NeoGAFs Kent Brockman

As per Counterplay Games CEO Keith Lee – who is also Godfall’s creative director – the advancements that Sony is making with the PS5’s hardware will provide benefits that the action title will really be able to use to its advantage. More specifically, Lee mentions the console’s solid state drive, its adaptive triggers, and its haptic-enabled controller.

“The exceptionally powerful SSD on the PlayStation 5 offers a new level of detail for each individual object as well as seamless loading of our expansiveness world,” Lee said in an interview with PlayStation Lifestyle. “Our combat is kinesthetic in nature, so the new controller’s ‘adaptive triggers’ and haptic feedback will make moment-to-moment combat feel exhilarating and visceral.”

An yes here we go, out of the ass reasons just to say we got more money. Let the start of a new-gen begins

That's a real short and deceptively worded article. It asks why the game won't be cross-generational not why it's not on XBOX Series X but the headline frames it as the reason it's EXCLUSIVE to PS5, which aren't the same thing. The article even then says Xbox Series X has the same features and assumes some backroom deal was done to secure exclusivity. It's the definition of clickbait but usually clickbait has more material to read through before figuring out they lied to you.

Well, I'm putting my coffee in THIS cup because it has an exception skill at holding fluid, even though the other does the same. This isn't because the cup gave me a few quid at all.

This is coming from Gearbox, guys

Alien Colonial Marines vibes

They're not the devs, though, they weren't on that either but that fact had been hidden from us. To be fair the team making this doesn't have a real pedigree, they have one free to play collectible card game, so it very well could be Colonial Marines all over again but at the very least we aren't being lead to believe Gearbox developed this themselves... that's a start, right?

I think consoles will benefit from (finally) getting an SSD . The PS4 doesn't even support SATA3 but i think the Pro + X do. SATA 3 ssds max out at around 600MB/s. if next gen consoles have equivalent to a PCIE 4.0 SSD then speeds could max out at 6GB/s. So, sure, ssds will let developers do more but it's not gonna be a huge game changer. A lot of people are going to be severely disappointed when they realise all this SSD talk is just marketing bullshit.

i'd be more excited if they were talking about improving RAM speeds. SSD's are really slow compared to how fast RAM is. for example:

my pc has an SSD that can do 3.4GB/s. my RAM can hit 25GB/s. even if i had a PCIE 4.0 card it'd still be much slower at 6GB/s.

I dunno, when I got my first SSD in a PC and the time to restart my PC was THAT short I nearly creamed my pants. I think the difference is totally going to be huge but the more time goes on the more it'll just be standard and the norm, like trying to download porn on a 56k after years of being on a cable modem.

yeah SSD's help boot times. consoles will start up faster.

but when it comes to games that's totally different. the only real uses i get out of my SSD is for editing videos. for games it has little effect over a SATA3 ssd. the biggest difference was going from a spinning drive to SSD. but from a slow SSD to a faster SSD not so much.

I would assume it'd help with big games where you need to load a new section, instead of walking down a tunnel slowly and having a conversation to mask a load screen.

It’s hardly a surprising response in all honesty though, is it?

As much as I’d love to see “Sony gave us a fucking ton of money to make it PS5 exclusive” they’d then get slammed for openly admitting the money was the incentive.

Just like FromSoft with Bloodborne and the whole ‘we could only make the game for PS4 because it was the only system that would allow us to display our vision for the game’ or some shit like that.

Yep, current games don't really show much difference

But games designed with fast SSD in mind could change that. PC gaming will be fucking interesting in 2020+, games will require fast drives and very powerful CPUs.

There's a few things you need to keep in mind here. Chiefly, that these consoles will be fixed spec and therefore can provide lower level access for things like memory-mapping the SSD NAND as a cache for things such as texture data and whatnot, that can't be done on PC due to all the combinations of specs users can potentially build.

The use-case for the SSDs in these consoles will allow for lower levels of access to developers than they can get on PC, that will lead to some notable gains. Even on PC we are seeing what games specifically designed with SSDs in mind can accomplish if you look at titles like Star Citizen; that can potentially be even better on consoles.

Oh yeah, also: I think it's genuinely funny that the first confirmed PS5 game we see is a more-or-less moneyhatted exclusive from a 3rd-party developer. You can't not see the irony in this, that's something you'd expect from MS a few years ago, not Sony in 2019 xD

Report me if I continue to console war
This screams of a spoon fed marketing line from Sony.
We know this because its also PC and unless they want an extremely small pc install base they will need to allow slower ssd's and possibly hdds.

As a PS5 owner I do not want xbox owners to play this. Let them believe it`s an amazing exclusive, no need to embarras the brand.
As a Xbox owner, I do not want other xbox owners to endure this turd.
