I can't wait for Elden Ring, however it does visually obviously looks more dated and more alongside the visuals of Dark Souls 3.

It will be interesting too seen if From Software's next title after Elden Ring can even be close to the visuals of Demons Souls. Ill be honest, I love them to death but From Software is not really known for amazing tech, their gameplay, level design and art direction is what carries their titles.

With how good Demon's Souls looks, its very hard for me to go back to DS3, the 60fps is also a massive game changer.

What are your thoughts going forward?

So, I checked out the Souls series since the OG Demon's Souls and.... I hated it. I loved the music, art, aesthetic, everything. But the gameplay, bugs and things that people considered "features", etc. just DIDN'T click with me. When the OG Demon's Souls came out, I had started my first industry gig doing QA, and had been working there for over half a year, if not a year by then. The whole certain enemy attacks had no collision with the environment, but every player attack did KILLED me. In the end, it had nothing to do with the difficulty either, I actually loved that part.

But I wouldn't let myself NOT give them a chance. So, I bought every single game, and gave them a shot.

For whatever reason, the Demon's Souls remake is what made it click with me. I'm REALLY not sure what it was, but good GOD was I into it. I mean, of course there were improvements across the board, but something about it just REALLY clicked with me. Maybe because from OG Demon's Souls to now I dig grinding more? I don't know. I have no idea. All I know is that it helped me see the light, haha.

Bloodborne is the next game I REALLY want to finish, but I'm holding out SO bad for 60fps. But it's getting harder and harder to wait, so I may just say screw it.

That being said, good GOD am I hyped for Elden Ring.

From software has to focus on all the content, Bluepoint only really had to focus the visuals and not having the new visuals break the original design. I doubt Elden Ring will look as good as DS Remake. Elden Ring is multiplatform and that means compromise.

No shot....and I think that's partially by design. FS has their formula, their own preferred artstyle. Just because some studio comes in with a stencil and copies their work beautifully doesn't mean FS needs to take a hint from Bluepoint.

That's like somebody doing a more realistic painting of the Mona Lisa and then hoping Leonardo Di Vinci becomes their student so he can paint better.

What needs to happen is for Bluepoint to make their own original work. That's what I'm waiting for.

How good did Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 on PS4 look compared to their PS3 games? Demons Souls Remake's graphics are about what I would expect from them when they start making games for the current gen.

I expect Elden Ring will be a far superior game to DS Remake anyway though.

Well yeah, it's a remake, Bluepoint could spend 100% of their efforts on making it as gorgeous as possible, nothing had to be designed and everything was already laid out in a Blueprint. When FROM makes a new games there's so much more that goes into it.

The remake is mostly fine. Its baffling they went to such an effort to perfectly capture the feel of the original in some aspects while in others they just did whatever the fuck they wanted ignoring the original intent. Hope for their next project they get some actual feedback from the original creators what ever it might be.

As a big ftom software fanboy. I'd have to agree with you to be fair.
For this generation that's probably true, but if they are still producing games 10 or 20 years from now they will certainly look better than Demon's Souls on PS5.

Dark Souls 3 runs at 60fps on all current gen platforms.

FROM's engine isn't technically as impressive as what the Bluepoint team put together, but the art direction and design is stellar. (with the notable exception of the character creator of course)

Unpopular opinion coming: no From Software game will ever look as good as the tech showcase of DS Remake. And I absolutely love From Software.
If UE5 is easy to use, it might. They're not tech wizards, but their art style will shine on new engines.

while Demon's Souls looks amazing (especially Upper Latria blew me away), these 2 games are hardly comparable. Demon's Souls is a very linear title with smaller areas than even all the other Souls titles... and Elden Ring will be semi-open world + cross gen. so it's hard to say how a similarly scroped and next gen only titles from them would look like.

one aspect they always did very well IMO is avoiding obvious pop-in and LOD switching, which could be one of the issues that made their games peform as bad as they did in the past, but I really like that about their games. they were always very temporarily stable and had often a surprising amount of small detail on screen at once

Well, since I'm currently replaying Demon Souls on my PS3, and loving it (including the visuals), I know Elden Ring will meet my expectations with honors.

Lucky me ;)

They may surpass it IF Sony is backing them for their next PS5 exclusive title.

After playing the remake i'm just glad of how much the series has evolved, my rose tinted glass were crushed pretty heavily...

Also native from software art design >>>>>>> bluepoint interpretation.

The remake also had clear past gen roots, the models for the npcs and some monsters\creatures were not nextgen in the slightest.

I don't really care.
Elden Ring looks great, it's also a brand new game with 100% new areas, bosses, enemies, weapons and a much larger scope. Demon Souls is a fairly straightforward 1:1 remake of the smallest and most linear Souls game with the least amount of content, from 12 years ago.

I'd much rather have FROM continue on their current path, making games without crazy budgets and in a timely manner. Keep in mind FROM released as many games as Bluepoint during the Ps4 era, except all of their games were brand new experiences as opposed to remasters and remakes.

I'm fairly certain half the people complaining about the visuals in Elden Ring wouldn't like a From Soft that focuses on graphics while releasing games at a slower pace, with reduced scope and probably with altered elements to have a more universal appeal that helps offset higher dev costs and sales expectations.

If only Bluepoint Games could lend their engine to FS, having the tech AND their art direction would be HUGE.

Just a dream, sadly.
If From can learn to use Unreal Engine 5 they can achieve similar result to Bluepoint ( no joke UE5 is amazing)

Their old game engine is really outdated today but somehow they seems stuck with it..kinda like Bethesda with Gamebryo..which is kinda anoying...

Finger crossed they can adapt and learn something new in the future

Appreciate the video, feels incredibly valid. I mean, while I didn't complete all of them, I felt a lot of this ringing true.

My hope is Elden Ring truly does do quite a bit differently. It LOOKS like that will be the case, but we'll see soon enough.

Elden Ring is a much bigger game than DS remake. And it is also crossgen
Exactly. Demon's Souls remake looks INSANELY good IMO. Honestly the best looking console game I've ever seen, especially on my current TV. Elden Ring already looks beautiful, but technically we'll see how it looks on PC and the new consoles soon enough. It being spread out on multiple platforms means we could certainly see a standard visual outcome, but the art, environments, etc. could send it so much further, much like they have in the past.

I don´t need to play as a Warrior with Shield doing back flips. I´m not a fan of Sekiro´s Art&Feel and now they´re going for this open world garbage nobody asked for, where horses can jump sky high because of magic beans.

They will never achieve "Best visuals", no japanese studio will. Stick to the fucking formula you cunts, recycle the game with new worlds and one day :connect: all the worlds together instead of dis mediocre ICO2. If the game is more Sekiro and less Dark Souls, i´m done with them.

Gimmie Nioh 3 instead.

Demon's Souls R is a very good looking game. I can't imagine what a Bloodborne would look like in that engine... I don't think I would survive.

Yeah they're not going to get close with Elden Ring. It looks like a slight evolution on DS3/Sekiro, while DSR was an early next gen showcase.

It is an odd situation where a remake of an older game will look much better than their newest game, but Bluepoint had one job and that was to make it look next gen.

I half hope Sony buys them both and gets them to collab on fixing up that engine or porting to Unreal, but that's just a Hunters Dream. I dunno how they keep on keeping on with those frame pacing issues and why Japan Studio or someone was never employed to help them out. They make great games, but they could use a tech overhaul.

I don’t know man. I might be in the minority here but demon’s Souls back in 2009 looked really good to me. Superb animations and environments. Lots of effects and great textures. I remember thinking it was one of the best looking PS3 games at the time. Also, the variety of creatures and detailed armours was impressive.

Same thing when Bloodborne came out. Bloodborne was a graphical showcase. I just think Bluepoint by the nature of their work (remaking) only focus on graphic tech making their games look light-years ahead.

This still makes me wistful that it's not real and never will be. And even this looks slightly dated compared to UE5 now. I'm not sure why From is so stuck on their own engine, it has to be a lot of hard work to maintain it, would it not be better to take a few months to learn a new one.

I still can’t believe blue point re made Demons Souls so perfectly from the ground up for ps5. Them native 4K 30 FPS visuals are crazy.

Granted I haven’t been able to play DeS remake myself, but after watching speed runs of it I can say I don’t really like the artstyle, or at least not as much as From’s usual style. The characters look weird and all the particle effects seem a bit show-offy. I’m sure it’s as fun as the original, but I wish they’d been able to get From’s input on the art direction.

Both look quite average for being on PS4, but BB looks quite a bit better even though it was made earlier IMO. Part of that is because of the technical assistance they got from Japan Studio I'm pretty sure. When left on their own they're not exactly at the forefront of graphics. They're among the best at visual DESIGN though.

Fun fact: The engine that Demon's Souls Remake is using is the Shadow of the Colossus Remaster engine but heavily modified.

Elden Ring looks and is literally miles ahead of Demon's Souls. The Lighting in Demon's Souls grabs your attention because the level design is too flat. From Bloodborne onwards, the level and enemy design of from software are even ahead of Santa Monica and Naughty Dog. Afterall Demon's Souls is a remake of From Software's first game. Elden ring is peak From Software. Not to mention we haven't seen the PC version. Even Dark Souls III trailer showed the console graphics when on PC in real-time it looks much better. If you inject HDR through Special K even the lighting looks better than Demon's Souls. Demons' Souls has that Middle-earth games look, flat textures, high tessellation and quality lighting, the polycount increase is higher but lopsided. To amateur eye that may overall look better but that is all the trickery to put the old game in new clothes.

I think it's fair to be interested in graphics personally, but I don't think it should be the driving force on the foreground. But hey, different strokes, haha.

Technically Demons Souls looks the best there is.
But Dark Souls 3 looks better
