Seems like I'm the only one who didn't :(

Nice episode, commendable way to mark the anniversary. The Baker cameo was fun and Capaldi's was totally unexpected.

My heart was beating like a motherfucker during Hurt's regeneration. When the camera began to pull up, I realized that we weren't going to see Eccleston...then they cut back to a close-up of Hurt's face! And I was going OH SHIT THEY'LL ACTUALLY SHOW HIM! And then...cut to another scene. Goddamn tease!

All in all, I liked it. Good work all around.

But seriously, fuck Eccleston.

That's awesome who they got to participate in the Five(ish) Doctors.

Jackson and McKellan

BUT NO, ECCLESTON CAN'T BE TROUBLED!

Actually, I do think that little side remark in the live show was directed at
Tom Baker, given how he appears in Five(ish)

You're overthinking it a bit. It was just a plot device to let him make a cameo as the doctor that made sense.

Yes, yes quite. Although, I wouldn't put it past Moffat doing this is such a way where this could be an outcome. If it was just meant to be a cameo, he could have made it less ambiguous quite easily.

I think the point was to infer it was a future regeneration while leaving it precisely ambiguous enough that it doesn't write anyone into a corner in future.

Heck, even if someone kills the Doctor off one day then it's easy enough to hand wave away.

here's your christopher eccleston guys

Looks like John Glover.

I wonder how much of the apparent policy of hiring fans is a direct result of people like Eccleston.

Anyway, he'll be back someday. There'll always be someone willing to lend a hand to one of the old Doctors. It's a fine pension plan.

Even if that did count, and I don't think it does because he didn't fully regenerate, that Doctor couldn't appear because he's in Pete's World. He has no TARDIS, or doesn't have one yet (there was a scene cut from Journey's End where Ten scrapes off a bit of his TARDIS and tells Meta-Ten to grow his own). So he has no means of escaping Pete's World.

He did use enough energy for a full regeneration though, he just filtered the rest into the handy spare hand. It'd be a bit of an oversight if they ignored it IMO.

Just watched the "Five(ish) Doctors" it really was very well done and just now watched that 13 min making of doctor who again another well done piece of entertainment.

Certainly in my book they knocked it out of the park with everything they have done from the Drama Documentary about Dr Who in the 60's right up to the 50th Anniversary episode.

It kinda makes me wish I will be around for the 100th Anniversary of Dr Who though I get the feeling me living to be 93 might be a tall order :-p

84 on my part. Just about feasible. I do hope Matt's in it. I'm also looking forward to the special 100th Anniversary docudrama about RTD bringing the series back.

Lol same. You nmever know though, might get some sweet ass medical advances that become affordable enough and pushes our life expectancy up higher. Or regenerations.

I absolutely, bloody loved it. One of the best episodes in a long time. Moffat you are redeemed.

I thought they did an excellent job juggling the various things this episode needed for old and new fans alike. It really is a truly brilliant script from Moffat to tie it all together. Also Smith and Tennant were hilarious together. I can't wait to watch it back. There were two brilliant scenes in the cinema before the film started. The Strax part with the popcorn had the the cinema in stitches and Smith does the out of context, talking directly to the audiences skits so well.

One thing though, some of you guys on here are taking the Tom Baker cameo way too seriously. It was lovely to see him on screen and Moffat just thought of a funny way for him to be there as the Doctor and not just a normal person, nothing more.

My theory for series 8 is that (in my opinion) now that the Doctor has had 11 regenerations, the 13th Doctor will be on a quest to find Gallifray and the time Lords so that he can carry on regenerating in some way. I'd love a series where the Doctor is on a quest to find something, rather than the past few which have been him running away from things.

Loved the special, but it raises some interesting questions for how they approach things should Gallifrey return to the universe. Ten told the Master that he had to kill them all because of how corrupt and brutal they had become, namely as bad as the Daleks. Presumably as things now stand, lunatic Rassilon is still there along with the Doctor's purported mother and whoever else. It would be interesting to see how the universe reacts to the Time Lords' return, and what direction their society goes. I mean, the Daleks still exist in great number, won't the war start again at some point?

Well, they're still locked in a bubble universe right now. Who knows how, once the Doctor finds them, he'll hobble them before unlocking them. I have a funny feeling, knowing Moffat, that there might be very few TARDISes now - all destroyed in the war or something. Just the Doctor and other special people like the Master will have them I suspect.

Don't worry, you'll be living off augmented organs by then and probably too busy having virtual sex in neon cities to worry about Doctor Who.

The more I think about it the more naffed off I am Eccleston wouldn't even do a day. How much more complete the story could be if we saw that regeneration complete and then had one line off him. His first words; "What have I done...?" Would've been perfect. Miserable sod, though I love his version of the character. Alas!

Great episode, though. I'm sure plot-wise it won't stand much under scrutiny and will end up looking like a swarm of moths have gone at it, but a lot of my favourites are like that. Loved it all the same. Simply magnificent.

That really struck me when they cut away from the Hurt regeneration. I mean, clearly that's where they would've slotted him in even if he only wanted to turn up for a bit.

I always had that glimmer of hope that it was all just a bunch of lies to make the surprise even greater but in retrospect Moffat and everyone were far too calm and respectful. It's not gonna damage his career to shoot for a day for a 5 second piece. I'm sure he has his reasons but man...Tom Baker is 80 soon and even he put in a fantastic performance.

Fucking marvellous.

Moffat saw your demands for The Eleven Doctors, and decreed that eleven was not enough. The Fourteen Doctors, motherfuckers!

Holy fuck, that, in the cinema, with the Strax and Doctors bits, and the crowd going crazy... TOO FUCKING GOOD FOR LIFE

This episode rammed it home how much of a sour bastard Eccleston was about it all. Gah.

He'll be the new Tom, who was of course a miserable bastard about all things Doctor Who for years. It took him until last year to even do a Big Finish audio story. No doubt when his career is ravaged by age, like Tom, he'll suddenly be eager again.

Moffat (or Gatiss or whoever is in charge then) will have a chance, though. 2015 marks ten years since the anniversary, and I think it'd be lovely to try to get him for that. Him & Capaldi. Fireworks. Or even all four of them! I get the feeling Tennant and Smith will never, ever say no.

Thirteen! Loads of cheering at the end where I was, and a lot of Sonic Screwdrivers raised skywards. Magnificent.

If they don't stop showing it, then you can be damm sure I'll be there for the 100th Anniversary at 67 :p

It would be lovely if the fandom showed respect for what Hurt did and how his character ends up, in my opinion. It's a good fandom for the most part who don't treat every change to the character as sacrilege, so it would be nice to see a change where Hurt was now Nine, Eccleston was Ten, Tennant Eleven and Smith was Twelve when being referred to. Probs won't happen and Hurt will stay as War or DOTD Doctor, but eh.

Only thirteen by my count :p one of which is not technically a Doctor anyway.
