so wait, what was the point of all of the tarrlok/yakone story? seems like the whole thing was outside of the main story.
Ok, someone help me out here.
Tarrlok's secretary: male or female?
'Cause I haven't got a clue
I guess so.
I actually, well, agree with this. It's tiresome every week, but I hoped that they'd settled the whole Korra/Mako thing back in 'The Spirit of Competition', with them kinda just dropping it, and Korra being left out and jelly in future episodes. Made for better TV than seeing Mako unconvincingly be OTT in his concern for Korra, which seems to be Bryke's idea of character development in this show. Right now, all his character is there for is shipping, and Bolin for a bit of comic relief. Even Sokka, ATLA's comic relief character, had some good development to him, as evidenced by the fact that Councilman Sokka was actually quite well done in this episode.
Besides that, great episode!
The only thing that bothers me about bloodbending is how they seem to do it with just their mind. Katara and the old lady had to make motions when bloodbending (as did Tarrlock), but Yakone just did it handcuffed.

He had a third eye tattoo on his chi spot, though. Remember that tattoos are affected by chi (such as when Aang's chi tattoos glow in Avatar state), so it's not a big leap to think they can channel chi, and focus one's firebending through it. So it's not down to him just not moving and doing it. He had a little trick. It's not unheard of. Combustion man didn't do hand movements to bend.
DVR crapped out apparently when recording pretty much EVERY important part of the episode. I missed probably 45% of it.
How long until the episode is posted on Nick's website?
Probably just an air acolyte.Who was the air bender on the council during the flashback?
Probably just an air acolyte.
Its interesting that Aang wasn't on the council but i guess its to make it fair because who would want to second guess the Avatar?
Probably to give more credence to Amon's message that benders are bad.
Aang did get out of bloodbending.. The split second he went into avatar mode. That's is a great theory. He just resisted bloodbending through sheer goddamn will, something Aang couldn't even do.
WTF at you people perpetuating that Amon is a cyborg. That's an implausible theory that borderlines on ridiculous levels. Okay, first off, lets take a look at the technological progression in the series and where it is now. Outside of the airships that patrol Republic city 24/7, we can almost universally agree that the technology is more or less the equivalent of the roaring 20s, possibly the early 1930s. Now, then, let's take a look at Hiroshi Sato, who basically funded and created ALL of the Equalists' technology, and his mechs. Their big, bulky, and don't have many fine pivot points, and by our standards would be extremely primitive. And most of all, have to be controlled by levers.
Now Amon. He has absolutely fine movement as if he were human. Remember how he practically danced around that one guy's lightning attack and subdued him with extreme agility and ease, before he took his bending away. His hands went into a very precise position and bam! Bending taking away. If we were to accept Amon as a cyborg then, we'd also have to believe that their exists not only technology to make him appear and bend as if he was human, but also have the energy source (in some way like Tony Stark) that can "power" his cybernetics.
And their's also this to consider: Even in 2012, we still don't have the technology to make a cyborg akin to the ones depicted in fiction. Not even close. To say the Lok universe, can create a lifelike cyborg, with the dexterity and ergonomically accurate as Amon displayed in all of his appearances, is for, a lack of a better word, completely and utterly absurd.
Except Amon is definitely doing a blood bending/Vader force grab in the trailer and Mako and Korra are both twisted and flinching like they are being blood bent.
I am somewhat surprised but in the back of my mind I always figured Amon was a bender.
Was there a full moon in this episode? The lawyer did say Yakone didn't bloodbend during a full moon. I thought it was Yakone just playing the legend to his benefit.
Hmm what if
Amon isn't sealing their bending, he's stealing it? Think about the kind of people he's been taking bending away from. Champions, crime lords, unique benders. Some of the best benders in the city
So are you saying he is trying to turn himself into an Avatar?
I wonder if they're going to flesh out the ULTRA BLOODBENDING thing any more. It seems kinda naff to just put it down to "I guess he was born with some amazing powers"
They arent particularly strong benders. The fact that his son can bloodbend without a full moon means that its solely a genetic thing. Why can't they say that?
It's been established that some benders are stronger than others. Not every earth bender can metal bend, not every fire bender can lightning bend, not every water bender can blood bend.
During the full moon, water benders get a power boost that lets them do things they otherwise can't. Tarrlok and Yakone simply being really strong benders should be enough to allow them to blood bend without needing the power boost of the full moon.

I feel that Tenzin and Lin are the ACTUAL Team Avatar. They're the masters that are actually useful to Korra.
Yakone seemed to be at least manipulating his hands a little bit while cuffed but I agree they were pushing it. Maybe the art was developed more that such wide movement weren't necessary.

I'm really hoping there's something more to this bloodbending than Yakone/Tarrlok being exceptionally powerful. Either that, or I hope it's something that many waterbenders can do with training and focus, like metalbending.
So Aang took Yakone's bending away and this way brought balance to the world. Now Amon took Tarrlock's bending away and is bringing balance to the world. I wonder what happened during his trip to the spirit world that he got so much power. By now it seems obvious he has an unbendable will, which allows him to spiritbend and resist bloodbending. I wonder who has the most unbendable will, Amon or Korra. Who is the solution foor Republic City and the world?
Great episode otherwise. Korra knew she should run an away from Amon, Lin again proved to be a bad ass. The old Gaang was cool all grown up. I agree though that Bolin and Mako are mostly useless, as is Asami and the whole love triangle. Doesn't really add much, but doesn't detract much either. Apart from much need air time.

Also to get the ability and threat that Amon truly poses over with the audience.
Amon is so fucking amazing. Creepy, mysterious, and he actually kind of has a point.
Every time he appears... just standing there, staring at his target, unflinching. Hard as nails.
Sylar.
I considered this myself a while ago but there was never any indication that it was happening. We still don't know how Amon is so agile and seemingly uses air bending forms to dodge attacks.
Maybe. But in that case tarrlok would have been a child for yakone to have taught him before the avatar took away his powers.I thought the implication was that Yakone taught him.

Too bad he said nothing about his space sword![]()
