VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

No thanks....I think I'll stick with my original Vita for now.

I guess I'll pick up one of these lesser Vitas (that screen) once my current one gives up.

Still need a Vita... but the original sounds better than this? What a strange new product, maybe if it had a decent amount of memory built in instead of 1gb it'd be a different story.

1 GB is kind of an insult.

Yeah, I get that it's good enough for saving games but really, they should have at least built 8 GB in.

I am interested in that 64GB card at the right price, though.

1GB is for save files. Pretty much the only reason I haven't bought a Vita was because I didn't want to have to buy a memory card. Now I don't.

As a videophile who knows that black level and infinite contrast ratio is the most important aspect of picture quality, I pray that this new model doesn't come to the US. And if it does, I hope it becomes a colossal failure.

It's disgusting how Sony could replace OLED with LCD.

So when the remodel goes West, will it arrive in only black? The colors look great, but I'm worried we won't see them.

Wow, lately I've been lucky with deciding not to wait for revisions. I don't mind the screen downgrade and it being smaller and lighter is wonderful, but from a consumer perspective it's nonsense that this is the same price as the model that's being discontinued. WTF.

If I was still a prospective buyer, I'd wait for (yet another) price drop before getting this unit if I couldn't pick up the original.

Just stick with the OG Vita.

If this is what it takes to make it easier to cut costs, so be it. Anything that improves the install base is fine by me, it's not as if they're going to take my original machine away.

I held out! I held out and you all said I was crazy but now who's laughing huh? Huh??

Still not buying until memory cards bomba. :(

Wonder if changing to LCD helps with the 1hr increased battery life?

Not likely. OLEDs use less power than LCDs when displaying mixed colors, so an OLED helps maximize time between charges unless the screen is mostly white (e.g. web pages).

I suspect the increased battery life is due to a die shrink from 40nm to 22nm which was overdue anyway.

I thought that OLED was better than LCD for battery life?

Yeah, that's what I thought too, since OLED screens doesn't need backlighting. But Sony said the opposite...

advantages of OLED vs LCD said:
Unlike OLEDs, LCDs do not emit light directly, instead relying on a backlight to provide the illumination source and then modulating the light output. This has a number of disadvantages, including increased power consumption (because the backlight has to be on all the time) and decreased contrast (the difference between “black” and “white” is limited because some light still escapes from darkened pixels).

OLED displays solve these problems by eliminating the backlight. Power consumption is typically reduced to between 60 to 80 percent of that of an equivalent LCD (a major advantage in battery-powered products) and “blacks” are truly black because the pixel is switched off.

I don't care about the oled screen but it should have been cheaper if they had to take it out. I'll take one in pink though

Liking the pink color but the glossy front makes me hesitate.

White looks good I think.

When I asked for built in memory, that is not what I meant Sony.

1GB is a joke.

I was waiting for a model revision, but I guess I'll just buy the old Vita.

Glossy finish should not be on anything portable imo. I remember wiping my PSP so many times because the system just gets so smudgy. protip: Don't eat fries while playing the Vita :P

Wot? How much cheaper is it? 1gb seems weird, and if I want a Vita it better have that OLED all the vitabros are so crazy about

They have to be careful to not create the perception that it is 'the cheap version'. The changes will definitely be saving them a bunch of money, and it will enable them to drop the price when the time is right. For now, there are probably enough people prepared to buy the new model at the same price.

They add something that should've been in the device to begin with and we're supposed to be enthusiastic? They've announced a couple of games, I guess that's something (and imho by far the best announcement of today), but it's not the second coming.

What? Supposed to be there? Sony doesn't owe anyone shit so that false sense of entitlement needs to go. I never said its the 2nd coming but this move looks like Sony is positioning Vita to be able to drop price faster with the LCD screen as well as 1GB of space to be able to play games from the jump. People in this thread are bitching because its geared towards regular people and not them with a 32GB storage model with OLED screen for $99.

Are the start and select buttons bigger? If so, that would be awesome.

seems so. I recall it being a big deal at the beginning... but I don't feel like I ended up pushing them that much for vita games, mostly psp/psx games.

modern games tend to have menu on like triangle button anyways, and if i need to pause, i just hit the bigger 'home button'.

A little Novus polish #1 actually results in a glassy smooth surface that doesn't easily fingerprint.
