Haha, that'll show those people who were excited about an announcement.

Flop or not, I still want one too
Media Create Prediction League November 2013 (Oct 28 - Nov 24):
I still have no idea why any kind of microconsole is appealing, especially since the VitaTV can't actually play most of the quality Vita games.
Hmmmm.......Didn't coldfoot get banned for making posts like this (let alone you making a whole thread like one)?
Pretty much. It's a cool idea

I didn't mean it as a thread to call out members or make fun of people's reactions, if it's against the rules I will take it down. I remember just when it was revealed I thought it was cool but almost instantly realized the lack of market appeal for this thing... it was by far one of the biggest overhypes I have seen on GAF and I just didn't understand it. Nothing about this device seems like something that would skyrocket sales. Literally nothing. This thread was more meant to be a platform to understand the future of this thing, and what will happen now that it has tanked.
I didn't say I'd buy it or that I'm excited for it but I think there is a market.i await this thread's sequel when people realise that playing smeary artifact ridden PS2 games with half a second of input lag isn't all that fun.
I always saw it as something made more for American audiences than Japanese ones. A home console version of a handheld device makes no sense for that market. I figured the only reason it was released in Japan first was because it was a consolation prize for not getting the PS4 right away.
I still think it could do ok here in NA. Get Playstation Now, Vita games, Netflix, etc. on there and price it the same as an Apple TV and they have a product that I could see appealing to a decent amount of people.
What's the point of this? People were happy about something and they really liked the concept. Are we trying to make them feel or look dumb? Should people hold back enthusiasm and hype from now on because they might be wrong?
I'm sure everybody here has been hyped for something and praised it only for it to be a big fall
They will need to beef up their media support on Vita in order to have it compete though. Not only Netflix, but Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. If it's supposed to be like an Apple TV with access to Vita/PS1/PSP games as well as upcoming Playstation Now (Gaikai), then it needs the media apps to compete.
This is a box for your TV, costing $100, that will play PSP, PSV, PS1 digital games. PS1/PS2/PS3 games over PS Now. PS4 games remotely.
It's an Apple TV competitor that also plays Minecraft.
To do ok here, it would have to be placed somewhere noticeable at retailers. Unless someone is specifically looking for it, which I don't see why anyone other than someone who follows the industry would know of its existence in the first place, I doubt it will be a noticeable product for consumers to latch on to.
If the system and games barely get any real estate or notice, why would this?
Look at that Super Mario 3D World Wii U performing under GAF's expectations.Media Create Prediction League November 2013 (Oct 28 - Nov 24):

Now that people's emotions have settled and the thing is likely to die off, can anyone explain why people thought this was going to be a "game changer"?
People explain why they think so in the posts quoted in the op.While it probably wasn't presented in the best manner, why ask a question that was explained right in the OPwhich of course no one reads.
They shouldn't market it in the games section. It should be marketed in the Netflix streaming device section. Against Roku, Apple TV, Google TV, etc.
It should get called something different in the US. Like Sony Media System or SonyTV. Something to differentiate itself from a "good as dead as far as mindshare" system like Vita.
