I dont know..I'm probably in the minority here but nothing looks exciting at all. Looks okay at best but nothing that would make me say: "damn that's amazing!"

Yeah, i'm not on hype train, even with the "but have you played Fallout New Vegas?" thing, maybe NV (barely played it) aged.

But i'm happy that it seems they manage to make some improvements, the graphics and facial animations looks better than before, but judging by Obsidian history and such upgrades in a short time, they are definetely crunching up to eleven, probably the hirings helped them. IMO if it was released Q1 2020 while keeping such crunch, we could see a even more polished game.

Yeah the graphics have took a sizeable juimp from when the game was first revealed. It looked almost like a budget game back then. Anywya game looks great to me. Fallout/Elder Scrolls style RPG's are probably my favorite games now and this fits right in that style.

Personally, I've seen enough to like. For these types of games the *damn that's amazing* part comes from two refrence points:

A: How well I can actually roleplay my charachter.
B: Individual quest highlights.

And especially A: will come down to me playing the game myself. It's all in the execution.
Other than that the other parts of the game just have to be of decent quality and I'm happy.

I would be worried if we're drowing in these kinds of games in the AA/AAA market, but the past decade, theres literary just been New Vegas and Witcher with a similiar executed focus. (And there's still huge differences between the two)

F4 went backwards in certain departments, Bioware got weird, and 90% of the rpg indie/kickstarter evolution went more in the direction of emulating Baldur's Gate rather than Fallout/Troika.

So the action is at least good, and the assumption is that quests/story will be there because Obsidian hasn't lost it yet ...but ... the game doesn't really look good imo - like a 360 era game running on better hardware. Lighting seems undynamic (fixed lighting), and environments just need more content/artists imo.

Writing seems there anyway.

Does MS have a game technology group ? - I can't help feel with a ton of new studios they need some core tech sharing, capture studios, face tech, etc etc .. maybe even try towards a single (cutting edge) engine for xbox game studio's titles ..

This isnt a Microsoft game though. This game was well into production long before Microsoft bought them. Its also a multiplatrom game with another publisher, so i doubt Microsoft have given much money and resources to the game, if any.

Well yes when it comes to Obsidian the bigger question will be, how much will my choices make an impact and how are the quests but I don't think choices will be better than NV or any other game they made so I suppose in the end thats where my lack of excitement comes from.

They haven't as mentioned by the devs. The most influence MS had was demanding the MS Store/Game Pass release.
And of course legal transactions as the IP holder.

It's published by Private Division, it works similary EA Partners where the developers keeps the IP, but they also fund the development, don't know what was in the clause, but if it flops, wouldn't surprise me that the blame would go entirely to Microsoft, even if the game was already at advanced state and possibly millions in fine clauses if they had delayed/canceled it.

You sure there? Because I'd think at the very least Storm of Zehir, Dungeon Siege III, South Park it will leave in the dust.
And honestly the sidequest they talked about during E3 already has more actual options than quests had in any of their games except NV.

In addition to that its led by Tim and Leonard, both who had even more of a focus on choice in their careers than Obsidian ever had.

Its really the thing I'm least worried about
(though, I'm not sure its going to compare entirly to lets say Arcanum or New Vegas just because of the focus on polish they have and it being AA)

looks like boring borderlands
I think that if you're comparing this to Borderlands then you're missing the point. It's aimed to be their Fallout (3D era) with a new universe. And Fallout 3 to 4 have never been compared to Borderlands.

Breakdown of Supernova difficulty

Supernova is the hardest difficulty option in The Outer Worlds.
  • You can only select this difficulty option at the start of the game.
  • If you reduce the difficulty below supernova you cannot re-enable it.
  • Enemies have more health and deal more damange.
  • You must eat, drink and sleep to survive.
  • Companions can die permanently.
  • Crippled body and limb conditions can only be healed with bed rest.
  • Weapons and armor work very poorly at zero durability
  • You can only fast travel to your ship.
  • You can only sleep inside.
  • You can only manually save inside your ship and autosaves are limited, compared to the other difficulty options.

They're not fucking around on that one. I do like my survival mode difficulties so looking forward to it.

I'm curious.

Who the hell is gonna watch 1 full hour of gameplay? Apart from the high risk of spoilers, are people really not getting bored?

Sounds good except the saving system. Seems like theyre doing it just like in Fallout 4 survival...which eveyrone hated. Why is it so hard to add survival features like the need to eat and drink in the other difficulties? Modders did it easily. Seems like they're expecting this game to be fixed...erh modded as well.

Honestly, the game doesn't look good, I hope I get it wrong by the release, but its something that would definetely require months of delay with Obsidian crunching it as they did with their previous licensed games.

"but its supposed to be like New Vegas" Except that NV aged poorly on visuals, it was goody for F3 and two years later we had games like Borderlands with a better art and 3d crafting. I know that a game with great visuals and shit gameplay and content ain't worth, but it makes people think there's an effort in all departments with a imagined high budget, and OW doesn't even appear to have that.

While I understand that Obsidian have developed great games, this could be their first real flop, Microsoft will be blamed for it, even if they don't have the publishing rights (Wouldn't be surprised if millions in fine/IP ownership transfer would be a collateral made by Private Division), it makes me wonder what made they buy in the first place. InXile even with the Bard Tale IV not being well received, was making the sequel for the greatly received Wasteland 2 (which they also did) and still very away from its release, and now they are making a Director's Cut version of BTIV which could fix the issues.

Based on the Gamescom video, it looks good but I hope you can turn off those close-ups of your teammates/companions doing their attacks and I also wonder if you can complete everything without any teammates/companions. Will definitely have to do more research on this game once it's within a month of release.

To the first question, we don't know. Though it has been brought up to Obsidian. To the second, of course.

Human Enemies get shot and don't run to cover, and gigantic crates were next to it, they stay right there waiting be executed. :messenger_unamused: The one that don't stay still , (1 of 8 dudes) run a little sideways, the others run towards you.
