Gothic Remake |OT| Return to the Colony

I played over 3 hours yesterday. Most modern gamers are not going to see this one through and stick it out. It starts difficult and slow cause you're a weak nobody. It's all by design. But you have to be willing to meet the game half way.

To me it's already starting to feel like the first real RPG I've ever played. It makes you think about what to say or not say. Everything has consequences.

But I did a few quests, I leveled up once, and I know where I can sleep. Things like that go a long way in this.

It's also worth noting it's a little more difficult to "exploit" the game to your favor when compared to the old Gothic game. While the mechanics are generally the same, you could easily become a God if you knew what you were doing in a few hours just by exploiting NPC AI. It feels much harder here, I don't think I've ever struggled this much for money or XP in Gothic 1 and I've finished the game like 10 times.

As an example, in the original game regarding sleep, you could just rush inside any house and when the owner would come to chase you away you could easily ignore him, sleep in his bed anyway and he would respawn in the morning outside the house with you not suffering any penalties. You can't do that here, if you try the owner will just wake you up in the middle of the night so it's important to find early where you can sleep.

Man the graphics look sick on PC using the 'experimental' settings. Super heavy though on gpu and cpu.

As others have said though, this very much is a old school rpg. Very hard, very little guidance, and very slow, at least at the start.

What Graphics Card and CPU do you have? I wonder what the differences are between experimental and High settings.

The game is good, I cant say its amazing because its a bit janky. Graphics are good for a double A game, I like not having any quest markers and having to figure out everything myself and I think in general the game is well done

That being said I got a hard crash on pc while playing it and I never had this happened before with any game so I think these guys need to work hard and patch the bugs

Gothic 1 classic was janky before the term janky was popular. But we loved it anyways.

Disagree, fatekeeper has better assets and it is more even because it's a small ass game.

But for an AA open world it look pretty great at times.

It's open world so to me it's more impressive than the levels in Fatekeeper. They have the benefit of being able to have static backgrounds. But yes, in screenshots Fate is the winner.

I don't remember the old game much but I did manage to get an adult scavenger to follow me into town and it killed a guard that I then looted. Got an expensive bow and sword. I leveled dex once and ranged is OP in this compared to sword combat. Peppering enemies and F5ing like no one's business lol. Playing on the hardest difficulty so doing what I have to.

Yea. I was gonna start luring animals to the guards at the south side. Didn't even think about a guard losing though.

The original game is one of the best RPGs of all time still and I have a sealed copy of it in my collection (the very first release in Russia by Snowball). But the price tag is insane for this remake, it should be at least 1,5 times less, but it's okay, I've played original game so many times back in early 2000s that I don't even need to play this Remake and will probably get it during deep sale at some point. Gothic 2 is miles better though, so I hope they'll remake it too AND STOP THERE cuz Gothic 3 is trash.

I rememer I bought the German copy of Night of the Raven for Gothic 2 and played with a fan made translation because it took ages to get translated to the England market.

This game is what people think kc2 is in term of rough start (challenge, lack of money, being beaten by everyone, and feeling like an absolute turd in pretty much everything).

People who had ANY problem with that one, is gonna throw the controller at the tv in the first 5 hours with this one i think :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Refreshing and old school and fun but nerve testing at times because jank is what make combat much worse for now, also, ALL the skills to learn are useful at the beginning so i have choice paralysis...not that i have the money to buy most of them anyway:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Explorations is very rewarded and well done, you can jank-climb a lot fo stuff that doesn't look climbable so always look up for points of interests folks.

G1 and G2 are some of the best balanced games I've ever played. You start off as a total pussy clubbing molerats and harvesting meatbugs and become Conan the Barbarian by the end game.

The most similar game i played is probably some old rpg i dont even remember but more recently, elex on max difficulty made by piranha bites, but this game is somehow harder because it has zero handholding and i swear the combat is even jankier but that one didn't had the same combat animations progression of this one, and resources were faaaaaar more abundant if you explore a bit.

this one is very stingy with money on hard for now.

Pro-tip: explore every body of water you find if you see wood boxes or skeletons.

This sounds incredibly punishing but rewarding, and that's right up my alley. My biggest gripe with KCD1-2 is actually that you're only weak and underpowered for a pretty short time in the game.
