COMICS! |OT| April 2014. Truly, there is no shame in continuing to read awful comics.

Sounds good. Guess this is as good as time as any to ask for recommendations on CBR apps for iOS. (You can print this post out, Eric_J)

Comic Zeal and Comic Glass are my two faves. Comic Zeal is the better looking but I currently prefer Comic Glass. It's more feature rich. Especially for getting stuff on there.

Lovely Humble bundle there.

Also, they made electro's skin darker. are you fucking kidding me? That's hilarious in how misguided it is.

Holy fuck, they actually did that? Also, do you mean when he's in his normal human form or radiating blue electricity?

Because in Edmondson's Punisher run he looks like he usually does.

Humble bundle is having a pay what you want bundle on image comics.

https://www.humblebundle.com/

Considering you can check out some of these for next to no money at all I thought maybe someone would like this deal.

Sweet, I'm in on this amazing humble bundle, thanks. Going to buy some stuff off of Comixology.

Looking forward to FCBD. Took my son out last year (which was probably the last time I was in the local shop) so he'll be excited to do it again.

Thx for this. Looking to get away from comixology for at least a while so might as well try some other readers.

Oh GODDAMMIT Archie Comics! I woke up to find out that apparently the 7th Mega Man and the 3rd Worlds Collide have been delayed from May till late June. Grrrrrrrr. Now my plan to read the thing in proper order has become all screwy. I'm going to have to leave part of the 6th trade sitting around for like 2 months now. I'm really, really sad :(.

My order with the 6th trade and Worlds Collide 1 and 2 came in today to top it off. They're sitting there, mocking me! Why is Archie Comics suddenly so awful at getting out trades on the originally solicited dates? :'(

Well between this bundle, the Image Eisner sale, and the Dark Horse sale I think I've purchased about 20 books in the past few weeks. Got lots to read!

Also, I'd forgotten Uber is your secret shame.

I regret nothing! I've actually been digging it. And if nothing else, you have to admit that as writers go, Gillen is light years better than Nocenti.

Let's go at it.

Elektra and Iron Fist have only one issue out so it's hard to judge one way or the other. I'd wait one issue more to make an informed opinion about them. That being said, if you aren't really digging them, you could drop them and wait for some reviews.
(There's a certain hypocrisy here because I pick up more books, but I'm in the process of trimming my list down)

My attempt, where 1-16 are the books you 'protected' and 17-25 are my best attempts to fit your pulls in the space that remained :p

Please don't drop Harley :(

I ain't dropping Harley, yo. Fuck that shit. It's the $3.99 books that better watch out.

Anyway, here's what I ended up with:

1. Saga
2. Powers: Bureau
3. Invincible
4. Sinestro
5. East of West
6. Elektra
7. Lazarus
8. She-Hulk
9. All-New X-men
10. Rat Queens
11. Uber
12. Uncanny X-Men
13. Guardians of the Galaxy
14. Alex + Ada
15. Captain Marvel
16. Ms. Marvel
17. Chew
18. Harley Quinn
19. Red Sonja
20. Sex Criminals
21. Batman Eternal
22. TMNT
23. Velvet
24. Black Science
25. Deadly Class
26. Wonder Woman
27. Uncanny Avengers
[EVENT SLOT]: Original Sin

While I'm not technically dropping The Wake, I removed it from the list.... It's got two issues left, so fuck it. Snyder gets a pass. Also forgot to add Batman Eternal to my initial posted list, but it's been rad so far, so it's not in any danger. I figure Iron Fist and Black Widow will be out in trade quick enough, no reason to pay $3.99 per issue when the trade will be dirt-cheap on IST anyhow. Elektra, I'm going to give another issue or two before making a decision on that...

So yeah, I went a few books over my target, but I got rid of a good heap, so I'm happy.

Thanks guys. :D

Haha wow that's pretty mental, Alex Dewitt got off lucky.

Definitely going to try and snag one or two of those.

Mike Allred can do no wrong

In reading Milligan and Allreds run on X-force and having seen his art on FF I can't help but agree, love his work.

Days of Future Past was a let down, IMO. Not the greatest. The first Thor: God of Thunder TPB was fantastic. Absolutely loved it.

About to order the new 52 Batman TPB(1st) + Bendis' Daredevil Ultimate TPB (1st) + Deadpool Marvel Now TPB (1st).

Any other good recent relaunches that are good?

I almost want to get Uncanny X-Force omnibus HC but...that'll be part of some beautiful start of summer drop a huge full time paycheck type of celebration.

Also, are there any recommendations for specific Avengers, Iron Man, Hulk, or Punisher runs?

Well you gotta get the second TPB of Thor, of course.

The Punisher MAX stuff that Ennis did is really good as is Ruckas run. For Iron Man I'd take a look at Fractions run, it can get a little shakey near the end but it still miles better than the shit they have running the now.

Be aware that this first arc is not that good, but everything after it is really good.

Almost forgot, is the new Guardians of the Galaxy run good? Marvel Now? I don't have any experience with them at all and plan on getting This when it comes out in July but until then I might skip to the newest iteration? Recommended or no?

Well you gotta get the second TPB of Thor, of course.

They don't have it in paperback doe :(

Journey Into Mystery Featuring Sif was great. I loved the story and dialogue and the art was outstanding.

It got cancelled pretty quickly so there's only two trades for it but there was a complete story at least.

This one here? Interesting.

Which of those Punisher series would you recommend over others? Any that are better to start with? The only experience I have with Punisher is Welcome Back, Frank which I thought was good but not great.

Invincible Iron Man? Looks pretty good. Will have to add to my list.

That's what I've read. Debating adding the second trade to my order tonight as well but I'm not sure.

I'd personally just wait for the DnA Collection to come out in July. It's the book that made a lot of people fall in love with the team. I love the characters and the whole universe that the creative team made, it was really special.

I'm not a fan of the current Guardians run but if you can get the first volume for cheap, you may as well give it a shot. It requires no prior reading and the art's really good.

Yep that's it! Lots of fun.

oh god I spent more than I wanted:

DAREDEVIL BY BENDIS & MALEEV ULTIMATE COLLECTION BOOK 01 TP
BATMAN (NEW 52) VOL 01 THE COURT OF OWLS TP
DEADPOOL (MARVEL NOW!) VOL 01 DEAD PRESIDENTS TP
DEADPOOL (MARVEL NOW!) VOL 02 SOUL HUNTER TP
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (MARVEL NOW!) VOL 01 COSMIC AVENGERS TP
JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY FEATURING SIF VOL 01 STRONGER THAN MONSTERS TP

Hnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg

I'd personally just wait for the DnA Collection to come out in July. It's the book that made a lot of people fall in love with the team. I love the characters and the whole universe that the creative team made, it was really special.

Is that the one I linked to? Or a different one? Pointing me in the right direction would be really helpful if you could.

Haha oh well. From what I saw of the preview the art was fantastic. Hopefully the story isn't all that bad. And for ~$11 I can't really complain I s'pose.

Yep that's it! Lots of fun.

Good. I'm holding you personally responsible if I don't like it. /mostlyjoking

Payment for Comixology through the app is barely different, at least on Android. It's amazing that Google is letting them get away with this.

That said, the broken downloading that suddenly became an issue several months back is worse than ever.
At first, they'd go straight to 8%, then stay there for a while, sometimes minutes and sometimes a couple hours, and then suddenly go like normal but a little slower until they finished.
I've had a Batman trade downloading FOR THE LAST TWO DAYS.
This is on my home internet that almost never dips below 18Mbps.

I'd always go with Punisher MAX but that's just me. Ennis did a fantastic job, it's everything a Punisher book should be. It not particularly light reading though as it's violence and general melancholic tone doesn't really settle.

Punisher MAX is set in its own universe and Rucka's run is really easy to drop into with no prior knowledge needed.

Well I hope you like it! I know nothing about Thor and Asgard and all that, but I really enjoyed it.

Hey guys, this Annihilation artwork is dog crap. Especially the Prologue issue. This is some Fisher Price My First Comic level stuff.

It's been a while since I've read Annihilation, but I remember some variation in the artwork. Some of it was less-than-stellar. The omnibus comes out next week, but I'll probably pass. I'll be all over that Alias omnibus when it comes out, though.

So were a lot of characters in Ultimatum, which made what was done to them for the sake of cheap grotesqueness all the more awful.

Ultimatum happened because they were going to kill the Ultimate books, then sales picked up because people wanted to see it die, and Marvel was like "oh wait, we'll just reboot it." They've done this shit like three times now.

Yeah but Frankenstein is the best though.

I can't even disagree with you here, Nils. I think you may have single-handedly just gross-ified Future's End for me.

I'm digging the story so far. This is my first exposure to Nova, and I even like him. The artwork is trash, though.

Oh the dilemma. Scott Snyder, James Tynion, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee will be 2 hours and 20 minutes away this Saturday signing at a comic shop. Do I want to take the road trip by myself just to meet them and get stuff signed?

Don't want to taint your reading experience beforehand, book could still be good and if anything we probably know this is a future that won't come to pass. Unlike Ultimatum which had lasting repercussions.

A five hour round trip to meet some comics people, hmmm. if it was a con, i'd say go for it, but I would personally not make that trip for the average signing. although it is FCBD, so it could be pretty fun to hang out
