holy shit, what a badass...demon tries to stab him in the nads and his sword doesnt leave his shoulder...thats cold...ice cold

That is how the son rolls man! :lol
Seriously the more I stare into the pics to find faults of not liking it the more I am liking this game.

I especially like the realistic weapons and armour of the hero. The monsters have the typical overdone JRPG stuff, but everything about the hero's weapons and armour from size to details screams realism. Yes, the claymore in the pic where the demon's trying to stab him in the nads is massive, but that's because claymores are massive.

This looks like a game I could get into.

I never played the old games, didn't think I would like them at the time, but I actually really enjoyed Oblivion and am excited for Fallout 3, do the games sort of play like that?

I am wanting to be hyped, a mix of JRPG (which I love) and WRPG (which I am new too since I hate computer gaming, I just prefer consoles for some reason X.x) seems fun ^^ but I figured GAF would tell me how it is ^^

If you looked up the two posts I've made on the on the topic of RPGs you'd see I'm not a fan of the genre.

Two things though. This looks different to the usual Japanese fare. Second, also on visuals cos I'm shallow like that... it looks shit hot. Combine those two and I'm suddenly very interested.

I hadn't heard of it before the recent TGS list. But it's looking, like, near completion. Do we have any idea of prospective release date?

it's the spiritual successor to Kings Field (as said by the developers)

Isn't it awesome? Looks both different and fresh but the same creature design and atmosphere. Yeah! :)

Shame 99% will say: "King's what?"

Will wait for game play footage before I get hyped.
Yeah, but still, WOW :D

This reminds me of those Project Offset demos from a few years back. Where the f is that game?
Well not to bash the new game, but Project Offset looked WAY more awesome than this game. I mean this looks awesome, but Project Offset looked "HOLY FUCKING GOD" awesome, but that was mostly after seeing gameplay vids. But yeah, I'd like to know as well where it is

PO did look great...but actually after seeing the vids made me think...what game? just a couple of set pieces cobbled together...hopefully it sees the light of day though...great tech, playing crysis, could easily be implemented given current hardware...

Intel bought the Project Offset dev team. It's almost like first party support for the PC! :lol

They're supposed to be showing new footage soon. Last I heard, Intel was trying to make the game a launch title for that Larrabee (sp?) stuff.

Is this using Lair engine? :p

heh does look like that abit, though more consistant....

that engine could have been great, if it was actually consistant...some bits looked fantastic, other bits looked rubbish

Although I enjoyed King's Field, I wasn't very excited about this game initially. However, the more I see, the more I like. Something about the graphics look very natural. It's hard to explain, but it doesn't have that weird, sterile, videogamey look.

The best screenshot, the one with the staircase, didn't seem to have been posted.

This game is called Demon's Souls and it looks like this. It's so cliche, bland and uninspired that I cannot comprehend why anyone would be looking forward to investing their time in something so mediocre.

considering the avatar and the name, I am not sure if your lack of comprehension is entirely surprising:D

Yeh, I like that whole "you're nothing to me"-attitude that Dante in Devil May Cry was keeping up as well. That whole image is saying: demon had a shot, he failed, he's toast.

Oh wow.

Did I hurt your feelings because I said something mean about a game you think looks "great?" Get over it.

I think he just wanted to point out how wrong you are. Which is to say, very much so.

nah, its just statements saying 'I dont understand what you people see in it' make it appear as though your feelings are hurt by others having an interest in it...check your self

Just look at the facial expression of the demon, he looks pretty damn scared :D

Did he hurts yours? It's your opinion, get over counter opinions.

How many times have we seen this type of art style and game before? Need I again point out that the game is called Demon's Souls? I believe that was the subtitle of a PS2 game or some variation there of. It's such a joke. The people making this game don't respect the people that play their games and that's why they are making a game that is an affront to the game player's better judgement. We've already played this game a million times before. Why can't they at least make something that is at least interesting to look at?

Look at that garbage. What is that? A generic looking gargoyle carrying a sword? Give me a break. This is what passes for good game design these days? The developers should be ashamed of themselves.

Games like this just make gamers seem like immature idiots...

Oops, too late.

My opinion is the counter opinion. This game looks really bad.

Look B!tch I know that you are not interested in this game, but, my good B!tch, please be reasonable here... I mean, you have to understand B!tch, throwing around the term generic just because there is a gargoyle in there etc...B!tch, if you are basing it on the setting and inhabitants of the world...99.999999% of games use 'unoriginal' material as their source of inspiration... I mean the setting looks similar to oblivion here, but the art looks vastly improved. Seems to me you are just bitching since you don't like the style, and then using a rather generic argument

the screens looked awesome, but before my imagination start running wildly, I check King's Field on Wikipedia and Youtube. after reading a little bit about it, I'm interested. I can see the appeal of the game and willing to give it a chance. but my biggest worry right now is whether this game mainly a dungeon crawler kind of game?

I enjoy some dungeon crawler but I've never finished any of them. it's fun for a while but really easy to get gored. usually I rely on narrative, cutscenes, and characters to provide some motivation to beat the game even if the story is average or even bad.

SotC influenced for shure

lol It´s like some Sonyfans really believe that SotC was the first game with big enemies :lol Here a picture of another FromSoftware game on Xbox

Now to the game. Looks to me like a -generic WestRPGs (graybrowm graphics included) meets Otogi bosses so far. In other words doens´t look interesting.

I hate everyone that says a game is generic based on a couple of screens without ANY gameplay videos... :|||||||

True, Otogi 1 still looks impressive IMO. I think the comparison with SOTC is more apparent because of the dark/gray colours. Otogi is more colourful.

Maybe I just don't look hard enough, but I don't think we get very many dark medieval fantasy games these days. And when the game is a spiritual successor to a game which already was firmly entrenched in said genre, I don't see how one can label the thing as generic.

And shit, ignoring all of that I think the game has a pretty distinct style. Without reading what it was about I was scrolling through the pictures and was reminded of King's Field somehow, which impressed me to find it was in fact related.

As for the name, well, it's an English title from Japanese developers. At least it's not called Infinite Undiscovery.

this looks like hot shit. I don't care what anybody says, I loved all the kings field games, and all the comparisons between this game and kings field gets my panties wet.

Dude, you just need to go back and check Panzer Dragoon. Awesome huge enemies!

looks like armored core 4's engine, the grey, brown, blurry atmosphere. Hey it's fromsoft, since when do they make ground breaking graphics anyway

Because some of us have played King's Field games. You obviously have not, because if you had, you'd know that the appeal of them does not come across very well in screenshots. The series is about subtlety and atmosphere and amazing level design. Generic RPGs possess none of those qualities while King's Field has all of them in spades.

Other King's Field games (and Shadow Tower) did the muted color palette and bleak atmosphere long before SotC did.
