You can buy PS5 Pro + Switch 2 for that price!

This needs to be highlighted more. Could even get a base Digital PS5, Digital Series X, and Switch 2 with just $150 more than the 2 TB Steam Machine with controller.

- Small form factor
- steam Os
- Being able tp play indie games not available on PS5.
- I got enough disposable income.

Yea, SFF is for one, very expensive on PC in general. Mini-ITX builds always has a tax for every components, the special height RAM, the ridiculously expensive cases, etc etc. But the gabecube takes it to the extreme (at the loss of upgradability though)

I would also add the HDMI CEC is a differentiator compared to the rest of PCs, it makes steam machine truely a seamless console experience.

I ain't touching this with a ten foot pole, and quite surprised there's even over 20 peoples wanting it on neogaf, but good for you all.

Nope. Already have a much more powerful PC, so it's useless.

Will probably switch from Windows 11 to SteamOS down the line though.

I was interested to get one as a backup computer.

The lack of an audio output makes it unusable as a ready-to-use desktop computer for me, and its price is far too high for a backup PC.

Regular no for me even at the original price. But that's just because I can get a BeeLink for $350ish that can play the games I'm trying to play on a box like that. I have no delusions of playing anything other than the Metroidvanias and Vampire Survivors on such machines.

No (hell no, in fact). Upgradability is one of the main reason I prefer to build a PC. Steam Machine is mostly fixed hardware and the price is too high for what it is current "entry level" performance.
If I wanted a more compact PC I would go for a mATX system at most. ITX seems too much of a compromise.

For around the same price of the 2TB Steam machine and with current SSD and RAM prices this build is way better and I put it together quickly without looking for deals.

A 9600X is only $30 more and easy to fit below that price going for a 1TB SSD instead of 2TB. Storage is the easiest thing to upgrade.
RAM prices/availability change quickly but still doable.

The case is larger than the Steam Machine but still smaller than the typical ATX mid-tower while keeping compatibility with most PSUs, graphics cards and CPU coolers.

If it is dual channel ram in single channel mode then it is not configured correctly.

I could not recommend anyone buy it like that.

I can't imagine what that might introduce considering that very few people have had a rig setup like this for as long as I've been in the game.....

That and that alone is reason enough to skip even without the price. If you want a steam machine, imho, roll your own.

Hell no, but I would only ever have been tempted at about $600 with a controller included, so my expectations just aren't realistic given current market conditions *where 6 year old hardware keeps going UP in price.

Nope. Too expensive for my wallet. I'd rather top up my ETF's or buy SpaceX stock for that amount.

Also, 6 core CPU and 8GB GPU for that price is insane lol

You have no upgrade path either.

I game on Switch so I was kind of wanting to dip. Pretty sure most of the games I would play (dungeon crawlers) would run completely fine, however I cannot justify 1000 bucks (and that would easily reach 1500 or 1600 bucks after import duties and shipping) to play turn-based games.

I've been going down the dungeon crawlers rabbit hole too, but only researching and wathing youtube videos so far... Is there one specifically that you can recommend? I was thinking of jumping in with THYSIASTERY.

Not on a Steam Machine, I already have my living room PC, it's dead silent, eats the Steam Machine for breakfast... and I have the PS5 for convenience.

We welcome you to the dungeon crawler thread. I don't play on PC but I had found THYSIASTERY via Twitter and I dig the art. If you are starting from scratch there are a couple I can suggest: the screenshot I posted belongs to Dragon Ruins, a dungeon crawler for tired people, probably the most minimalistic dungeon crawler you can find anywhere. Also Potato Flowers in Full Bloom is simple but longer (~3 hours versus ~25 hours). Once you get a feel for the style you can go extremely deep, in both anime style (like Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society) or western style (like Legend of Grimrock 2).

Also last year I did the 12 games in 12 months challenge taking on 12 dungeon crawlers so you can check those as well, I recommend most of them.

I was get a 9060XT 16GB for almost $300 less. With that extra budget you could swap in a 9070XT for even more power. I also have 6000MT vs your 5200MT RAM.

Sure. The RAM was 6000MT/s in the first build. It was already gone the second time.
Those are builds I would made for myself or recommend if a system more compact than a ATX mid tower was priority, as I stated.
I avoid ASRock motherboards and the 8400F/8500G, etc. Half the cache of the 7600/9600, PCIe 4.0 and only 8 lanes available for the graphics card.
I also prefer fully modular (high quality) PSUs or semi-modular at least, especially when building in cases with more limited space.

I was trying to match the lowest Steam Machine performance and price but with a better GPU. Spend the extra $10 on the 7600x.

The case is a MicroATX just like both your builds. Your's is just a lot longer due to the difference in PSU mount where modular really matters.

There are always tweaks you can make to any build. But focusing on CPU and GPU will always give the most bang for your buck. And having a 9070XT over a 9060XT for the same price is a no brainer.

No, and I'm not sure who would want to. Frankly, I don't know how Valve isn't embarrassed trying to sell us such a weak, yet crazily overpriced machine. I have several PCs even a SFF one that is much more powerful than the Steam machine. I can connect any of them to my TV.
