Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer [Up: Wii U + 3DS screenshots]

Looks fun. The villains give me a bit of a skylanders vibe.

If they are going for some simple, Mario Galaxy like worlds i sure hope it has a better framerate than generations.

It looked a little weak graphically, but I was surprised to see new types of gameplay. I'm a little concerned about the camera angles, though. I'm eager to learn more.

This looks... really awesome so far. Cautiously optimistic. I know the Sonic cycle has been broken for me but damn, I'm a litttttle worried since they're shifting to slightly different gameplay.

Gameplay will probably not be too different from the previous games, but I'm quite disappointed by the looks. I much prefer the ,,broader'' looking levels that often happened to be visually stunning compared to the simplistic Galaxy graphics with generic cartoon vibes. The level shown actually even looks lacklustre compared to the style Galaxy had. Sonic's model also looks worse than in the last entries, no?

Hopefully the other stages improve, or the final Sonic game bought by Nintendo is a more ,,traditional'' platformer. (meaning, Colours and Generations, not the shit before that)

That looks terrible which is disappointing because I was looking forward to it.

Yeah, I'm surprised by the positive reception. Was hoping for it to improve on Generations.

This does look interesting. I want to see more before I judge, though
I think I understand what you are getting at. My concern is that the art direction is targeting even younger kids than normal. It gave me a Skylanders vibe. I guess they did this same sort of style in Colors, though, and that game was fine.

Because having colour in a game means it's for kids?

I really don't get this complaint that I keep seeing over and over in regards to graphics. It's ridiculous

Good Art™
I'd be able to forgive that for 60fps, no-load times, etc. etc.

yeah i don't know, i know WiiU is in some kind of technical mystery from the beginning but it's meant to be something slightly more advanced (in term of ram and shaders at least) than a PS3. Just compare that to Sonic Generation, i don't know it's weird.

Surprisingly impressed, it's also the first time the 3D segments look like they could be pretty good.

Edit: Sometimes youtube comments can be great.

i bet nintendo made this game and gave sega credit just like when nintendo made sonic adventure 2 in secret. why you think mad space in sonic adventure 2 look like mario galaxy? tell you why because nintendo made sonic adventure 2 and they also made sonic-extreme but sega cancelled it because they got prideful and jealous so they made another game. also where is sonics fat son from last game? he was cool

Watched it again 720p. Gameplay looks really amazing, I look forward to see the level desing. The game still looks bland and blocky.

Cautiously optimistic. Not a Sonic fan by any means but I have liked some in the past.

Throw in a SA2 Chao mini game I'll buy it no questions asked. I've been waiting for that to make a comeback.

So this is the cgi for art direction comparison :

I don't know.. It's weird, probably really early or intentional but it looks pretty simple and lame in term of model/shader/light...

Even compared to Mario Galaxy actually.

Technical prowess aside, the actual aesthetic is nice. I'm glad this Sonic is routed in the fantasy world of the early titles.

Also, the antagonists look decently designed to me. They're at least something fresh looking for the series.

Watching the trailer again, it's obvious the game looks way worse visually than Sonic Generations and even Sonic Unleashed. WTF?

Looks like it was done by the Sonic Colors team.

Wow...that trailer was good. I'm really interested in seeing how it plays and how they implement the main bad guys into both story and gameplay.

Dare I say I'm hyped?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Guys, I repeat: loop while running is back, check at around 0:52 - 0:53

Looks good, if a little... Galaxy-y. But aren't Sega tired of Sonic's design? I mean, it hasn't changed at all since Sonic Adventures in 1999.

It's not color, it's the character design. I don't care how it looks as long as it plays well, but it's hard for me to say how it plays based off of that video.

The other worlds in the preview screen has me interested. I'm really hoping it's a good platformer.

there are screenshots? oO must've missed them

(I didn't like the stage they showed in the trailer... I was hoping they'd go the colours route. I guess I set myself up for disappointment)

Watching the trailer again, it's obvious the game looks way worse visually than Sonic Generations and even Sonic Unleashed. WTF?

It isn't actually worse, it just utilizes much simple assets which stems from the artstyle rather than from lack of effort. What, Sonic the Hedgehog doesn't look realistic enough? Do I need to post screenshots from Sonic CD?

Does every title need to be a technical showcase these days?

Gameplay looks amazing. And if the trailer is anything to go by, you´re running so fast, you don´t have the time to appreciare the visuals anyway. This game needs locked 60fps more than super duper high res textures.

This looks fanTASTIC. The announcement of every new Sonic game has been leaving me floored, this looks beautiful and fun as hell.

The Wii U renaissance begins.

I like the use of classic badnicks. Cant wait till they reveal new information.

Aways have had a soft spot for Sonic. I still have my megadrive from my young days.

It looks alright, obviously not a lot to go on from just this video. Where is everyone getting the no shitty friends idea? I thought we even had confirmation that his "friends" would be appearing in the game.

Also, I see a ton of edges I would hate to plummet off of repeatedly, let's hope that has been fixed.

actually you are right.
i don't mind the move on the side ( like ezio or altair does ) to progress faster.
i'm all for new mecanics in that scenario.

Grabing a ledge is not something i see doing well with sonic.
Since that wasn't something done fast it just kill the gameplay for me.
Sonic isn't associated with speed for nothing.

Sonic had something similar called the side jump or the wall jump and his main use is to take shortcuts to be faster.
that grabing part left me with a very slow impression. i don't like it.

Its quite possible the wall grab is there to replace just running headfirst into a wall and coming to a dead stop. You forget to jump in time when you come to a wall? Sonic runs up it instead, helping to keep the games pace. This would be especially important as a method to keep momentum if boosting is gone , as the gameplay sections didn't seem to have a boost bar.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
It's a bit weird that they aren't using the Unleashed/Generations engine for this, I wonder if it's just that the gameplay couldn't be done in it or if another developer is making this.

Looking back at the trailer over and over I notice....

- Boost-less gameplay
- Green Hill zone revamped in Sonic Xtreme fashion.
- Different speeds = different run animations? Like one clip he was running with hands to side like Unleashed/Colors/Generations and then running with the figure 8 animation.

Just from this one trailer I see they're really taking into consideration Sonic's older games and ideas and at least trying to make them into this. I'm just so surprised they took and the scrapped ideas from Xtreme and, according to this, are actually making them work.
