I'm normally indifferent to celebrity deaths, but this one is a stomach punch. He'll always be Brandt from The Big Lebowski to me. RIP.

Why do so many celebrities do drugs? Why?

Why do people do drugs? Because they feel good. Problem is a lot of drugs have gigantic setbacks. Anyone can afford heroin, shit can be extremely cheap. Being a celebrity and having cash to afford whats seems to be a limitless amount of drugs makes addiction just as bad or worse compared to non celebrity addiction.

Shocking, especially the cause. So sad :(

Tumblr right now is freaking out because of the possible implications his death will have on the filming/production of Mockingjay. I can't even. It makes me sad there's an entire generation who doesn't know of any of his work outside of the Hunger Games movies.

RIP sir, you will be missed.

There were a lot of people, probably on this forums, who were concerned about The Dark Knight when Heath Ledger died too. It's not uncommon.

even though he won an academy award, I still feel he was a very underrated actor by the general public.

Every film enthusiasts would know him, yet the casual movie watchers would never be able to remember his name.

I remember watching The Big Lebowski a couple months ago for the first time in ages with a group of friends. Someone asked what his name was, in a room of five guys I was the only one who could recall his name.

He was a great actor and will be missed.

I really feel PSH was one of the greatest actors of our age. He'll be sorely missed, by loved ones and by cinema alike. Rest in peace.

Any PSH fan who hasn't seen it should watch Synecdoche, New York. I hate ranking things that I love because I'm bad at it, but Synecdoche, New York is without question one of the top 5 movies I've seen in my life thus far. And, of course, PSH brings it.

This one hit pretty hard. Incredible and versatile person within his craft. He will be missed.

Questions of morality concerning the way he died, or the state of his appearance are petty at best. Thankfully there is a world filled with more creative people than the critics within this thread.

I'm usually good when it comes to knowing celebrities but I've honestly never heard of him.

RIP

Check out any film mentioned in this thread. Seriously.

Hoffman was one of those rare actors who I liked in everything. Even if I didn't like the film I liked his performance.

So what you are saying is that being a great actor gives you the right to use illegal drugs and dying of it. I am a working citizen so that is my contribution to society. I am not saying that i am a saint. I have used different drugs too but have not died of it.

Only on GAF would i see some shit like this. What the fuck is wrong with most of you people in OT section? Seriously. Go get some fucking help.

One of my favourites. Sad to see him go. As a fan, I'm sad I'll never see him perform in another movie or see the TV show they green-lit for him at Showtime, or that I missed him on broadway two summers ago in Death of a Salesman (my trip got delayed by several months).

As a human being, I'm sad for his family.

He has an amazing body of work that will be celebrated for years to come.

Jesus Christ.

Fuck, man. What a waste. Such a talent.

CNN says eight empty bags were found next to him? That sounds like a lot. Was he depressed or suffering from another mental illness?

RIP

He and Paul Thomas Anderson were the perfect fit

So much ignorance regarding addiction. People always use it as an invitation to not give a shit, it's disgusting.

Rest in peace, Hoffman. Brilliant actor.
