It actually baffles me why Sony seems so infatuated with following in the footsteps of Microsoft who is trailing behind them considerably. Sony’s strategy has worked for many years and even lead to global domination. Microsoft basically had to change up their plans to stay relevant in the industry. Why potentially screw it up?
Because two things have historically been vital to success in this industry.
1. Having superior first party output compared to the competition.
2. Having a user base advantage over the competition.
That's how Sony "won" 3 generations and it's how Microsoft "won" 1 generation.
Sony is following Microsoft's footsteps because they no longer feel comfortable with their position at points 1 and 2.
