Not in the UK.As always, CoD will be the best selling game of the year.
That will be FIFA

Damn 80 % for Forza is huge even with digital download rising. As someone mentioned earlier, no way digital compensates for this huge drop.
The Gamepass effect or franchise fatigue? Or Both.
Yeah it was day one on gamepass PC, i played it that way.
Just for a bit of context, in 2020 the best selling game in the UK - FIFA - sold 2.2 million copies over the whole year. The second biggest game, COD Black Ops Cold War, sold 1.42 million. In the whole year. Physical + Digital.
The biggest selling game in the UK in 2020 sold approximately 1 million copies physically, so < 100k a month. The second best selling sold roughly 600k physical all year, or 50k per month.
In 2020 in the UK there were 42.7 million games sold in total, physical + digital. 24.5 million of those were digital sales, or 57%. That is up 74% over 2019. It's safe to say that digital has increased massively again this year, so even say a 50% increase in digital (when in reality it will likely be significantly higher) and a 30% total increase in game sales would give us:
Conservative Estimate for 2021:
Total game sales: 42.7 * 1.3 = 55.5 million
Digital sales: 24.5 * 1.5 = 36.7 million
Physical sales = 55.5 million - 36.7 million = 18.8 million
Digitalhysical split for 2021: 36.7/55.5 : 18.8/55.5 = ~66.7%:33.3%
So when you're talking about monthly physical only sales in the UK, you're talking a few thousand copies in total from all games ranked 3-10 most of the time. Probably 20k for games 3-10k combined would be pushing it.
Now do people see why UK physical sales charts are irrelevant in 2021?

No. | Title | Total Sales | Physical Sales | Digital Sales | Digital Split |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | FIFA 21 | 2,237,175 | 1,076,743 | 1,160,432 | 51.9% |
2 | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War | 1,528,985 | 472,590 | 1,056,395 | 69.1% |
If you're refencing the mentions of PS4 and PC in the code that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I expect a PC port on 6-12 months. Its possible a PS4 port could come later but I'm not too confident in that.really? oh so you would be counted as one of the players then in that count?
lol with Animal Crossing at number 3. I'ma buy 3 copies of that game when I got to pick up some milk and eggs from Walmart
Woopah oh SMTV will get that chance to move even more units when it comes to PC and PS

There's the Geforce leak showing it coming to PC and there's the PS4 reference in the code, but those are separate things. I think SMTV will be a Monster Hunter Rise situation where it comes to PC 6 months later.Considering how that leak is confirming a bunch of other stuff that slowly is being confirmed, I believe its very true. Knowing SEGA, they already have some port ready as they made many comments about porting to PC and other platforms, as in they didn't just solely state PC, but I felt it was obvious this was some timed deal or something.
Attacking every UK sales thread should = a warning or ban.
The hell is wrong with you people? Sales threads have been posted for years but now it seem that there has been a Discord meeting that instructed minions to attack every sales thread.
I mean there's no need to guess in this case, we know FH4 had 2m players on it's first week counting PC/Xbox sales and gamepass.Damn 80 % for Forza is huge even with digital download rising. As someone mentioned earlier, no way digital compensates for this huge drop.

GOD DAMMIT! HE'S ON TO US! CLOSE DISCORD!there has been a Discord meeting that instructed minions to attack every sales thread.
Ban UK sales threads or any other threads to do with sales. Unless an xbox game tops the charts. We can make an exception for that.

I quite like these threads, but enjoy the Sunday drops from game industry biz more cause its more comprehensive in terms of the sales splits. They rather hear and believe PR from MS execs that everything is fine and dandy but hate it when actual numbers are shown.
What these threads now exposed is that physical sales don't show the entire picture (actually, not even half the picture) so all the weeks of celebrating PS5s software sale superiority look hilarious in hindsightYeah it seems like some people are triggered by every sales thread since it exposes the truth about their favorite console.
And what does total revenue including digital look like? Just so we can get a feel for how relevant these sales you listed are.Imagine when the damage control squad tries to say "It is irrelevant to 2021" games selling:
Week 1: 96.2k
Week 2: 51k
~ $9 million revenue in two weeks in a single country.
It is maybe irrelevante for your agenda because for Publishers and business it actually very relevant.

Very few people are celebrating. They are just interested in sales and data. You are projecting.
Currenlly these physicals sales are all we've got, and the occational monthly digital split. So beggars cant be choosers when it comes to sales thread IMO. Its better than nothing.
And what does total revenue including digital look like? Just so we can get a feel for how relevant these sales you listed are.
Moving to GSD data for the digital and physical software market, just under 2.5 million games were sold in October, which consists of 1.25 million physical games and 1.25 million digital games -- a 50/50 digital/physical split.
But when you're only getting physical data it literally is nothing.
No, it's worse than nothing because the numbers are very misleading.Very few people are celebrating. They are just interested in sales and data. You are projecting.

I'm not sure what weird narrative you are trying to create here because digital sales doesn't make physical sales irrelevant. And what does total revenue including digital look like? Just so we can get a feel for how relevant these sales you listed are.
No one complains about Japan sales threads. But when you're only getting physical data it literally is nothing.
It's getting harder to tell who is being serious these daysForget FH5's placement! There is not a single Sony game in the top ten. They must be in trouble in the UK.
Bullshit... we got both... and physical sales are very relevant so do digital sales. But when you're only getting physical data it literally is nothing.
Japan is the same narrative driven in the opposite formNo one complains about Japan sales threads.
We only get part of the data, but it's better than none at all. It would be better if we got all the data, physical and digital, and not just %, but it is what it is.
It's almost like those two are not the same for some reason.Japan is the same narrative driven in the opposite form
They try to ignore digital sales in Japan threads... and here in UK threads they try to ignore physical sales.
Far Cry 6 was 53% digital , physical 47%I'm not sure what weird narrative you are trying to create here because digital sales doesn't make physical sales irrelevant.
In any case we don't have digital for the second week but...
Physical: ~96.2k (~$6 million)
Digital: ~244.2k (~15 million)
BTW that is only CoD.
Yeap it varies from game to game... some games even have more physical than digital.Far Cry 6 was 53% digital , physical 47%
lets dismiss those 47% physical sales shall we?
No, it's worse than nothing because the numbers are very misleading.

Forza flopping CONFIRMED despite topping Steam top sellers for two weeks, still being #2 right now behind Battlefield and having 1.5M players in Early Access.Hahaha, are you ok!? I've only just seen this post...It's gold mate, GOLD!
Forza flopping CONFIRMED despite topping Steam top sellers for two weeks, still being #2 right now behind Battlefield and having 1.5M players in Early Access.
No one is attacking UK physical sales thread, but a lot of people are taking it for what it is, a small, ever-shrinking data point.
What these threads now exposed is that physical sales don't show the entire picture (actually, not even half the picture) so all the weeks of celebrating PS5s software sale superiority look hilarious in hindsight
8m digital people is happy with their digital. Keep your physical numbers. You and the rest of the Xbox fanboys would sing a different tune if FH5 was topping the chartz. Sales threads have always been a thing on gaf. Deal with it or dont enter it.
Just because your lord and savior Phil loves to hide them sales numbers whether its console sales or sw either way its gaming related news. Or do you want to ban any topic that doesnt suit your favourite plastic box? At least be honest about it.
But but ”Xbox is digital only”……. Really? as long as there’s physical media or/and HW being sold to consumers it be discussed! end off.
Far Cry 6 was 53% digital , physical 47%
Forza is digital type of game, due to dlc, mtx. So buying it physical makes no sense.
well i tried.Well according to MS it makes sense to sell it physical otherwise it wouldnt chart now would it?
Sorry but your argument doesnt make any sense
People can have their take on what they think is best between the two. thats not the issue here. We have people coming in a sales thread shitting themselves wanting to ban/censor a topic thats been on this forum for ages.
Higher than what? What data is that statement based on?Physical sales and does not include digital. At the end of the week they usually announce the physical + digital data.
On Xbox, and especially the case of FH5, the percentage on digital is notably higher than on PS. Hence, the UK physical data is now useless to know the reality of sales.
The last example is COD Vanguard where 80% of sales on Xbox were digital versus 67% on PS5 (COD Vanguard digital + physical is 57% PS vs 43% Xbox)
Like the actual sales guy Chris said, the biggest selling Xbox console in the UK doesnt havea disk drive.
Take that as what you will when looking at physical sales in the UK.
Saying that, I don't want sales threads to go anywhere. I think they are worth it to have a view on the market. Its interesting.....it also makes for some incredible comedy posts from people who do not understand what the physical UK sales amount to in the overall grand view of things.
Xbox One has a disc drive.Like the actual sales guy Chris said, the biggest selling Xbox console in the UK doesnt havea disk drive.
Where is the digital split from? All I could see was this:Cheers for that, you reminded me to update my table.
Using the 1st week physical split as the same after the rest of the month in the absence of data.
26pt gap between the digital ratio of ps and xbox is a bit weird, no?
FIFA's closest rival this week is Far Cry 6 from Ubisoft. The game's boxed sales are almost 70% lower than Far Cry 5, which was released in March 2018. 47% of sales were on PS5, 24% on PS4 and 29% on Xbox platforms. The drop looks severe, but even in three years digital has accelerated significantly, and as we saw with FIFA, it almost certainly did a lot better than it appears.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Chris said half (50%) of Series sales are Series S in UK.Like the actual sales guy Chris said, the biggest selling Xbox console in the UK doesnt havea disk drive.
No worries: I will try and explain the maths and the assumptions here also to sense check my formula. We are assuming that the first week physical split is representative of continuing weeks (shit assumption i know but ehh)Xbox One has a disc drive.
Where is the digital split from? All I could see was this:
Bullshit... we got both... and physical sales are very relevant so do digital sales.
