And Microsoft, owning both Bethesda AND Obsidian (edit: AND Inxile), doesn't have a game in the works to launch nowhere close to the series

“Microsoft should have canceled AAA games in the works from InXile and Obsidian” is quite the take indeed.

You can be funny as much as you like, but still, another embarassing planning from Microsoft.

Sony and Nintendo can maximize their IP with precise planning between all the medias, Microsoft can't do shit instead.

Yeah Bethesda fucked this one up badly (I assume that the show was already in the works before Microsoft bought them). They should've gotten a Fallout game into production either by another studio or by Bethesda's second team or so. They also most likely thought that Starfield was gonna have longer legs.

Edit: That Fallout 4 "next gen updated" is obviously a panic reaction.

Right, The Last of Us 3 dropped at release of their show.

A 3D mario game as well with the movie.

They are wizards and shouldn’t be compared to next gen versions of Fallout games.

Is it 65 million individual people or times a play button was pressed on each episode?!
No way in hell that’s 65 mil people who watched the whole season.
Is it that crazy? It would be interesting to see how they count but great TV shows have huge audience

Microsoft didn’t own Fallout until end of Q1 2021. Bethesda had their hands full with Starfield, and Elder Scrolls 6. Obsidian has TWO AAA games in the works, both started well before Microsoft bought Bethesda. Before that they’d put out Pentiment and Grounded. InXile is fully focused on delivering their AAA title Clockwork Revolution.

Perhaps there could have been scope to contract another studio to come up with a Fallout remaster or something, but It’s a daft opinion to expect that to have come from either Obsidian or InXile.

Yes, because the only time you can make a new game is when Season 1 of a successful series releases 🙄

CD Projekt is making a new Witcher game that will show up after the series wraps up. It’s almost as if IP popularity can last well after a series or movie airs.

Very successful series performance on Prime video. Season 2 underway

Very significant hike in players across all titles, including spike in sales for live service Fallout 76.

Yes, the IP is truly ‘thrown in the toilet’

You should go to work at Microsoft to spin anything decent to mindblowing achievements, Spencer would love you.

65 milions viewer and no one of their titles even manage to get close to half the peak of when the game got released.

You are truly blessed.

Let's play a game - which of the following would sell the most:

1. Avowed
2. InXile something
3. New Fallout

Yes, if they don’t release a Fallout game In 2024, the IP is dead and buried forever 🙄

Killing a studio’s game that’s been in the works since 2019 is certainly the surefire way to retain talent and keep staff morale up.

Let’s not even imagine the threads here on GAF if Microsoft went through with that. Y’all complain about MS mismanaging studios yet are here pushing for mismanagement.

They’ll be on Fallout Season 3 in 5 years time. More than enough time to release a Fallout game to capitalize on the hype. Not the first time a Prime Video series has grown its audience season after season. The Boys had its first season in 2019. Season 3 shows up this year and the series is still as popular as ever.

Only common sense is needed to see why InXile and Obsidian weren’t available to make anything Fallout starting from 2021.

Fallout 76 hit its all time peak on Steam 9 days ago.
Fallout 4 had approx 190k CCUs in the past 24 hours. And it’s not a GaaS title.

0/2 for you so far, my guy.

Not sure you can buy it. I am a bit suspicious about these numbers - to me it sounds like they might be hiding the fact that in reality the show is a huge failure.
Entire movie\ tv industry got sick of failures.

So they invented these new methods of distribution so nobody knows how hard they are failing.

What kind of clown thinks that a TV series viewership translates to direct game players?

Fallout 4 has had 187.5k concurrent players on steam this weekend. 9 year old single player game beating Helldivers 2

Last of Us part 1 all time high… 36.5k, roughly near the peak of the show 13 months ago

Fallout 76 with 1 million players across all platforms in a day

5 million players concurrently across all platforms and fallout and probably higher since that announcement

It’s down the toilet

Yeah, they need a new Fallout title soon. Mircosoft need to make Fallout London an official title, if it takes another year to get it working on console so be it.
Bethesda actually supporting mods? Please...
They could have gone the CDPR route and paid certain mod creators to use their mods in the official next gen version. You know, important mods which fix crashes and bugs that have been there since the launch of the game. Instead they broke those mods and didn't even fix the bugs the mods fixed.
