Ghost of Tsushima PS5 "killed" my PS5 twice in ~ 30 minutes. Anyone else have issues?

What do I mean with "killed my PS5"?

Out of nowhere:

- Screen goes black
- White console lights go out
- Controller light goes out

It's straight up dead in the water as if someone janked the power plug. Pressing the button on the controller brings the console back but it does a slow boot and I get a "there was a system error" message. After sending an error log to Sony it boots back to the main menu and everything is fine.

So yeah this happened once [never happened with any other game before] and I thought sure, things can happen. But then it happened again. And that's making me a bit nervous.

Anyone else encounter this? I'm fairly alarmed, I don't wanna fry my PS5 or something. Both game and console are updated to their latest versions.

Does it say anything in the Error's menu? (System/System Software/Error History).

Digital or physical version?

I remember the Console just shutting off on me when I turned on Infamous Second Son for the first time and another game. Both were digital.

Hasn't done it since those times.

Have not heard of anyone having this issue. Hopefully, your PS5 isn't defective.
Pretty much this. If it's not a widespread issue that you can find people talking about with a google search, it's possible its the system. Hopefully not.

I haven't heard about Ghost issues like this, but I haven't been looking for them.

no, but I had a crash to OS within the first 5 minutes after booting. Never happened on the PS4. I think that was the subject of their first hotfix. Other than that - without a hitch.
Haven't seen similar reports on /r/, this might be your hardware.

This reminds of the old days - Rise of the Tomb Raider would crash my PS4 Pro in 4K mode but ran fine at 1080p. I never have tried it again for a few years. It's probably what all these "stability firmware" updates that we all take the piss out of, fix.

DO you have your PS5 in an open area, or what most people here do, stuff it into a small space just big enough to fit it.

The system stability of the PS5 could be better. I've had the system shutdown randomly — the game being played does not seem to matter (or maybe both games triggered it for me?).

Check for spiders inside the console. I had a friend of an uncle of a distant cousin that works at Nintendo that said that his brother had the same issue.

First time I heard of the console shutting down on system error. Closing the app happened on PS4 as well, but the entire system is a first to me.

hmmm i have yet to see anything on this yet online...i havent played the directors cut on mine yet but i would try and contact Sony support and or wait to see if a patch helps out. can also try messaging Sucker Punch see if they're aware. so if you run another game now, does it run without issue?

I have a new/unopened PS5 still sitting in the box for this reason alone, not because I want to make a profit from the low stock.

I've played like 25 hours of the DC and never had an issue. Both in rest mode and turned off. Hopefully it's not your hardware.

I've played a gross amount since the patch and not had any issues.

Ratchet did repeatedly crash my PS5 and I know SM: MM was doing it too so it's not unbelievable to think it could be software.

This unfortunately sounds a lot like your PS5 is gonna need to be repaired or replaced. No game should really be able to make this happen, at worst it should crash or lock up the system, not just shut it down.

Final Fantasy VII Intergrade did this to my old PS5, I had to replace it because nothing else would solve the issue, I finished the game with 0 issues once I replaced the console for another one.

Try to rebuild the database. If keeps happening try reinstall the game. If keeps happening get ur warranty close to you.

This only happened 2 or 3 times but on my PS4, one of the times i had to unplug the power cord and plug it again to make it start, dont remember the games, but after a reboot everething kept working fine, and console is still fine today.

Yes it can, if he has a problem with the OS could turn off the console when an error happen. I opened on January a post here about corruption data problem (saves, games and videos), the most people told me was a hardware failure because wasn’t a common problem. I only removed SO and reinstalled from 0, and the PS5 is working as intended 8 months after.

Never had an issue, I do get the odd crash in No Man Sky but most games seem fine.

These things happen, I would wait for a patch, who knows what is triggering it!?

Errors happen unfortunately, I had my Series X show an error message the other day that I looked up and the information said it was an xbox one error, I was downloading the Diablo 2 beta and put it in rest mode and came back and it kept me on a screen saying it was 62% downloading an update for something and wouldn't move, the controller wouldn't connect and kept turning itself off within 20 seconds, I reset it using the power button several times and it didn't do anything so eventually I had to unplug the console and take the batteries out of the controller and wait a few minutes which seemed to finally fix the issue. I remember the good old days when all we did was blow on our NES cartridges (which was not good) or lay our PS1's upside down lol.

I’ve never had a single crash on my ps5 and I’ve put in hundreds of hours on it, including this game.

LOL... I had a Pro and One X, my mate had a Pro only, does not like Xbox! Anyway he came round and I was showing him my One X for the first time, I'm trying to convince him it's a beast of a machine at the time, the first game I load up is Rise of the Tomb Raider and it crashed the console on the menu screen. He looks at me and says yeah great console, the game completely fucked me over on trying to convince him! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

A lot of people had issues with Returnal apparently, I didn't have any issues with that game.

I don't really understand what you're saying (you can't "remove the OS" on a PS5), but what he's describing definitely sounds more like a hardware issue to me.

I think your PS5 has done some sort of atrocity and is committing hara-kiri. You must allow it to finish it's ritual or it will forever live in shame.

It sounds like he's talking about option 7 in PS5 Safe Mode:

Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) – Deletes all user data and removes PS5 system software. This will reset the PS5 system software to its original launch factory firmware state.

It might be an idea to boot your PS5 into Safe Mode and select the option to rebuild the database. It might help with the crashing issue you're experiencing. At the very least, it won't hurt.
