Developer Free Radical, creator of the TimeSplitters franchise, announced today that it is joining with Ubisoft to create an original action title for the PC and next-generation consoles.

The only details disclosed about the currently untitled game were that it will "target mature gamers, [and] feature difficult strategic choices and moral dilemmas, tapping into both their rational and emotional instincts."

Although no specific mention of the Nintendo Revolution was made, could this announcement have any pertinence to the news concerning Ubisoft's rumored first-person shooter for Revolution put forth last week? Revolution Report will keep you updated.

Isn't Free Radical owned or at least in a contract with Vivendi?
I'm pretty sure they're independent. So far Eidos, Code Masters, EA and Ubisoft have published their games.

I <3 Free Radical.

Can't wait to see what they're doing for the next-gen
I agree. They're one of my favorite developers this gen. I just picked up TimeSpliters:FP a couple of days ago and I can't believe how much fun I'm having with it. Everything about it is superior to it's predecessors. Truly one of the best FPS's this gen imo. Second Sight was pretty good too.

revolutionreport as the source eh? Sorry but I will wait for a better source.
Yeah, well considering the over abundance of Xbox 360 threads, I figured it wouldn't hurt. Free Radical has to be working on something though so this wouldn't suprise me one bit.

Whoops. My bad, I confused them with Radical Entertainment. Silly me :)

GameSpot - "Publisher Ubisoft this morning announced that it had reached an agreement with Free Radical Design to publish the studio's next effort, an action game based on an original intellectual property, sometime between April 2006 and March 2007.

The game will appear on PCs and next-generation consoles, and aims to appeal to older gamers by placing players in moral dilemmas and forcing them to make difficult choices to immerse them in the game experience.

"With this game, we plan to take players to a new level of intensity and create an environment at once terrifying, enthralling, and impossible to resist," said Jay Cohen, vice president of publishing at Ubisoft."

EA almost ruined TS3 by publishing it. The game was rushed and wasn't bug tested properly (this is the publisher's fault).

11/22/2005 - Ubisoft and Free Radical join forces to provide an innovative action blockbuster

Paris, FRANCE – November 22, 2005 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it has signed an agreement with Free Radical Design, developer of the acclaimed TimeSplitters® series, to develop an action game based on new IP for release in fiscal year 2006-2007.

The game (title to be announced) will be developed for next-generation consoles and the PC, enriching Ubisoft’s catalogue for the next fiscal year and expanding its offering on new consoles. Targeting mature gamers, it will feature difficult strategic choices and moral dilemmas, tapping into both their rational and emotional instincts.

The three games in the Free Radical’s TimeSplitters® series have earned stellar ratings from some of the industry’s most respected sources and have sold around 3.5 million copies.

“Ubisoft is looking forward to working closely with Free Radical, renowned for creating beautiful and engaging gameplay in epics such as the TimeSplitters® series,” said Virginie Gretz, director of third-party development for EMEA at Ubisoft. “With this game, we plan to take players to a new level of intensity and create an environment at once terrifying, enthralling and impossible to resist.”

“We are delighted to benefit from Ubisoft’s collaboration on this title and benefit from its strong experience developing and marketing powerful, innovative action titles,” stated Steve Ellis, managing director of Free Radical Design.
