Twitch vs Speedrun Community Drama (update: Twitch officially responds)

Basically, headmates are alternate personalities living in one's head. On Tumblr, users FOR SOME REASON tend to have "alternate personalities" which are just characters from tv shows/anime/whatever. Some social justice warriors on Tumblr use these to allow themselves to be considered a different ethnicity or sexuality. Needless to say, they probably aren't actually suffering a disorder and are most likely attempting some kind of wish fulfillment.

To be fair tho, Social Justice Wario is pretty hilarious.

Know whats really stupid? The fact that reddit admins were complying with twitch and closing posts.

From what i read they didn't comply.
The first posts were upvoted by multiple new accounts being created from the same IP. So it looks like the posts were removed due to vote manipulating.
The current post is probably manipulated as well but isn't removed to stop the censorship rumors.

Ick.

I now associate a lot of junk I'd rather not know about with twitch. The PS4/Bone can stream to other sites, right?

That's exactly how it started. I mean, go read the first line of the OP's quote. A lot of people have said "Wow whatshisname got all his emotes removed but this INAPPROPRIATE FURRY GARBAGE IS ALLOWED?!"

So, ur wrong nerd.

Nope! I am fully aware of the outrage over the mod abuse. I am talking about how this whole thing started, which was stupid as fuck.

The outrage wasn't about the icon itself, but the fact that several streamers are frustrated that their icons aren't being processed in an efficient manner.

Think about it this way. You're waiting in line at McDonalds to get a Big Mac. You've already ordered, but you're waiting for the cook to actually make it. Find out you're waiting with 20 people and instead of getting your Big Mac the cook's making a McRib while out of season for his significant other who's waiting outside.

that's a little hard to believe since there's a screenshot taken of the twitch admins saying flat out that the r/gaming mods will shut the thread down for them. i find that the most surprising part of this as well.

Frankly I detest AGDQ. From the people to the super biased people in charge, the shady SDA/SRL people. Being EXTREMELY Biased towards what games get picked for AGDQ and all. It's downright stupid. But the event has become as bad as the chat in that channel.

God damn, G-Fex. You have said some inaccurate stuff before, but this has got to be one of the worst.

Also for those who are discussing twitch alternatives, hitbox.tv is the preferred choice at the moment.

Hitbox.tv auto correct changed it, lol

I dont understand how this is even possible. Thought twitch was a professional service (never really used it much). Why are MS and Sony even use this service under such conditions?!

Does twitch have any corporate sponsors or investors? I know from the Gamespotgate incident that when corporate get involved, heads will roll...so maybe expressing their concerns about who runs the site and how inappropriate they are will get somewhere.

Bit disapointed how it seems most staff members are on side with the power abusing mod. Not sure speedrunners responded in the best way. That aside, twitch chat is basically laggy live youtube comments with silly emoticons.

Sony, Microsoft, Take Two, pretty sure they've got deals with Actizzard and Riot too.

I have seen is twitch admins asking the threads to be deleted and a reddit mod even posted that they were asked to do this by twitch. But I haven't seen anything that suggests that they complied with that request.
The vote manipulation explanation seems very reasonable to me given the amount upvotes and attention this incident got. It also seems quite likely that the fans of the twitch users that got banned are angry and will do something like that.
Chris in the screenshot is saying that they will delete the posts because "I know they are reasonable" not because they promised him to do so.

This Horror guy reminds me of The Soup Nazi from Seinfeld

I didnt have much faith in Twitch to begin with (EU servers blowing) and this doesnt do it any better

Someone should ask them if they support underage zoophilia and/or censorship, or something.

Nintendo is suddenly the only non-ew choice. But then they've got all the Sonic stuff now.

How can you tell there is "vote manipulation"?

I can't Reddit admins can (by checking IP addresses, and the user history).
How can you tell there is "censorship"?
The vote manipulation explanation seems reasonable to me and i don't see any reason to believe the censorship theory (it might be true, but i think it is unlikely)

Unrelated:
I found this in the reddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1r49at/twitch_admin_bans_speedrunner_for_making_joke/cdjjgzw
It's a response by (probably) a twitch employee.

How can you tell this is "such a thread" where "vote manipulation happened", as you claim it is?

And how can you call an actual direct quote of a twitch admin saying that they're going to tell the r/gaming mods to censor a "theory"?

Good move.

Before I go: I'm not a Twitch employee or a furry (though I respect anthropomorphism in the same way I respect every fetish, even the ones I find revolting). I'm just someone who thinks that 3-day IP bans aren't as noteworthy and potentially life-changing as the tsunami of harassment that NeoGAF and other websites have decided to unleash upon someone whose greatest possible crime is that he made a decision that some or even most people disagree with.

People are acting like he went Tseric and just started banning everyone within reach. No. He banned people because he felt like they were in violation of the TOS. Whether they actually were is for Twitch--not an angry mob of 4chan teens with nothing better to do than launch harassment campaigns--to decide.

hitbox.tv is run by a lot of the guys formerly from own3d.tv.

own3d.tv being the company that went under owing streaming hundreds of thousands of dollars. so no, its not a real alternative. nobody's going to jump on that horse.

A Gaf user in reddit made a thread, it was deleted and the user banned. The reason it gave identifying info (public Twitch names....). Another that had the names pixelated also dissapeared.

We have a picture proving that Twitch mods actively asked Reddit mods to censhorship all the threads related.

If you want to continue ignoring the dozens of threads deleted in different subreddits and the picture showing the conversation, you're free to do so, but spare us the silly arguments...

Where did they say that?

from Forestl [+1][M] via /r/Games/ sent 2 minutes ago The upvotes that were coming in were from new accounts or ones that hadn't voted in /r/games before. We would be fine with the information being posted, as long as there are not voting brigades behind it.

Easily.
Chris said he asked them to censor. thats a fact. The censorship theory says that the reddit mods agreed to censor - i see nothing of this sort in the screenshot. I only see Chris admitting he requested, which the reddit admins admitted as well.

Two different posts about this on the front page of Reddit right now so I guess they're done trying to censor. Though one of them is tagged as false info.

Why does it matter who created the thread if it got upvoted by new/fake users?

We have a picture proving that Twitch mods actively asked Reddit mods to censhorship all the threads related.
I never disputed that. There is a post by a reddit mod confirming this as well.

They later explain that the false info is about the censorship and not the twitch thing:

I'm telling you that wasn't the alluded reason, there was dozen of deleted threads no only in gamig reddit. Twitch reddit also had lots of deleted threads...
Maybe I just didn't see enough of what was going on.
From what I have seen it doesn't look like reddit actively censored anything.
I still think reddit was flooded by a lot of fake users/trolls which caused a lot of threads to be deleted.
I really can't see why something like this would draw so much attention on it's own.

As far as I can see what happened was:
Some streamer got his emotes removed due to copyright claims.
Another streamer thought it is not just since Horror has an inappropriate emote as well, which isn't removed since he is a mod. So he decided it would be OK to make fun of Horror by telling a sexist joke (apparently this is considered normal behaviour by twitch users). So he got banned.
Lots of fans decided to defend their favorite streamer by harassing Horror and some got banned as well.
I am not saying that Horror was right or wrong . I don't think it's even relevant. The main issue here is how it was handled by the rest of the twitch staff. Instead of trying to diffuse the situation they let and even encouraged it to escalate.

Edit:

The fact its a fursona is only vaguely related.
I keep reading this, but it's literally the first sentences of the OP, and the imgur recap focuses on it as much or more by including fucking cropped porn of the character to incite outrage. Let's stop kidding ourselves that it didn't matter when every summary takes the time to specifically call it out and make it matter. And the reason for that is pretty obvious: focus on the salacious side involving a group everyone hates to build outrage, since most people are probably unfamiliar with anyone involved.

Which is stupid because their argument already has enough merit to stand on its own, and bringing that up only calls into question their motivation for doing so.

Like furries but extend the range to include all kinds of mythological stuff like fairies and elves and shit.

And yeah, if anything, the appearance of bronies have drawn fire away from furries (but not sonic fans who will always be hated with the utmost vitriol).

That's not too bad though, fairies and elves are still rather human-ish.
I guess people who wish they were Na'vi belong here?

Disappointing how unprofessionally the Twitch staff are handling the situation. It's like they don't realize they're becoming a global thing. You can't have an admin running around pulling shit like this.

Of course twitch admins would find a way to butt heads with one of the most harmless groups of people on earth (speedgamers.)

But even dealing with groups that "deserve" some kind of action (FGC), they tend to go about it in the shittiest way and air it out publicly in chats.

they've got that MS and Sony money now, so basically, we're fucked.

I don't know furries make it pretty clear that it's a fetish afaik. With otherkin, they actually believe that they are dragons or something like that.
