fuck this implied shipping/relationship shit and focus more on older Aang, Sokka and Toph :)

Hilarious that Sokka and Toph still have glimpses of their younger self in them (Sokka with dat Combustion Man/Boomerang reference)

It's not even about the shipping. It's about how terrible Team Avatar is in Legend of Korra.

I think the shipping, in many ways, defines this Team Avatar though (moreso than even in ATLA, where it was pretty obviously Kataang from episode 1 right through to the finale kiss, and it was largely ignored for other character development instead), and how its handled makes Mako look like a twat.

I think the desire for them to put a shipping element into the show, and make it central to new Team Avatar has made the characters rather two-dimensional (i.e. Mako the tall, dark handsome one; Bolin the jokester who never stood a chance). You can argue that it's not the major contributing factor to them not being as good as ATLA's, but you'd be wrong. Without it, it'd probably give room for them to have other problems. Perhaps they could've focussed an episode on Mako and Bolin's bending triad past instead of relationship stuff.

Off the top of my head, instead of going through all the kissing and crying (as funny as Bolin's tears were), they could've had a pro-bending plot around matchfixing, with one of their old triad pals trying to get them to throw a match or something. Sounds a lot more interesting than "feels" to me, would've fleshed out Mako and Bolin a lot better, and also given us an unprecedented look at the bending triads, which is something we haven't seen yet.

I just want to say how refreshing it is that Lin cares for, and actively sought to rescue the metalbending cops. In most shows the faceless redshirts would have been forgotten forever right after they fell in battle and never mentioned again.

yeah, sokka was still hilarious. they sounded a lot younger than they were though. youd think they were in their 20s

now i wonder whos going to replace tarlokk in the council. they need a waterbender representative to fill that space.

I think what surprised me the most was the episode playing through the credits. Didn't think I'd ever see that in a Nickelodeon show. I really love the aesthetic growth the series has gone through from cartoon to high quality show/anime.

Specifically a Northern Water Tribe representative. They still got their no-name southern representative there.

Tenzin will probably become the new Chairman I imagine.

It depends on who their VO's were as i could some of them returning and sounding like that age in the process (eg Aang's VO).

Aang looks pretty boss on his bigger scooter.

They did it last week as well.

Seems Nick is giving as much time Korra can get in the time slot.

Nick has been doing that for their shows lately. I don't like it, it makes it feel cheap and rushed. You know it only exists because they want to show full ads in the timeslot that used to be taken up by the credits.

Hey guys, speaking of shipping how about that Amon huh? Swooped right in to save the day.

J/K. But I feel like I'm about to join his fanclub. lol.

Huh, I didn't notice. And I'm glad Nickelodeon had decided to cultivate the series now rather than just trying to profit off of it in the short term.

Why was the next episode preview talking about a 1 hour finale? Isn't there 3 episodes left?

One episode next week and two combined into a season finale the week after.

What. No. I think you got that backwards. They aren't taking time from the show by shoving the credits into the regular showtime; they're letting the show continue on through the credits.

There should be 3 so one next week but they might be hyping it up from early since its the finale.

It was also the same on last week's episode. I was very impressed.

I think Tenzin becoming the new chairman is a given, unless being chairman is a rotational thing, in which case whoever is next in line is (again, though, probably Tenzin).

As for who will replace Tarrlok. Maybe no one? I have a feeling the Republic City council will be replaced by the end of this season. It's proven to pretty much be the source of many problems for non-benders, especially when it's unelected and bottomfeeders like Tarrlok can get on it.

Bzzzt! Wrong! It's so they can stick more in the episode.

Spoiler from the finale preview:
Look at this pic and tell me that when Korra's eye opens again, it's going to be glowing blue. I fucking know it.

Given whats gonna happen in the next episode (going by the description) and the 1 hour finale they might have no time to be dealing with that imo.

Amon is blowing my mind, goddamn.

Kinda want to find out why no one knew Tarlock was Yakones son. You'd think they'd background check the council members...

And total avatar state/korra using air bending next episode.

He's probably either secret or he was the product of an affair.

Yeah, that's more of a Book Two thing at this point, I think. Honestly, after all this shit goes down, it would be crazy if Korra just restored the status-quo. It's obviously allowed lots of unbalanced things like Amon and his fringe group going off the rails, and also crazy bloodbenders like Tarrlok able to have significant power over masses of non-benders who he doesn't even pretend to empathise with.

In this kind of era, background checks are probably a lot harder. No computers, no immediate access to information. Considering his abilities, it's not farfetched to think Tarrlok could forge any records as necessary to create a new identity for himself.

As for Korra using the Avatar state, that won't be in next week's episode. They're saving it for the finale.

I agree that some changes should be made after this is done due to their role (which is unfortunate since Sokka was on it at one point and he isn't a bender) plus those other members are fucking idiots who can't think for themselves apparently

I could have sworn basically he said as much with his "i had to be someone different line"?

The real question: Is Korra going to manage to do any air bending this season?

it doesn't look like she can do it in the clip and i might expect it to appear at that last scene shown.
If she doesn't that could somewhat indicate that she doesn't feel that she's a failure of an Avatar anymore (plus she finally linked with Aang as well) and needs to deal with this issue.

we'll see though

Somebody on TVTropes posted the adult Gang VAs and Yakone
Aang- D.B. Sweeny
Toph- Kate Higgins
Sokka- Chris Hardwick
Yakone- Clancy Brown

First off, Lex Luthor? That's awesome.

Second off, wait, really? I thought the three Team Avatar characters were voiced by the original actors trying to sound older. That's what it sounded like to me, anyway. Both 40 year old Aang and 43 year old Sokka sounded like Aang and Sokka, but they didn't sound like dudes in their 40s. That's vaguely disappointing.

Dude, Aang's VO is a kid. There's no way he could voice an adult.

Did Amon air bend while coming out of Korra's ice attack?

Good Episode though, Amon is boss.

Also, I thought we were done with Korra - Mako issue, but it's back. And doesn't make any sense to me.

I'm somewhat disappointed tbh (except for Yakone) :(

I think that was more in relation to how his father tried to control the city through the criminal underworld, whereas Tarrlok wanted to control the city through the authorities.

Well that could be another intepretation, cool.

Dude is about 20 now so its possible but that could be a combination of him and/or Bryan and crew not wanting to do it

I hope we get more of an explaination for how mass bloodbending works. Sokka floated the point that exceptional benders come and go, bringing new forms of bending with them. And while that's true, Toph didn't invent metalbending solely through virtue of being the greatest metalbender. In this case she realized that the mineral impurities in the metal could be earthbent. I'm sure being an exceptional waterbender helps Yakone bloodbend without the power boost from the full moon, but how was he able to do it to so many at once and without moving?

we'll see though

Book 2: I Call Re-Dos on that Whole "Air" Thing

-or-

Book 2: Korra Repeats the "Air"-th Grade

So...we all agree that Mako is a douchebag then? Yes? Good.

Fix him, Bryke. Or at least have Asami chew him out instead of quietly being jealous.

Good Lord, bloodbending.

Am I the only one who felt more than a bit uncomfortable about just how, well, unbalanced it seems? It seems to go against the spirit of the show when the ability can simply be used at will like that. Right now it seems like if you aren't Amon (and however he was able to resist it) or the Avatar, you're screwed.

I hope that this is resolved or explained somehow.

Holy fuck I was wrong. Amon DID 'rescue' Korra. Unbelievable!

Amon couldn't be blood bent.... unbelievable...

What an episode!

The explanation seems to be over 9000 right now. I was hoping there was some cheat, trick or method to it, but it seems to just be a power level thing.

Holy crap!
I wanna know more than ever who Amon is!

And the teaser for next weeks episode doesnt help either.

At this point, I don't see how Amon could not be a spirit of some sort. he is the only one who was ever shown to be able to resist blood bending, but I don't see how that's possible if he is human.

EDIT: Adult Sokka was great.

I would have a water layer in the suit...

Amon being Tenzin's brother makes sense since he has some waterbender blood in him. Might be the reason he can partially resist bloodbending especially since Katara was a bloodbender as well.

And with people saying he's dark-skinned...

Some preview discussion:

Finally a Bolin Solo fight. Platinum bend!

Looks like Mako is under a blood bending spell when Korra is attacked by Amon.

Could just be another smack down by Equalists that incapacitated him.

Except Amon is definitely doing a blood bending/Vader force grab in the trailer and Mako and Korra are both twisted and flinching like they are being blood bent.

I am somewhat surprised but in the back of my mind I always figured Amon was a bender.
