GOG News and Updates 2011

You can (from memory). If you disable hardware scaling (I think?) in the ATI CCC it won't stretch... but it might keep it in a tiny window. Discovered that while trying to get the Sega Model 2 emulator working without stretching the display.
Nah the built in stuff like that is broken on certain connectors as are Nvidias (don't work with HDMI).

Yeah, Shogo is the fucking truth. Fast, colorful, rad weaponry. I'm loving it so far. <3 Monolith <3

Any tips on getting the mouse to be not fucked up in Fallout?

Right now it skips around a lot (almost like i have smoothing enabled) and never feels precise.

If you guys havent played Blood...you really should.

EDIT: Shogo plays just fine with current hardware right?

I remember you saying you were going to pick Blood up in another thread (the tired of shooters one? I think?) after I brought it up. I played it this year for the first time and I think it's the real deal. A godtier man shooter, straight up.

Anyway, Shogo runs perfectly fine. I had to rearrange buttons and whatnot, but you know.

Yeah a few changes to the control scheme and it's good to go.

...playing this is making me fiend for some nolf on gog. Damn lawyers and rights issues etc.

Goddamn. Just a heads up to anyone getting Freespace 1: the highest resolution on it is 640x480 and there doesn't seem to be a windowed option so the picture gets stretched and the overall quality looks rather bad.

There are several mods which port the FS1 campaign to Freespace 2, allowing you play it in higher resolutions and various texture packs.

How is Arcanum?

How does it play on modern machines/displays?
Still one of the best crpgs available on the PC. Runs perfectly well; and plays like a spiritual successor to Fallout, albeit with a steampunk theme.

Surprised at the number of people who've never played Shogo, it's one of my all-time favourites. The on-foot sections aren't great, but the mech weapons are awesome; the Bullgut is one of the greatest rocket launchers ever in any videogame. And that intro!

For Nvidia, try the 275.xx series drivers. They appear to have fixed all those problems.

Nice! They also have Shadow Warrior on there, too. I doubt they'd run out-of-the-box (so to speak) though. Good to know they're there.
Excepting Balls of Steel (which is a Win9x game so it might or might not work), they're all DOS games, so they'd just need DOSBox. I was playing some Shadow Warrior in DOSBox just a few days ago, runs fine.

Decided on:

Earthworm Jim 1 + 2
Earthworm Jim 3D
Shogo: Mobile Armor Division
Descent 3 + Expansion
Sacrifice
M.A.X. + M.A.X. 2

Descent 3 is the only one I remember anything about. Should be fun.

New release today, outside of the EA library, Litil Divil. Looks like an old adventure game I never heard of (guess it was on Amiga?). It's also $1 cheaper on GamersGate too.

God, I had that game for pc. Couldn´t get past one room relatively early in the game D:

Is battle chess still taking 60+ secs for every turn?

Are there more sales today?

I'd be disappointed (yet at the same time relieved) if new sales don't begin until after the Interplay sale ends next month.

"All of Interplay’s games are 50% off from now until the 4th of July, and we’ll be writing up more “Staycation Packages” for your reading pleasure as the days trip by" -- this to me suggests that the other packages will be unveiled before the Interplay one ends.

"Staycation Packages" are not actually new games on sale, but rather small articles where they talk about certain games featured in the sale. They've done it with Fallout, Freespace and Giants, so I guess that sentence means there are more coming.

Well done sir! Giants is quite possibly the best game to come out in 2000. Bold statement, but I stand by it.
Haha it certainly was for those that could run it. Ah the days of bleeding edge PC games...

This reminded me that I would so buy EcoQuest if it appears on GoG someday... loved that game.

So much for (delusionally) convincing myself that Nox would show up today!

Whoa, Litil Divil came out of nowhere. I never really quite got my head around just how it played from the reviews (I seem to remember it sounded vaguely mario party-ish, lots of minigames; but I could have been wrong)

Still, it's fun to see Mutt again.

Just makes it even dumber that it's not on GOG :p Any slice they have to give up to GOG they'll more than make up in unit sales, and purchasers benefit from having some security in their purchases.
seemed like there was some disagreement on the gog deal between 3dr and the newer apogee. 3dr somehow not knowing about the deal until it was announced on gog. and probably blocking any further titles from ending up on gog. 3dr people being annoying as usual.

So still a chance that Planescape Torment will go on sale during this period!!??

It was on Amiga, but there was a PC version too, in Europe at least (the game may have been EU only on all platforms). I've heard of it, but never played it... interesting, I kind of want to try it.

Security? How so? But I do agree about unit sales, almost all of those Apogee games there are great games and 3DR really should get all of them on GOG! They've got their pricing even with GOG (I don't remember, the games might have used to cost more), but yeah, they won't sell as much just on their own store as they would on GOG for sure. And Apogee published so many great classics, it'd be great to see them on a prominent site like GOG.

(Oh, most of the Apogee games not on that list there were released as freeware at various points, and can be downloaded elsewhere on the 3DR site. This includes Dark Ages, Stargunner, and some others.)

Despite GOG's stunt last year, they're certainly more likely to be a going concern than 3DR/Apogee, and if you're already skeptical about giving your payment info, one fewer merchant means one fewer point of failure.

Just give me a D&D package so I can buy Planescape and Balder's Gate II. Actually I really want to play that Outcast game as well. What's it like? Is it like Zelda but on an alien planet?

Its kind of ridiculous how much the site has blown up since that last stunt. I guess there really is no such thing as bad publicity sometimes.

Odd question, if I own a disc copy of Shogo. Would it be worthwhile to pick up GoG version too?

If you can spare $3.

$3 to not have to worry about finding the disc or having in the drive when you play. Seems fair enough.

I don't buy GOG games that I already own, but I guess some people do.

Ah, that's what you meant. You're probably right about that, but as you suggest you never know for sure.

Flying_Phoenix said:

Yes, in that it is an 'Action-Adventure', no in that there's no Hyrule Field-like HUB area or a big focus on puzzle dungeons. That being said, the regions themselves are massive and there's a lot to do in terms of side quests. Locales are varied, game play not so much. It's an interesting world to venture through, though I myself ultimately grew tired of it before the last region.

I just got what this meant. Needless to say I am disappoint.

It's really hard to quantify Outcast as there really isn't anything else like it. It's got open world elements, shooter elements, RPG elements, adventure game elements, it's crazy ambitious and really damn cool if you're willing to put the time in to get into it.

Qualify, you mean. There are some games like it out there, Deus Ex and Vampire: Bloodlines, for instance. It's like those, except third person instead of first person and each game play system is less complex (or sophisticated, if you will). The world, or rather the sections of it you traverse through are a lot bigger, however.
