So, with the latest news (SM exclusive character in Avengers, more timed-exclusive big games), i read a lot of stupid takes like how does this benefits you, as a playstation consumer. Let me explain it.
Everything Sony does to make PS5 more popular benefits me as a PlayStation consumer. These are the benefits:
1. More people buy PS5, more people play online, so the multiplayer player base grows bigger.
2. More consoles sold, less chance that a game will not release on PS5 (everyone wants a piece of pie from that big playstation base).
3. More money Sony earns, more money they are willing to spend to create exclusive games, or even buy more studios.
There are other pluses i am sure i missed, feel free to write them in comments.

Well, sure that works if you are a huge PlayStation fanboy and don't care about them spending money on timed exclusives or your fellow gamers Series Xses not getting game.

But what if you had both consoles and wanted to play a game on the most powerful system 🤔

Let's be real here all the outrage coming from people who won't buy a Playstation anyway so why should Sony care? they want to sell the console and more games on the console, i was getting the game on PS4 and now you are telling me i'm getting Spiderman for free? sound like pro consumer to me

Sony doesn't care, neither MS nor Nintendo all they care about is money, everyone screaming anti consumer should vote with their wallet and stfu

It's not about why Sony should care.

Good grief.. this forum lol

You all just need a basic lesson on monopolies and how they work out for consumers in the long run. The Sony we see today exists because of healthy competition, you remove that and things change. Will they stop producing software for profit? Of course not.. but anything they would be driven to do to compete in a market becomes lessened.. their decisions about hardware, the services they offer, and things like niche games they make to differentiate themselves change and they can just focus on maximizing profit as consumers have no other choice.

So yes, companies making money can be good for consumers.. so can healthy competition. Nobody in their right mind is demanding SONY care.. but gamers should care.

They should want companies to compete by producing better products to vie for our dollars.. not "YAY THIS COMPANY JUST PAID TO MAKE THE OTHER PRODUCT WORSE... YAY!! GO COMPANY!"

(in before "Microsoft does it too!" of course they do, these anti-competitive practices suck all around, doesn't matter who does it)

Gamers should care about Microsoft wanting to do better. It's up to Microsoft to actually make that happen.

However if Microsoft doesn't make a product that I want, I will not buy it.

Simple as that.

Yeah, no. If Sony is wasting money moneyhatting on timed exclusives, they arent investing in their first party studios. Plain and simple. Days Gone, Horizon, GoW, and Ghost took 5-6 years to make because these studios simply arent big enough. Especially Sucker Punch and Sony Bend.

You wouldve gotten more games from both Sucker Punch and Sony Bend this gen if Sony had doubled the number of devs instead of moneyhatting CoD DLC, Destiny exotic weapons and FF7 remake which you wouldve gotten anyway.

The hilarious thing is how plainly obvious the brainwashing of marketing works on consumers, particularly gamers.

You see yourselves as part of the brand.. you are Sony.. that's why you go to defend them so much. "Why should Sony care!" Why are you thinking/talking/acting on behalf of a faceless corporation who doesn't give 2 shits about you?

This shit is mind numbing.

Right.. rather obvious .

But competitors paying to make each other's products worse, at no benefit to the consumer.. is not a good thing for consumers.

It's a balance.. we benefit from the market being profitable as it's what drives companies to produce the products we enjoy. But there's a point where that profit motive starts eroding the products we enjoy.. and none of it is necessary for these markets to continue to be healthy. Moneyhatted exclusives aren't required for these companies to compete against each other.. they are a net negative for consumers.

Wrong, Sony is moneyhatting on timed exclusivev AND is investing a lot of money in their first party studios. You get the best of two worlds, as a PS consumer.
Moneyhatting timed exclusives means developers spend more time with the PS version of the game, as a result it is more polished when it arrives.

i understand that and that's why i said vote with your wallet, all this meltdowns and freakouts won't matter (but i love it lol), Sony and MS and Nintendo they all do it because it works and it makes money

Look. I get it. Exclusives are good for Sony. But that Spider-Man deal is just plain stupid, because it also hurts PS customers. How do I know that?

Because of similarly stupid deal in Destiny. In this series, Bungie gave Sony one exclusive strike one exclusive weapon and PvP map per year (and some other shit). But because it was multiplatform game, all of that shit was worthless, because Bungie never made exclusive strike as nighfall, never put Trials on exclusive PvP map and never sold exclusive weapon through Xur.

And it will be same with Spiderman in Avengers. Instead of him being important character, he is thrown aside as useless and he will be useless forever. Square will grab a money, Sony will jack off and Spidey will be forgotten forever, as usual in these kind of deals.

So, Sony gimped Spiderman in Avengers just so their fanboys can scream how great they are. Which is more then sad.

Fellow xbox gamers? You mean generally gamers or friends that game?

Nobody I know is xbox Gamer, one owns the one digital edition but doesnt use it.

If i had both, I would play it on the system with better controller (Playstation with symmetrical sticks), minor graphical differences mean nothing.

Timed exclusives are waste imo, as I have time to wait.

That's just speculation without any proof.
Do you really think, that Crystal Dynamics will integrate Spider-Man into the story, even if big chunk of players won't be able to experience it? That's just waste of development resources and nobody in the right mind will do it.

Mark my words. He will be playable in co-op missions (that Strike-like and Raid-like missions), he will maybe have introductory mission and that will be the end. Because nobody is that stupid to produce big content pieces, that plenty of players wont be able to enjoy, when they in same time can produce a content that all players can enjoy.

I mean, it's not that hard to understand...

If only they'd invest some of that money into making a half decent controller with a button layout that shouldn't have stayed in 1997.

I honestly wanted to buy a PS4. It does pretty much everything right except for the damn controller. I'll never understand how the primary means of movement is in the secondary location. I mean, for the PS1 I understood because they forgot to add them to the original controler and they had to place them somewhere when they released the dual shock. But for the PS2 going forward there is no excuse. Makes any game on PlayStation unplayable for me.

If PS will get a huge >70% share of the game sales (which seems realistic), they will have plenty of people that will be able to enjoy SM.
Why do you act like PS is not a market leader with more that 110 M consoles sold ?

Nintendo certainly don’t care. They already have an Avengers like game with Spider-Man in it on top of selling over 100 million first party games at full price on Switch.

Well he's coming out next year so he wouldn't have been available at launch. Which means he probably wouldn't have been part of the story.

Except that they are not. Sony Bend and Sucker Punch are a great example. These studios were simply too small to create large open world games and thats why it took them 6 years instead of 3.

None of those excuses make any sense or explain any real benefit to Playstation customers. These are all games coming to the console anyway and users would have no problem finding a community in the games. Or even games with no MP like FF7RPart1, no benefit to PS users having an exclusive deal.

Yes. But since this is live service game, I expect devs to create more and more story missions through lifecycle of this game. And I can safely say, that story missions will be without Spider-Man.

Tell me more about development time: how many people work in 343, and why did it take them so long with Infinite.
Also, those PS studios are expanding.

With the latest agressive marketing, it is definitely a possibility.

What has 343 has anything to do with it? But to answer your "in the topic" question. They were probably building the engine :messenger_winking:
Again. If you think, PS vs. Xbox+PC+Stadia will have 70% share, you are just plain fanboy with rose tinted glasses.

I'm definitely buying a PS5 but I fail to see how them paying out hundreds of millions for timed exclusives helps me. As far as I can see, it's the worst possible use of that money, from my point of view.

I'd much rather they hadn't closed down good studios like Evolution and Guerrilla Cambridge. I'd much rather they buy new studios like Ready at Dawn or the WB developers. I'd much rather they expand their existing studios, or open brand new ones.

Exclusives are great because they let developers harness the unique power of the PS5, and the PS4 before it. That won't be the case with these timed exclusives because developers will know they have to be ported to the Xbox soon after.

Timed exclusives are a zero sum game: Sony win by making Xbox lose.

It's shit.

I'm a big fan of competition if your name is Jim Sterling you just look at the worst parts of competition because you want some communist b******* and if you're an absolutist of capitalism I guess you only look at the good parts me I'm pretty much in the middle I think the good parts are worth the bad parts but I recognize them both
