Amazing Spider-Man Sequel News: Shailene Woodley up for MJ, Villain is Electro?

What about Negative man?

Would definitely be interesting, but don't know if you could sell him to a mass audience. Might be too dark for the kids too if they want to do him a bit more justice.

I like Negative as a character though.

Taskmaster would be rad, but I equate him more as a Cap villain.

I'll probably take Scorpion, Mysterio or even Jack O'Lantern.

Yeah, Tasky's far from a Spidey mainstay, I think of him more as a Deadpool counter tbh. He's become one of those transcendent ones ala the Frightful Four.

Scorpion and Mysterio are legit imo. Lots to draw from for either with something that could stand unique.

Jack O Lantern is 90s cartoon fodder to me, hahaha. Would be hilarious.

Let's see: passionately hated TASM. Think Webb is not an interesting director. Think the hugest problems with TASM were at a script level, so an Orci/Kurtzman rewrite of a Vanderbilt original script deflates whatever marginally positive expectations I could feasibly have for this, despite Pinkner (who helped make Fringe a great show, though even that was supposedly mostly Wyman) working on it too. I like Woodley, and can kind of picture a "hey tiger" coming from her, but I do prefer the idea of someone like Jane Levy.

Sequel is shaping up to be maybe less shitty than the first reboot installment.

Kraven is the obvious choice, him or Kingpin (i know doc oc, but i wanna avoid villains from the first series for now) which they could get from marvel for i dunno perhaps a spidey cameo in a certain ....upcoming team movie ...ahem.

I thought they were going to stay with Emma and leave Mary Jane out of this version?

That sucks. They have good chemistry.

Kraven can't carry a movie, he's just some guy.
There's no way Electro is the solo-villian. It'll probably be him along with some other minor villain (Scorpion? Enforcers along with Kingpin/Tombstone? Mysterio? Vulture?) or just along with building up the Green Goblin.

The only way this movie can be redeemed is if MJ utters the words "Face it tiger, you just hit the jackpot." -- I know it's cheesy but for fuck's sake they took "With great power.." away from us!

No opinion on the MJ choice, since I haven't seen Descendants.

As for Electro. I can't really see him carrying a movie. I didn't get an Electro vibe from the guy at the send of TASM. If anything I would have guessed Mysterio with the disappearing act. However the guy clearly worked for Norman Osbourne, so I guess if they start building up Osbourne in the sequel and then have full-blown Goblin in the third movie it can work.

The first one is extremely underrated on here.
People in this thread...goddamn. TASM wasn't nearly as bad as you're pretending it was.
No reason to act like it was bad.
"stop pretending it's bad" and "it's underrated" are two of the more empty common counter-criticisms nowadays. the first presumes that the other person is unsure of their opinion or is putting on airs, the second says that by default this film has a floor under which it cannot be rated. both illogical, both don't actually mean anything.

TASM had shoddily written characters (particularly when it came to the one-note lizard), a poorly developed narrative that stumbled over simple ideas of cause and effect, a screwed up sense of scale (spidey saves maybe 10 people before the final conflict but it already a legend), and boring fight sequences with very few novel action elements (only one off the top of my head is the sonar-ish web).

I know.

I never said it was bad. I haven't even seen it. But I can see how people can be indifferent or hateful towards it. It's being compared to the two films it was sandwiched between and in some ways, it's not exactly a fair fight since people feel very passionate about said movies. Some people had an unreasonable hate towards it before it even came out.

I havent seen it yet but will pick up the DVD/Blu Ray. If people are still in the Avengers thread trying to poke holes in one of the most successful action movies of all time then you shouldnt be surprised they are shitting on TASM. Only took a few months for plenty of people to shit on Batman Begins , then admittedly it took longer but they shit on TDK and then tried to love BB , maybe that was the hip thing to do. Soon enough they will shit on TDKR and TASM , and still try and shit on TA , just ignore it, when far worse action movies exist and people take the time to shit on some of the best, its just the internetz lookin for attention, it has become self aware.

Kraven's last hunt disgress. And the Kingpin rights are tied to Daredevil.

He tranquilized Spiderman and buried him alive, then he dressed up as Spiderman to get inside his head.

Kingpin is jointly shared by Sony and Marvel. Also am I the only personnel thought the end credit villain was the Jackal.?

tip: stop being silly enough to 1) characterize all criticism as "shitting on" and 2) treat all criticism as only being done as a reaction to favorable opinions, rather than a legitimate reaction to the original text.

But Avengers was perfect so his post is valid.

I mean "underrated" as in: A lot of people seems to think it was terrible, which it was far from. Peter and Gwen's characters were fine, but I do agree the lizard could have been a little better. If a man with spider powers saves one person, I would say he is a legend. He has spider powers. This was the first SM movie to give him his sense of humor, which I thought was great. "High School Musical"-like? "Twilight"-like? Come on.

EDIT: I'm one of the very few that enjoyed this more than Avengers.

I wonder if they'll continue the story with the characters in college. I thought the High School Peter Parker was played out.

Edit: I can imagine a drama student who is desperate need for attention and in love with MJ, so he becomes Mysterio.

When you say that are you referring to the one scene where he mocked a criminal he thought killed his uncle before acting really aggressive and threatening towards him?
Because I didn't really get a sense of his humor aside from that snippet shoved in there.

Actually, the OT ended up being pretty positive with some very vocal detractors (I enjoyed it quite a bit). Now it seems like every ASM is completely dominated by people who think it's an abomination. Not sure why the huge negative shift, but I guess the people who liked it don't feel the need to voice their opinion as much or care about the movie enough to do so.

I think Woodley would be fine as MJ. She's a good actress, and basing what she could look like as MJ on one random picture is like saying Jennifer Lawrence couldn't be sexy after watching Winter's Bone.

I feel for the Visual FX artists who worked on him. I thought they nailed the look (aside from what's his face showing his... uh... face all the time). What a waste.

Despite enjoying TASM, I agreed with your post until you said that the fight scenes were bad. The fight scenes were what made the movie enjoyable for me, spidey actually moved like a spider and the fights had a lot of cool moments

Plus you forgot to mention the boring and forgettable soundtrack, which isn't surprising as it was boring and forgettable. Except for one moment of brilliance during that stupid crane operator scene

Venom looked great, he was just added in where he shouldnt have been. He needed to be bigger too.

That drove me crazy too how the rarely showed his face!!

There was one scene. Which the marketing crammed down everyone's throat to make it seem like he was going to be the wisecracking interpretation people were hoping for.

I don't think reaction was "pretty positive." It was muted, at best.
