Dragon's Dogma |OT| For the night is dark and full of terrors

I think I might have it. My pawn was rocking a weird mask when I checked on my main account, and I think I got it from the Ur Dragon, but it's been so long I don't remember for sure.

I'll send it to you, and if it's the wrong one don't worry about it. My big, bulky, Sagat-like pawn looks silly in it.

EDIT: Oh god jesus nearly five million RC to rent your pawn. what do

Send me a friend request on Xbox live, that should remove the RC price from renting my pawn...I think.

I justed rested within the inn, I think the servers didn't register it. The pawn returned with a carrot lol
I actually had to rent your pawn twice. The first time I forgot you couldn't give equipment as a parting gift, so I sent her back empty handed.

I've also been playing a game where the top face button opens the menu, so I stabbed Asalam in the dick a few times trying to open my inventory.

Haha I have a habit of killing Asalam to prevent him from turning into a love interest. Aside from that nothing ever made it back with my pawn, she must have eaten the thing.

Edit- looks like both parties have to rest. That or a 4 hour delay.

I just slept at the inn, hopefully that'll fix it. The mask is definitely gone from my inventory, too, so if you never get it then it's lost to the aether.

No, you go kill that dragon.

Plenty of time to level up in the post-game

Ooook. Bad idea. I got there with a handful of curatives just barely leveled to level 35 and there's no way. I tried for like 2 hours to beat that guy. I need to rethink, perhaps level up.

Maybe try again level 40-45. What difficulty are you playing on?

Just normal but I didn't bother getting the best armor or properly preparing or maxing out my levels.

My biggest problem right now is that my guy is constantly running out of stamina it's like a 60 year old guy trying to run a marathon without any training. It's like attack! attack! attack! Whoa whoa whoa! I need a break.

Didn't really have that many problems with any other bosses. The rock golem was a long fight but I won it. The dark chimera was really hard (damn that goat) but I got through that too. But I'll be hitting that damn dragon for like 20 minutes and just get the first bar down. Given that he has like 8 or so bars that's just a hugely long fight.

I think I'm gonna do some more quests load up on stamina recovering items and blast arrows and try again.

What class are you? I'd say Rangers probably have the easiest time taking down the Dragon. Tenfold Arrow plus a steady supply of stamina curatives is a recipe for success.

Magic Archers and Rangers have the safest time since they can just plink from far away and ignore almost everything he does (and Magic Archers have the awesome health regen passive to boot). However, my Assassin's Dire Gouge(?) hit that dragon SO HARD it didn't seem fair. Took me a while to be in a position to use it, but when I finally did it was basically instagib. I had no idea that move was so powerful since it does jack squat to normal-sized mobs. It ended up being easier for me cause the battle finished much, much sooner.

I didn't begin to appreciate Gouge until my post-game Ur-Dragon runs. Definitely the most powerful technique in the game, when combined with an assassin's other passives.

I'm a Ranger and yeah it's very well suited for the fight (don't see how you would really do it at this low level with a melee only class). And it did rather well. But like I said it wasn't so much that I couldn't fight the dragon it was more that I was just unprepared by the time I got to him. I had like 2 stamina curing things and like 8 basic herbs. I was able to get him down 3 bars but that took forever and I was running out of herbs by then. I probably could do it with what I have just hanging in there. But it would take an hour or so to do. Also I didn't have a very good weapon or armor either. I just didn't prepare at all.

Also I think I might need to switch out my two other pawns. I have a mage that does ice mainly and she's practically no use. And I have another warrior (my main pawn is a warrior) he doesn't help much either. I was thinking of getting a dark mage. But what of the other pawn? What should I get? Another ranger?

Get yourself a sorcerer that knows High Gicel. I've had one shot of that spell take off an entire health bar if it hits just right. As you can imagine, fighters and warriors aren't particularly helpful here. I'd make your other two pawns another Ranger and a support mage.

Started a new playthrough in anticipation of Dark Arisen. Screen dump time.

I bought the in-game item that enables you to fully edit your character and pawn.

I'm thinking of changing my character's sex to female so I can wyrmforge some female only items for my pawn. Are you able to just change sex, keeping all other settings, such that you can change back and be the same as before?

I think you'll have to start over from scratch, so I hope you remember what your settings were!

Does it show you your current settings before changing?

Yeah, most of the biggest things have a numerical value attatched to them, so you can go through and write down "Hair: 10, Face: 2, Nose: 5", etc. The only exception are the things on sliders, which you should be able to sort back out by eyeballing it.

Trying to bang out a game of Bioshock on 1999 mode before jumping into my 2nd playthrough. I imagine it'll go pretty fast right considering that the enemies don't really scale in new game plus right?

Also gonna go from my favorite strider class and try some magic for a change.
Is it worth grabbing for 18$ or just waiting for the expansion?
I'd wait. I think the expansion has all the stuff and it's only $40.

I'm going to start replaying this for the first time in a long time in anticipation of Dark Arisen.

Is there a handy list somewhere of the main things you need to be aware of to avoid snookering yourself? Some of the things that come to mind:

  • All quests (including ones not yet accepted) get wiped at certain points in the game, such as (if I remember correctly) when you enter Gran Soren for the first time, when you enter the Duke's Demesne for the first time, and when you accept the quest to fight Grigori, so you need to have accepted and completed all of the various quests before progressing at those points.
  • Don't bump into Symone during Escort Duty if you want to get a golden idol.
  • You only get one chance to give an idol to Caxton (and Madeleine) so make sure you give a gold to one and a silver to the other.
Are there any other things to be wary of?

Also remember that certain quests can get wiped without you ever accepting them. The quest where you return to the Witchwood springs to mind. I think you have to listen to that mob in the square in Gran Soren immediately after meeting the Duke.

I actually didn't know that about Symone.

Make sure you finish the eviction notice BEFORE you get to the mainline quest with Fournival. I didn't and was out all that money :(

I just remembered another one: immediately after meeting the Duke for the first time, make sure you exit via the main doors (at the front) rather than a side door, otherwise you'll never be given the chance to do Aelinore's quest line.

So I'm in the post game.

I slept with Aelinore, saved Selene from the witch-hunt, and rescued Quina from the Dragon.

Quina and Selena live in my house now. I looked up character information which says Selene is fourteen.

Is there a Chris Hanson in Gransys?

At least you didn't get Symone or Pip.

Is there anything special you have to do to get Ur-Dragon to drop Ascalon? I've killed him several times and keep getting Heaven's Key and Volant White over and over.

edit: Finally received Ascalon on the tenth try.

Do the original DD saves actually work in Dark Arisen? I thought you just get some extra stuff for having the saves on the hard drive?

Yes since when you start it up you'll effectively just be playing the original game. You access the new area by manually traveling to an existing point in the old world.

Awesome!

Borrowed the original from a friend so it's nice to know I'm not "wasting" my time by playing it :p

So I did it. Switch pawns out leveled up to 37 and tried again. The dragon has been slain. I probably could've done it earlier if I had properly prepared. I have to say though
Sorta surprised by the "post game" stuff. This doesn't feel like post game. This feels like I'm not done yet. A few questions:

1. Do I get more than one ferry stone? Or do I only get one so I can only go back to the surface once?

2. I just have to get twenty stones right? Do I have to fight the Ur dragon? Or can it just be any 20?

3. I've maxed out my ranger job and my pawn has maxed out their warrior. Should I bother switching jobs? I love the 10 fold shot.

1.
Jump into the abyss, when you cycle from the top, keep to the right to land on the stairs to the surface.
2. Yes. Only if you want to (it's a great experience). It can be any.
3. Try them all man, especially if you're only gonna play this game once.

Also giving
the twenty wakestones will put you past the point of no return. I think you'll enjoy that part a lot.

If you're only going to play once and never pick up the game again, I agree, try them all.

That said, if you intend on ever revisiting this character I'd recommend leveling up only in the classes who's stat growth matches your playstyle. Ronito seems to prefer the "rogue" classes, so I'd recommend doing most of your leveling as one of those classes (strider, ranger, magic archer, assassin). The fighter-type classes couldn't hurt, either. Warriors especially have a few augments that are useful no matter what your playstyle. I'd recommend checking the wiki and looking at the augments of the various classes and choosing the ones you want beforehand. I wouldn't recommend leveling up as a mage or sorcerer unless you really wanted some of their augments.

That's all min-max bullshit, though. If you want to try another class, definitely do so.

I'm presently in the post-game, deliberately not turning in the 20 Wakestones, so I can farm item drops, dragonforge gear, and max out all Vocations.

I plan to do Dark Arisen with this character before finishing the game.
