Doctor Who: Time Of The Doctor |OT| 11's hour is over now... The clock is striking 12

How about Adric as the moment. A reflection of the Doctor's previous guilt as a way of navigating his way through his future guilt.

This is one of my biggest problems with New Who. They keep teasing deaths that are never actually real deaths. Rose was all like "This is the story of how I died" and no it turned out to be the story of how she ended up having her full family back and living in luxury and wealth in an alternate dimension. Donna was supposed to die but actually she just lost her memories and went back to living a full and normal life. Amy and Rory also got to live full lives in the past. Death has zero dramatic weight in this series because you know that they'll be fine.
Torchwood could have been so much better if it had explored the theme of mortality more consistently.

Yeah, both Eccleston's and Tennant's regenerations were slightly frustrating for me, as they only showed the new Doctors for a couple of seconds, doing nothing but shouting like a maniac. You didn't really get any sense what the new Doctors were like in those scenes. I understand (and agree) that the focus of a Doctor's last episode should be on that Doctor, but I'm hoping (and kinda expecting) that Capaldi will have slightly more to do on Christmas. I know that pretty much the entire script has leaked so some people here will probably know what his role is going to be, but I'm avoiding those spoilers like the plague, so please don't feel the need to enlighten me ;).

The interesting thing here is that for once we have a companion clued up on what regeneration really is and what it entails.

Spoilers!

Hopefully for those who didn't want to read it, maybe it's bollocks because it's the Daily Star.

It might not be, but hey. Daily Star.

Torchwood could have been so much better if it had explored the theme of mortality more consistently.

At the same time, though, Torchwood is a show with six principal leads in terms of people who work for Torchwood, and after 3 years only two of them were alive, and an entire (rather brilliant) arc of the second Series was dedicated to a 'living dead man', so that show was pretty liberal with the death, really.

Eleven's last words are a big enough spoiler.
That's not "one line of dialogue."

Those aren't his last words. His last words were spoiled a long time ago and they are
Love from Gallifrey
.

Yeah, why anyone would be upset about knowing
Matt's last fucking words
? Man, that's a real mystery!

Who said that those are his last words? You people are ridiculous.

RE the above, that line doesn't tally with what the previously 100% accurate leaks say his last line is, for what it's worth. But also -even with the Daily Star, this story comes at a time after journalists have already seen the episode, unfortunately, so it's probably right.

Regarding what the spoiler is about, if I had to guess I'd wager
young Amy, played by Caitlin. Karen's busy/bald/in America, after all, but Caitlin was at the 50th thing event, which I thought was strange, but if she's been back involved again...

Holy crap that would be perfect. But
doesn't she look too old be Amy now? It's been like four years, yeah?

She looked older at that 50th thing - they interviewed her asking what she thought of the episode - but she didn't look so much older that I think she'd not be able to carry it off if they dress her right. Pic from this year for reference. And another.

Also, Fiktion, pleaaaase edit the original post so the headline is in tags? Pretty please? I can understand people's feelings, that headline is spoilery.

Gah.. this thread has turned into nothing but spoiler bars.. lol. I'm here just holding my fingers in my ears going "la-la-la-la" until Wednesday. Or Thursday, even, I probably won't be home early enough on Christmas night to watch it.

I have to admit I'm kind of pissed at how everyone jumped the gun and decided to be extremely rude without even understanding what they read. But fine.

That's what I hate about it. People get too intimidated to even speculate about the episode, and everything ends up behind black bars.

You posted spoilers, some untagged and others, while tagged, probably shouldn't have been posted at all. Where's the confusion for you?

More pissed than all the people who came in here and accidentally read unmarked spoilers?

(Yes, informed speculation counts.)

You two have already made fools of yourselves by assuming that those were his last words when they weren't. Stop digging.

It's so painfully obvious that you just wanted something to faux outrage about. First it was supposedly Amy (even though I made it clear that was speculation by hoping it wasn't River), then when that got corrected suddenly you pulled the last words assumption out of your ass.

Admitting you made a mistake won't kill you. Posting dialogue from the climactic part of the episode is a pretty big spoiler.

What's done is done anyway, and it's tagged now. People who want to speculate still can in tags, the rest of us can carry on. No point in us all potshotting each other, eh.

To loop around to a debate from earlier in the page - I think Doctor Who in general has been quite bad about it with main characters, but with one-shot episode casts I do think it's been a bit softer and less brutal lately. I love a high bodycount! Cold War pleased me because a few people got stripped inside out.

Fikton seems to be getting unnecessary flak. Can we just drop it.

We are 3 days out I'd rather we all just discussed previous seasons and why riversong is bad.

On a good note, It seems Hulu has been adding more classic episodes.

Also after a first time watch of The whole Valeyard Arc it seems to me we don't have a reason to see his character again. It's plothole free which is good.

Yeah, this stuff was pretty good. I wish we had a fifth Series :(

Okay, it is time for me to bow out of this thread. See you all folks after the special aired, for I do not want any bits of my watch ruined by "Speculation time: Guess who cuts the doctor's arm off at 23 minutes, and who helpes him out of trouble at 27 minutes!". Even that can take away the power of a clean watch for my wretched, speculative mind. Sorry. :(

Aye, I'll do the same. See you all when Capaldi is swearing at Daleks! Merry Christmas all!

Only three days left until my Who-related mental breakdown. I really don't think I can handle saying goodbye to Smith as the Doctor. I was one of those unsure about him when he was first introduced in 'The End Of Time' but as his first season went on, I really warmed to him, so much so that I now consider him my favourite Doctor of the New Who era, followed by Tennant and then Eccleston. I'm unsure of where I stand with Capaldi being the new Doctor but I'm going to try going in with an open mind, as I've not seen any of his previous work, bar his appearance in the 'The Fires Of Pompeii' with Tennant.

Caught up with the last part of the second series and the Day of teh Doctor. Really enjoyed the special. Hoping for a great send off for Matt Smith, and really curious in how Capaldi moulds his Doctor.

Sadly, I think this is largely dead due to the fact that RTD was forced to move back to the UK due to his husband's cancer, and I think any Torchwood green light would require the US side of things again, as I think BBC One/Two has moved on. The only way it'd get going again is if Cardiff was willing to commit to it as well, and Moffat likely has no interest.

RTD's working on that BBC Kids show (with SJA people) right now, though. So there's that.

The only minute of Capaldi you need to see. I can't wait, god. I hope he has this much energy as the Doctor. Without the fucks, obviously.

On a more serious note, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGg0TYQ9edM Audio only. He's magnificent.

RE the above, that line doesn't tally with what the previously 100% accurate leaks say his last line is, for what it's worth.

On another note, something just occurred to me about those spoilers. They've been 100% accurate in every detail so far, but one thing isn't jiving with what we've heard out of the screenings.
Supposedly the energy comes out of the crack, it helps him regenerate and it also blasts the Daleks away in the process.
We've seen a few frames that look like this scene in the trailer. But if that's the case, then how can he
regenerate in the TARDIS?
That would imply
two regeneration scenes
.

Dead Dead Dead from what I heard a while back.

Speculation, Crack gives him new cycle, dies slightly later .. regen

Oh man, what's happening here. I haven't read all the posts above, so my apologies if I'm misreading or something, but I'm staying the hell out of this thread. NeoGaf usually is much better at discussing spoilers/speculation than this, especially knowing that everything about the episode is basically known and online somewhere at this point.

See you on the other side, Gaf.

Those 100% spoilers came out quite a while ago. Could it be possible that Moffat tacked on another scene so that
the regeneration scene would be different from what was spoiled?

If it does turn out to be the case that
there are two regeneration scenes instead of one
then that might mean that the old last words we were given are not accurate anymore. So to get that out of the way I will apologize for spilling the line in the article. As APZ pointed out, it doesn't match the last words we got from the 100% accurate spoilers before, but I guess I'd better acknowledge the possibility that things have changed.

For the record we've had what were supposed to be his last words for a month now and I've always tagged those.

Seeing that weirdly made me think, the only time you really see the Doctor go on a shouty rant, at least in the Moffat era, is a) because his companion is in danger or b) people are dying. So maybe you'll get your wish about an increased body count after all!

Though I seem to remember a rumour about
Daleks in his first story
right? That'd get the juices pumping.
