I haven't seen it mentioned yet so I'm guessing nobody who got Mario early found any references to Galaxy 2 in there at all...

I think so, lol. Works for me. It suits my purposes, if I seem a little scarier, hahaha.
If he has any sense you're scarier now that he knows the truth but that could just be my experience growing up in a large Italian family and dating Mexican girls talking.

That's because it's DLC.
Right, if it's gonna be in this at all it'll be as DLC (I doubt it would be included as an unlockable game anyway), but even with planned DLC like that there'd maybe be some references to it, hooks in the code or something.

I dunno I'm not a scientist.

The SNES Super Mario All-Stars is still fun to play. I've been playing it a bit, and it's pretty great. It's perfect as the lead-in for 3D All-Stars. I still hate the NES and SNES apps though. I'd rather pay more money and buy the games I want individually, than have them in a group with a bunch of games I'll never play.

I honestly can't believe how much of a waste of space the PS5 is. I guess a new video card really is the way to go. Plus all the money I throw at Nintendo for their old games.

Super Mario Sunshine is way better than a 7/10 lmao. Whoever played probably couldn’t appreciate an actual challenge, a thorough and rigorous platforming game, for whatever reason. Even if they took out the x and y axis camera angles and took away the water pressure while running and it didn’t work out well in their favor, the game would probably still be worthy of an 8.8/10. Based off my experience with Super Mario Sunshine in 2002, I’m scoring game at well deserved 9.5/10

Easily the most challenging Super Mario game since Super Mario Bros. 3 imo. Two thumbs up for the game’s incredible levels both visually and for the great challenge it presents

The only issue I had was that sometimes it presented such a trying level or obstacle that I’d lose like 20 lives trying to get past something. But that’s what made this game fun. You’re not going to run through it like Super Mario Galaxy and forward; the game itself will test you big time

This is a very worthy sequel to Super Mario 64. I personally am extremely excited to play it again

But I’m going to buy it in a few months, after I beat a ton of NES and SNES online games

Man the only thing I got from that presentation is that I'm really glad Zelda didn't get inspiration from Dark Souls like the internet peanut gallery wanted. Seeing Final Fantasy go all gritty medieval setting but keep chocobos and protags with Kpop idol haircuts gave me second hand embarassment. BotW has a much more interesting and unique visual identity.

It isn't in the game. Certainly could be added as a DLC but I doubt they will do that. Perhaps a standalone title later? I could see the collection getting parted out in the future.

The fact that Galaxy is hybrid emulation + port is interesting. If they choose to do more Wii titles on the console then they definitely have a unique approach. Gives you something closer to a native game, allows for code changes (especially nice w/ so many motion control games so inputs aren't emulated), and cuts down on dev time of a full port by pushing rendering to emulator. If Galaxy doesn't suffer from input lag then I certainly hope we see more games handled this way-I would be all about more Wii games on Switch.

I was pretty disappointed when I read in the 3D All-Stars review that the Sunshine camera was not only changed from the original but there's no option to change it back. I mean, what?? I'm sure for a lot of people this won't matter but it's an actual deal-breaker for me. I was going to grab it from Walmart for $10 off but I'll be waiting now until there's a patch to at least allow the option for original camera control. I love Nintendo, but sometimes their decisions are beyond comprehension.

The thing I’ve realized, with regards to 3D All Stars, is that the collection is just a bonus for Nintendo. The work they’ve done for the emulation of GameCube, Wii, and N64 is going to continue to pay off. It makes the GameCube and Wii libraries easier to bring over. It makes an N64 app doable. I would have liked actual remasters, but I don’t think Nintendo ever thought about doing that.

I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mario 64 ends up being included with the N64 Nintendo Online service, whenever that happens. I wouldn’t be surprised if they all ended up available individually, once the 3D All-Stars windows closes.

Tbh I'm not too bothered about a direct - I've got plenty to play for the rest of the year and into next with the mario all stars and 3d world games. If something nice comes out that's wonderful though I'm buggered if I can figure out where it'll fit in my schedule.
If it's a Square Enix partner direct with BD 2 and Octo 2 then it's redeemed.

What did everyone think of the Sony show?

Final Fantasy XVI is now my most anticipated next gen game.
At the very least it was quite a bit better than what Microsoft showed, not that this is a huge achievement though. But as for FF16, I'm sorry but I will never accept a game like that being called Final Fantasy. It's literally not even the same genre of game as most of the past ones. Demon's Souls also looked off to me in terms of combat and they seem to have infused some of that Western "spectacle" juice in there which I am not fond of, but I'll reserve judgement on it for now since that's something you really need to play to see if it feels as good as the original.

I'm fun at parties though, honest.

Its a JRPG. It is literally the same genre as the last ones, just with an action-focused combat system - one that seems to be similar to the last 2 Final Fantasy games we had received.

That is not a turn based JRPG, it looked more like a Devil May Cry game than anything else. And I mentioned "most of the past ones", I don't care what the last two are.

The fact is SE is no longer interested to have turn based battles in mainline FF, I made peace with it.
I do take some issue with the fact that their action focused combat is somewhat pedestrian. It's weird that Falcom is constantly able to nail them in the ass with the Ys series despite having like 1/100000 the budget.

Man, seeing the PS5 reveal, I'm just thinking back to the Playstation 2's first year. Like, there were a bunch of games at launch, and almost all of them were crap. It felt like a long wait, but then 2001 brought Onimusha, Dark Cloud, Klonoa 2, Ace Combat 4, Shadow Hearts, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 2, Final Fantasy X, Silent Hill 2, etc. And that was just one of the four consoles. That world just doesn't exist anymore.

Gonna have my old man yells at cloud moment here, but kids today really have no idea how good things were. It's less of a nostalgia thing and more of a perfect storm of creativity, business circumstance, and tech evolution.

As much as im enjoying these PlayStation/Microsoft shows it feels like nothing can replace a good Direct 🥺 Nintendo show the new games!

Slowly but they are getting better, SE recently took DMC5 guys from Capcom to help, the gameplay is the least thing im worried about unless you can't stand real time action combat,at worst it will be well beyond their previous FFXV and other open world games like,Witcher 3 🤢

Its the other things im not excited about, the western fantasy feel and writting, at least FFXII world was unique im not seeing that here so far but its still early

JRPG does not indicate Turn-based battles. Never has.
I... didn't say it did?

When it comes to turn based combat I still have Bravely/Octopath, Dragon Quest and SMT/Persona.
It's because I've replayed some of the older FF's recently that it probably gets to me a bit because there's really nothing like those games at all these days. The gameplay, the spectacle, the charm, the music. I won't say they always did everything right but they were in a league of their own in a few ways. So it's just kind of sad.

FF XVI looked awesome and playing as Vergil is badass, but the rest didn't connect with me. Demon's Souls looked atrocious IMO, they absolutely butchered the From aesthetics.
I'm convinced Final Fantasy is dead to me. Show was pretty meh, no real hype for me.
Totally understand some of the disappointment re: FF. I can relate w/ changes to other games I love. Harder for me to stomach huge changes to MP titles especially but SP doesn't bother me as much.

Personally I really liked what I saw of FF today. That said, I also wish Square would try something like a FF I-VI again. I think that would be huge. I was actually surprised by the direction of FFVIIR-I expected them to use that title as a pivot point to begin producing both traditional turn based and action RPG games with alternating releases.

Never played the original Demon's Souls so I can't speak to the changes there but art style changes are always disappointing.

This one of the downside of series becoming too popular. The budget for developing FF is high and unfortunately turn based combat is considered "niche", SE cant effort to make high budget FF game with turn based combat. Atlus goes around this by not having crazy high budget for their games, their great art direction makes up for lack high tech graphics.

Personally, I think I will be showing some restraint next gen and waiting a while until I know what games we'll get etc.

Gonna wait to see how Series X shapes up in terms of performance and might consider going with that and Game Pass for a change.

The problem with these events is the same as I always say here about Directs. They are just adverts for upcoming games. People seem to love them and all but there's so little gameplay and no sense of what the games will be like to play. It's like the community just goes wild for announcements but by the time those games have released the reception is lukewarm because people are demanding even more announcements.

Prices were always going to go up so its funny seeing people's reaction to the new pricing.

F to pay respects.
Not one of my favorites, but a great system, packed with memories. Probably the best showing for Nintendo games ever on a handheld, until the Switch merge, too. Whereas their other handhelds felt like they had lower-effort first party games, Nintendo just went all-out with classics on the thing, making it seem more like an honorary Nintendo console, than a handheld.

And 3D was pretty awesome too. I’m going to miss this era.

If it happens, I’ll be thrilled. It’ll be a bit of a miniature megaton for MH to come home again... and I’m kind of fascinated to see what a third party Switch exclusive that (presumably) really uses the hardware looks like.
