2026 Games You’re Getting.

Howdy sailors!

I sat my fat ass down last night and listed out all the games releasing between now (end of July) and Dec 31st and did a pondering on which ones I was going to get/how many I could reasonably have time for/actually afford

Obviously, no one has to go into detail like I am below, but it would be cool to see what everyone's kind of choosing to play and choosing to wait on as there are so many potentially high-quality games coming around.

To clarify, I probably will end up getting every game on this list, but I am more asking what everyone is gonna get day one.

Here's my top 5 -

Control Resonant

The first one delved into a favorite subgenre of mine head first - New Weird - and gave me a world, level design and combat system I mostly loved with lore I devoured like delicious slice of chocolate cake.

I think all the changes they've shown - melee combat, the variety in building Dylan out in an ARPG manner, the examples world and scope but keeping that wonderful New Weird genre tone…it's definitely my most wanted game.

Mortal Shell 2

Despite its issues, I quite enjoyed the first game. It definitely felt like the studio had a lot of potential to build on ideas and mechanics if they made a sequel. Lo and behold a year ago, they announced one was coming, and it looked great, but kind of went under the radar until a few weeks ago for me. The open beta/demo came out and a bunch of Youtubers. I trust regarding souls like games have done nothing but raved about it and how it's a massive step up. After watching a fair amount of hands-on with the demo, it quickly shot up my list as it looks like a massive improvement in every possible vector.

Wolverine

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. I think insomniac, without a doubt, knows how to make fun games. I truly believe they're going to have an interesting story to tell with the character and a good base for the gameplay. But, and this isn't implying it needs to be open world or bigger than it should be, I almost get the feeling like the game is going to feel Short changed or not have enough meat on its bones? I don't have anything to verify that Theory, except the gameplay we have seen, which is very little feels like something is missing, and I can't quite put my finger on it, but, insomniac has created fun to play Spider-Man games, even if their social and political statements are too blatant and obnoxious for me sometimes 😛.

Castlevania Belmonts Curse
Evil twin and Castlevania. Enough said.
The previews from couple weeks ago looked stellar. Metroidvania's are my top genre and this looks like a wonderful and modern return to its Metroidvania roots with plenty to bring it into the Hollow Knight-ification of the genre. And only 30 bucks at launch!

Silver Pines.

Metroidvania meets Survival Horror. Two genres that have always flirt in certain ways, but this game is mashing them together blatantly and I'm super excited for it! There was a demo back in June on PC, which I don't play PC but I watched enough hands-on to know that this game has a lot of potential to be something really special for stalwarts of that genre.

Honorable mentions/Maybes

Phantom Blade Zero
There is almost 100% chance this one ends up getting purchased. Everything I've seen about it looks incredible, the things I have read about it in regards to its world, design and exploration and variety of weapons and combat options has me pretty excited. I just look at the other games releasing that I put in my top five and had to make a decision so this one was dropped to six place, but I'll probably scrounge in my couch cushions for a way to pick it up even though I won't have time to play it 😅

Silent Hill Townfall

I would've actually put this one above Wolverine, but I feel like I don't have a sense of it enough beyond it feeling like a generic first person horror game right now. I feel there's a personality missing from what I've seen…I think the team doing it has a lot of love and reverence for creating a silent Hill game based on the interviews, and their Untold Stories title was great. I feel like personally I need to see a little more to know if it's something I wanna get day one, or wait for a sale.

Beast of Reincarnation

The previews they've been doing the last couple of months have really ticked my interest up. I am curious to see how it reviews and how much meat is on the game's bones; how it keeps its whole loop going and is it fun for, I think I read the game is around 40 hours? The combat, the world and the fact that it's not an overly massive open open world have me very interested.

Sinking City 2

The first game, despite its mini shortcomings, was a really wonderful diamond in the rough. The sequel strips away the open world, detective focus and rows it into a more semi world/Metroid Vania like survival horror game with a lot more optional detective work that is supposed to be rewarding, but not mandatory. The previews that hit a few months back seemed promising, but not glowing. I want to support the developers because I truly loved the first one and a few of their Sherlock titles. It'll be interesting to see how this one reviews.

Onimusha

I was really excited about this one as it was one of my favorites growing up in and the PS2 era. But, after seeing some more gameplay reveals the last couple of weeks and playing the demo… I actually felt less interested after doing so. I want to see the consensus on this one and how it all shakes out with level design and the full depth of gameplay.

I already pre ordered Control Resonant, DD2 Dark Arisen and Onimusha. Also, I will play Beast of Reincarnation on gamepass.

Thats It Stephen Amell GIF by Heels

My backlog is hurting me. I will only buy another game after I finish Death Stranding 2, Pragmata, GB Endless Ragnarok, Rise of The Ronin, Crimson Desert, Nioh 3 and AC Shadows, I bought all of them at launch and I barely played them.

Next year I will definitely buy GTAVI and Phantom Blade Zero.

1. Blood of Dawnwalker
2. The Sinking City 2
3. Mortal Shell 2 (Maybe)
2. Control Resonant
3. Onimusha
4. Phantom Blade Zero
5. Beast of Reincarnation (Maybe)
6. Star Wars Company
7. GTA6
8. Silent Hill Townhall (Maybe)
9. Wolverine, I might just rent it. I am still not sure tbh because I dont trust Insomniac anymore
10. Gears Gay Day

And maybe I am forgetting something but I think those are all the games I am planning to get for the rest of the year

I keep my Steam wishlist sorted for just his reason. Much easier these days with the calendar though.

- Lunarium (July 28): Isometric ARPG
- Akatori (August 5): 2D Metroidvania
- Fields of Mistria (August 5 leaves early access): Top-down farming sim with classic anime art (Sailor Moon!)
- The Sinking City 2 (August 18): Third Person Survival Horror
- Divinum (August 28): 2D Metroidvania (I recall the demo being more combat focused though)
- Onimusha (September 4): Third Person Action
- Magical Blush (September): Top-down ARPG (like Zelda or Mana)
- Silver Pines (October 8): 2D Survival Horror
- Tenebris Somnia (October 16): 2D Retro Survival Horror
- Phantom Blade Zero (October 28): Third Person ARPG
- Neverway (October): Top-down ARPG horror (weird but intriguing demo)

Too many games so something will have to get left behind but I dunno what. There's some other stuff on my wishlist that just say 2026 or did have release dates that are now "coming soon".

Edit: forgot about No Rest For the Wicked and Belmont's Curse in October. DD2 Dark Arisen as well...

Right now, I got Granblue Fantasy Relink Endless Ragnarok to finish, at least, building my main team.

For future releases there are: Onimusha, DD2 Dark Arisen, Star Wars Galactic Racer, and Phantom Blade 0.

My backlog is getting some attention and it is helping me from just impulse buying games. I will take things at my own time.

Hmm...
Still can't remember everything coming out.
Beast of Reincarnation looks like it could be worth playing.
I will definitely play the Ocarina of Time remake and Final Fantasy Resonance, but everything else is pretty much wait and see.

Control Resonant
Beast of Reincarnation
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse
PB0

Will buy these depending on whether I have time to play them.

Some day I'll get Beast of Reincarnation, Pragmata, Resident Evil Requiem, Onimusha and Forza Horizon 6 when they're on sale.

I'll focus on my 150+ games backlog first.

This is the way I believe. No sense in getting a game day 1 unless you are hyped to hell and back.

Generally in with you. There are some other reasons to buy at launch even if you can't play right away. If you want to support the devs (especially for niche games), if there's a collector's edition that won't be available or lower priced later, multiplayer games that aren't the same experience much later.

Control Resonant
Gears of War: E-Day
GTA VI
Zelda OOT Remake
No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 (bought in EA and have been waiting for actual release)

I might also pickup Wolverine, Duskbloods, and Castlevania depending on how they review. So far 2026 has been really solid and I've enjoyed every game released this year that I have purchased (High on Life 2, RE9, Saros, Mouse P.I. for Hire, 007 First Light, Doom TDA Revelations, AC Black Flag Resynced, and Halo Campaign Evolved).

Yeah very true, I can agree with all those cases.

Probably nothing, there's too much stuff on my wishlist that I can pick up for cheap to be spending $70 on the worst version of new games..
If The Eternal life of Goldman ends up releasing this year I might pick it up, that will be cheaper anyway.

But to be completely honest the FOMO on GTA might get me. It really depends on the word of mouth, if it's truly this generational game with amazing gameplay, visuals and story I might bite the bullet. If it's like GTAV with poor gameplay and mission design and the only thing it has going for it are graphics and production value I'm ok waiting for a sale.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

Agent 64: Spies Never Die
No Rest for the Wicked

Probably missed a few....

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is the only planned full price purchase this year (as long as they don't somehow shit the bed). I've already picked up the Switch² upgrade for XBC2, so that will get my attention when it unlocks in a few days.

There's a shit-ton of other releases I'm keeping my eye on (Dawnwalker, SW: Zero Company, FF Resonance, Hellraiser, DD2DA, DQ Monsters etc, etc), but not setting anything in stone until after they've released. Many won't be picked up until they're on a decent sale.

As always, my backlog of both retro and curren games is huge so never lacking in anything to play. 🎮

Already Pre-ordered:
The Blood of Dawnwalker
Beast of Reincarnation
Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve
Mortal Shell 2
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse
Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection 2
Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Expansion

Not up for Pre-order yet:
Trails in the Sky 2 remake
Stupid Never Dies

Probably wait for a sale:
Control Resonant
Dynasty Warriors 3 Remake
Phantom Blade Zero

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse - Not a fan of the visuals but it's Castlevania and I'm desperate for a good new entry.

Halloween the Game - really hoping to have a new asym game worth playing. Breakers is still fun but it isn't getting any new content.

Marvel Tokon - my FG rotation going forward is honestly just going to be Fatal Fury, Avatar, and VFVI most likely but the game looks fun.

I think that's it. I'll probably get onimusha but it isn't day 1 so I might wait for a discount. Maybe that star wars racing game if it isn't full of stupid.

1. Blood of Dawnwalker
2. Phantom Blade
3. Ocarina of Time
4. Duskbloods
5. GTA6
6. Silent Hill Townhall
7. Wolverine
8. Gears
9. Ace Combat
10. FF Resonance

Gears Gay Day sounds interesting

I was thinking of picking up the Bond game and AC Resynched, but I haven't been moved to yet. I seem to be in a gaming slump. Nothing on the future 2026 calendar appeals to me. I would've said Stranger than Heaven and Fable were potentials, but both of them have been pushed to 2027. The Zelda OoT remake sounds intriguing, but I don't own a Switch.

- Turok
- Onimusha
- GTA6
- Phantom Blade
- Wolverine
- MW4 (maybe)
- Halo Campaign Evolved
- MGS4 Remake/remaster
- Gears E-day

Probably forgetting some games but solid list already imo

FUCK!

I totally forgot about this. This is the top five for me for sure. I gotta go back and edit something out. I've been waiting for this game for years and I can't believe I forgot about it. Lol. It looks incredible.
I picked it up during the most recent sale, because I'm pretty sure it'll get a price hike after full launch in October.

I think Fall and Winter Steam Sales will dictate a lot of this for me.

I already picked up most of my Day 1 must buys for 2026, so end of year discounting will dictate what I pick up off the wishlist.

I might be Day 1 on Onimusha or Beast of Reincarnation, but haven't locked that in yet.

Personally mw4, with its ranking system, quality campaign, classic two/three lane maps, I've been faithful to COD since COD4 way back in 07, 08, 09' expect after prestige 1 I move off it fast, cannot stand cod hq, I don't want more than three perks, I don't need the cosmetics.

I'm also a Zelda guy been a Zelda guy since n64 so ocarina of time remake is a no brainer.

Preordered Castlevania Belmont's Curse, Wolverine, and GTA6. Everything else I'll wait for reviews. My most anticipated is Castlevania.
