Tanken Driland 5

What better way to introduce the latest (and perhaps last?) addition to the crew than with a story about a poor town being oppressed by a bunch of oversized roid monkeys threatening people with some kind of twisted sado-masochistic human pinata involving ridiculously blunt weapons. Not to worry, as the gang manage to inspire the townsfolk to fight back thus driving the gang out of the town... for about a week or two until they come back to rape and pillage everyone with a bigger, more violent crew. :(

The way of life is but a harsh and unfair one in the world of Driland.

Yuri Yuri - The Whole Bloody Affair

Self-referential, inter-textual, gaming theory, incest, faces, boobs. I can see why you all seem to like it; all the bases are covered!

I have attempted to watch this show once before, but that was the second season, back when I didn't realize there was a second season. Yep.

It's not that I took an instant dislike to it, but the fervour that seems to follow the show, particuarly in here, made me resent it a little. Maybe one would be inclined to label that as some sort of hipster mentality, but I quite like the experience of discovering a show for myself. However, as this thread has a tendency to do, you experience many shows through osmosis, and with that, I had already built up so many preconceived notions; so the barrier entry felt quite a bit higher than it otherwise would have been.

I feel like I don't really have to extol this shows virtues, though, partly because its been talked to death already, but also due it being so disposable. Once you've watched an episode, you pretty much know what to expect, but there is something to be said for that. If I had to equate it to anything, it would be the Anime equivalent of comfort food. Which in itself, is an analogy which works two-fold, because as much as I enjoyed this marathon of the first season, I had also grown a little fatigued by the end.

Formulaic it certainly is, but i will admit that its a problem that most likely doesn't rear its head when watched on a weekly basis. Although, I think the retreading of certain gags becoming insanely stretched towards the end (Chisastu & Chizuru certainly spring to mind), and would exist regardless, it still managed to remain interesting and largely fresh, barring one ill-judged misstep. .

Like I've said, I'm not sure if my main criticism is even wholly valid, especially when I watched the entire season in one sitting, which does tend to exacerbate the minor things.

I was intially dead set against watching this, but I'm glad I decided to acquiesce to theAnimeGAF hive mind.

There are no longer any sympathetic or redeeming character's on the Vegan side on this show. This show makes to really hard to root against Flit when it constantly portray the Vegans as ruthless, uncaring warmongers.

Rinne no Lagrange 7

That wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I can understand how this episode would draw criticism from all corners(even if I was in it for the pandering, eels are just gross), especially given the previous episode, but I dunno. It didn't really feel that out of place.

The nonstop apples in this episode and the fabulous splashing at the end made me feel guilty about starting to let Utena gather dust.

Also. I maded a thing.

edit:

Rinne no Lagrange 8

Okay, that was a lot worse. I don't know who's responsible for the loli, but they need to be taken out back and shot. This episode also totally deflated the previously intriguing and ominous prophecy(which was a real letdown since the prophecy device rarely ascends above cringeworthy tier). The
DA ALIENS IS FROM ERF
reveal was dumb and also boring.

Don't do this to me, show. I had faith in you.

Almost all the anime I watch these days is comfort food. I find it difficult to watch anything long-form these days :/

Hyouka - Episode 19

I don't think I can objectively tell whether an episode of Hyouka is good or bad anymore. This episode was certainly a complete waste of time in terms of actually having a plot or any actual narrative or character development. There was also no "mystery" to speak of aside from bored Oreki being bored. And bored Chitanda being even more bored. In fact, it isn't very different from episode 6 in terms of how vapid the purpose of the scenario is. But somehow, I think I might have enjoyed it. I don't know. I have a funny feeling inside me right now. :(

clearly you need to take in the deep meaning presented in this episode. which is making the most out of any situation!

In which crows find ways to be even larger assholes.

Hey lady! Nice wings! What's your number?

This is a really lively episode, even though Rakka's still in a bit of a funk. The animation of the kids running around is delightful. They're almost always in some kind of motion, in sharp relief to Rakka. She can't really relate to them.

They look like little blobs sometimes, but sacrifices must be made in the name of animation.

The episode also raises a lot of questions, specifically about those asshole crows. I mean, how do birds become such huge assholes? Is it in their nature, or were they born in hard circumstances? More seriously,
I feel like we have to trust Rakka when she says that the bird at the bottom of the well was someone important to her from her past. There's a reason the birds come here from over the wall, I guess.

That well also reminds me more of Haruki Murakami in superficial ways.

Interesting. IG Port has put out a press release announcing that Production IG has cancelled a production contract. Apparently they produced and delivered the content as contracted, but the other party defaulted on payment. The contract has now been cancelled and they're demanding for the materials to be returned. They're currently considering how to minimize their loss in this, and recover their investment. Any impact on their financial forecast will be announced when they have more clarity on the situation.

So.... which anime series is going to get canned, and who didn't pay up? Is Robotics;Notes the only upcoming IG show announced? Hmmm...

The really bad upscale job actually has something to do with that too. Poor blob-children, yet another bunch of victims to the horrors of Q-tec. :(

Well it depends on the animators style. There are those animators who manage to maintain character models despite the characters being animated.

Also, that looks like a problem with the upscale as well.

as we call it in the fiancial circles, dat leverage...

Hyouka - 19

Why do they waste so much time with boring mysteries if they could go full Oreki x Chitanda? An episode about a silly radio announcement is just ridiculous.

Does this sort of thing happen very often n anime?

Well, it's hard to say because most anime studios are privately owned, or part of a much larger corporate structure such that it would never be reported this way. IG Port is the only one I recall which has put out something like this before - when Xebec had problems getting payment for work on the last Yamato movie, and they had to take legal action. The reason is that IG Port is a listed company, and their biggest assets are Production IG and Xebec, so if anything happens with those two studios, it has to be reported.

Normally we just hear about animators not getting paid and bitching on Twitter about it! :)

which makes my point stand, It doesnt happen often and when it does the whole studio gets wacked. Its happens more In the states because of the Union structure.
