Firesprite: Sony’s Studio Liverpool Lives Again

They should resurrect that pretty amazing looking racer Studio Liverpool were working on before Sony shut them down.

hmm are you thinking of the Bizarre Creations racer instead?

Also a good chunk of the Wipeout team went to Evolution and are working on Drive club along with a good chunk of Bizarre Creations who went to Evolution.

I see this thrown around a lot but I don't think it's true. As far as I can gather only a couple of the Wipeout team went to Evo, not a good chunk as you say. Most of Bizarre went to either Lucid or Playground, not Evolution.

Given most of the key players have been scattered it'd be almost impossible to replicate the magic of Liverpool.

I don't think they'll start working on big games right away. If they do it'll probably be with Sony. For those who think they won't because "it's the evil company that close them down", what makes you think that Sony did it just to spite them? What makes you say that they don't want to keep all those guys?

Bizarre creations was working on that?!

yes, and this firesprite is probably the reason why sony renewed psygnosys trademark

No, they apparently want to reboot some old IPs and slap Psygnosis on them for the nostalgia (at least that is what I am imagining). Shadow of the Beast is developed by an indie studio. Of course Firesprite could do the same thing...

Not gonna lie. The promise of a new Wipeout game would automatically validate a PS4 purchase for me. Press it onto a disc and put it in a box with a slip of paper and I will cherish it forever.

If it's good, that is.

Also great news! & awesome logo too. ^_^

So who are these guys when we already have Sawfly? I assume Sawfly + Firesprite = Studio Liverpool, but I'm not sure where the big players from the Studio Liverpool days lie.

WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING AT DEMONNITE?

WIPEOUT HD2 BY LUCID?

DO YOU WANT TO GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK OVER HERE?
It'd just be freemium if it was by them. Fuck Lucid :(

Sony killed this studio because WipEout didn't make enough money. You really think they'll now pay them to make a new one?

There is no hope for a new WipEout out of this.

IGN be trollin'. This news just confirms that not all of the former Studio Liverpool staff were executed and some who escaped with their lives are now working together elsewhere.

No need for this. They did work for 2K and made an iOS racing game which featured IAPs That was almost certainly 2K's decision, and Lucid being a work-for-hire studio could hardly resist that decision.

I don't want to get my hopes up so I'm not gonna assume this is the case, but in terms of continuing Wipeout, it would be much cheaper to hire an external studio to create a new game than keep a large costly internal studio open primarily developing a series which has not sold amazingly since the PS1 days.

I'm not blaming them for making the game, but I am blaming them for building up their upcoming title as PGR5, only to be let down in the worst way possible. Wasn't made any better when the head of the studio appeared in the PGR appreciation thread and refused to deny any PGR being made.

Fair enough; I didn't follow any of that. To be fair to them I don't think they instigated any of those suggestions, and from their perspective it was probably a useful way to drum up interest and get people talking about their new game.

I love that their logo could be straight out of a Wipeout game as a team logo. Make Wipeout PS4, please. WOHD still looks amazing, can't even imagine what they could do on the PS4...

Bloody hell, that's crazily beautiful. I've got this game and I've never played it; I really ought to download it again and play it!

Dude, the best thing is, if you own WipeoutHD and the Fury expansion, both of those can be used on the Vita also. While it's a 30FPS experience, the tracks look identical. It's an incredible achievement and almost made the Vita totally worth the price for me a while back.

Plus, the WipeoutHD and Fury tracks have shorter load times than the 2048 ones. With the patch, you'd get into a race in about 25 seconds.

MAN I WANT A NEW WIPEOUT. HD and Fury are my favourite arcade racers OF ALL TIME, right up there with Burnout 3. Tied for first place. Man, I'd kill for another.

I keep seeing a lot of demand for a new Wipeout when the subject comes up (Not just on GAF, but many other sites).

Wonder where all that demand was when the series actually needed it.
