changes. The more dynamic or unpredictable you make things, the more inconsistent or flat it looks. The wider the area rendered on screen, the flatter it looks. Naughty Dog and SSM are the kings of high quality bakes. Insomniac doesn't seem to be. They got away with cartoony looking games like R&C or simple indoor lighting setups along with shiny, reflective outdoors in Spiderman. None of that is in their favor here. Only thing holding this presentation together now is animations, which they excel at, along with sound and post processing.

The montage at the end had some gameplay shots too. They all look exactly like the poor gameplay showcase. Flat and straight from PS4 gen. At least the 2d explosion sprites aren't as low res as some of 007's effects.

There is no mystery here. What you see is what you will get. Decent to great looking cutscenes and outdated looking gameplay. It's actually shocking to see the game looking worse than Spiderman 2, despite not being open world. Heck, they couldn't even get gore right. It's hilarious looking red boba jelly all over the place with no proper understanding of viscosity or fluid dynamics. They are all balls gushing out, and then vanish to leave a trail-like texture. And then the trail itself vanishes like nothing happened.

Did they even consult with all the other PS studios that do gore properly? If not ND or SSM, even Sucker Punch did it better. They had some boba jelly too, especially Miike mode, but the sheer excess here makes it stick out so bad. None of this looks violent. It's like a parody of violence. Quantity without quality. Like a B-grade slasher flick.

To think they had Hellblade 2 as the target for rendering quality in their own internal presentation that leaked. Jesus Christ. All of this looked ok on the phone earlier today, but watching it on a 4k TV now, I can't articulate it better than this:

Yes 100% agree with you, but there is some good looking gameplay sequences on first trailer other than cutscenes ? Maybe they cherry picking as you said alongside good camera angles

There's always a handful of good spots where the baked lighting looks the best in each area. Those are always the spots they pick for trailers. The reality is the same lighting setup extends to a much larger area, which they won't show in trailers. Take tlou 2 for example. If you watch any trailer you'd think gameplay and cutscenes look totally indistinguishable from each other. But the moment you watch uncut footage or play the game, the difference is massive

They supposed to use rtgi which solve this problem (for example Faye clearly use it because gameplay and cutscenes are identical) , insomniac said after the trailer they take full advantage of ps5 but they don't truly dissapointed

Yeah, really starting to come around on this. The story running parallel to GOW 2018 is a lot more interesting than a prequel would've been.

The blog post mentioned incorporating Greek era gameplay elements as well. Hopefully that means GOW 3 style setpieces. A lot of potential here.

They might be pulling a Resident Evil Requiem and hiding playable Kratos as a twist. One leaker said that Kratos will be in the game wielding an Egyptian sword, and there wasn't any point in 2018 and Ragnarok where he used one, so it might cover events after Ragnarok, with Faye and Kratos working together.
 
I'm rewatching the wolverine gameplay. I actually think it looks great - am I tripping? Yeah it doesn't have that cg look really, but theres a lot to like - I think the blood and water might actually have fluid simulation - and the damage to wolverine and the enemies looks cool

I rewatched the gow and wolverine videos in 4k. Wolverine looks so disappointing and the cartoony insomniac character models just doesnt fit. I think the new gow looks superb, a clear jump from ragnarok. Faye's character model looks really good

It is a fact that it is not his game. There's a thread on it. Whether he is doing anything at all on his own is anybody's guess at this point 🤷‍♂️
SSM have said "Cory is the Head of Creative at Santa Monica Studio, this involves working with game directors like Ariel Lawrence and guiding the long-term vision for all games in the series."

This suggests he will no longer be a director of his "own" games.
 
I don't see any RTGI here (or any RT) - if there is one, it's probably on ghost of yotei "quality" settings.
Agreed, same of the shading looks so off, reminds me of the Temu implementation we saw on Yotei.

The gold standard for me was AC Shadows, on my current playthrough and the lighting is complete eye candy!
