Torchwood could have been so much better if it had explored the theme of mortality more consistently. This is one of my biggest problems with New Who. They keep teasing deaths that are never actually real deaths. Rose was all like "This is the story of how I died" and no it turned out to be the story of how she ended up having her full family back and living in luxury and wealth in an alternate dimension. Donna was supposed to die but actually she just lost her memories and went back to living a full and normal life. Amy and Rory also got to live full lives in the past. Death has zero dramatic weight in this series because you know that they'll be fine.
Yeah, both Eccleston's and Tennant's regenerations were slightly frustrating for me, as they only showed the new Doctors for a couple of seconds, doing nothing but shouting like a maniac. You didn't really get any sense what the new Doctors were like in those scenes. I understand (and agree) that the focus of a Doctor's last episode should be on that Doctor, but I'm hoping (and kinda expecting) that Capaldi will have slightly more to do on Christmas. I know that pretty much the entire script has leaked so some people here will probably know what his role is going to be, but I'm avoiding those spoilers like the plague, so please don't feel the need to enlighten me.
However, in a spine-tingling moment just before he regenerates, the spectre of a huge favourite from the past appears in the Tardis.
Who says: “Times change and so must I but I will always remember when The Doctor was me.” And the spook tells him: “Good night.”
spoilers
I'm genuinely baffled at what people think has been spoiled. Is it the one line of dialog? Whatever, tagged it.
You don't thinkamu retuning is a spoiler?
Uh, we don't know that Amy is returning. That's speculation.

Yo, reply with spoiler tags too.
Ok. Even the idea thatis a pretty big spoiler.a character is coming back and when in the story it happens
Thing is, they're not even companions.

That's not "one line of dialogue."Eleven's last words are a big enough spoiler.
Yeah, why anyone would be upset about knowing? Man, that's a real mystery!Matt's last fucking words
RE the above, that line doesn't tally with what the previously 100% accurate leaks say his last line is, for what it's worth. But also -even with the Daily Star, this story comes at a time after journalists have already seen the episode, unfortunately, so it's probably right.
Regarding what the spoiler is about, if I had to guess I'd wageryoung Amy, played by Caitlin. Karen's busy/bald/in America, after all, but Caitlin was at the 50th thing event, which I thought was strange, but if she's been back involved again...
Holy crap that would be perfect. Butdoesn't she look too old be Amy now? It's been like four years, yeah?
Also, Fiktion, pleaaaase edit the original post so the headline is in tags? Pretty please? I can understand people's feelings, that headline is spoilery.
Gah.. this thread has turned into nothing but spoiler bars.. lol. I'm here just holding my fingers in my ears going "la-la-la-la" until Wednesday. Or Thursday, even, I probably won't be home early enough on Christmas night to watch it.
More pissed than all the people who came in here and accidentally read unmarked spoilers?I have to admit I'm kind of pissed at how everyone jumped the gun and decided to be extremely rude without even understanding what they read. But fine.

That's what I hate about it. People get too intimidated to even speculate about the episode, and everything ends up behind black bars.

(Yes, informed speculation counts.)
You two have already made fools of yourselves by assuming that those were his last words when they weren't. Stop digging. You posted spoilers, some untagged and others, while tagged, probably shouldn't have been posted at all. Where's the confusion for you?

The irony of this post is amazing.Admitting you made a mistake won't kill you.
To loop around to a debate from earlier in the page - I think Doctor Who in general has been quite bad about it with main characters, but with one-shot episode casts I do think it's been a bit softer and less brutal lately. I love a high bodycount! Cold War pleased me because a few people got stripped inside out.
At the same time, though, Torchwood is a show with six principal leads in terms of people who work for Torchwood, and after 3 years only two of them were alive, and an entire (rather brilliant) arc of the second Series was dedicated to a 'living dead man', so that show was pretty liberal with the death, really.
Okay, it is time for me to bow out of this thread. See you all folks after the special aired, for I do not want any bits of my watch ruined by "Speculation time: Guess who cuts the doctor's arm off at 23 minutes, and who helpes him out of trouble at 27 minutes!". Even that can take away the power of a clean watch for my wretched, speculative mind. Sorry.![]()
Yeah, this stuff was pretty good. I wish we had a fifth Series![]()

Only three days left until my Who-related mental breakdown. I really don't think I can handle saying goodbye to Smith as the Doctor. I was one of those unsure about him when he was first introduced in 'The End Of Time' but as his first season went on, I really warmed to him, so much so that I now consider him my favourite Doctor of the New Who era, followed by Tennant and then Eccleston. I'm unsure of where I stand with Capaldi being the new Doctor but I'm going to try going in with an open mind, as I've not seen any of his previous work, bar his appearance in the 'The Fires Of Pompeii' with Tennant.

Sadly, I think this is largely dead due to the fact that RTD was forced to move back to the UK due to his husband's cancer, and I think any Torchwood green light would require the US side of things again, as I think BBC One/Two has moved on. The only way it'd get going again is if Cardiff was willing to commit to it as well, and Moffat likely has no interest.
RTD's working on that BBC Kids show (with SJA people) right now, though. So there's that.
On another note, something just occurred to me about those spoilers. They've been 100% accurate in every detail so far, but one thing isn't jiving with what we've heard out of the screenings. We've seen a few frames that look like this scene in the trailer. But if that's the case, then how can heSupposedly the energy comes out of the crack, it helps him regenerate and it also blasts the Daleks away in the process. That would implyregenerate in the TARDIS?.two regeneration scenes
Speculation, Crack gives him new cycle, dies slightly later .. regen

The only minute of Capaldi you need to see. I can't wait, god. I hope he has this much energy as the Doctor. Without the fucks, obviously.
On a more serious note, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGg0TYQ9edM Audio only. He's magnificent.
